El brote, que se inició en febrero de 2006 y ha tardado 20 meses en ser controlado, ha afectado a 252 pacientes, de los que 101 han fallecido. En 18 casos "la muerte fue atribuible a la bacteria", según la investigación del hospital, y en el resto, pacientes ya muy graves, fue "un elemento contribuyente, pero no determinante", explica Juan Carlos Montejo, médico de medicina intensiva del 12 de Octubre.s se procedió "al cierre parcial del servicio para El Pais 11 mei 2008 desinfectar a fondo algunas zonas".

7 Acintobacter baumannii Acinetobacter is een Gram-negatieve coccobacillus ontdekt in 1911 als Micrococcus calcoaceticus 1950 werd het Acinetobacter genoemd (akineto-bacterium) Natuurlijk voorkomen in water en grond Makkelijk te kweken, maar reageert biochemisch moeizaam waardoor onderscheid met andere GNS lastig is.
