7 Smart Business Networks: general principles 1. Think in terms of customer solutions instead of products Requires a lot of information about the customer 2. Every customer gets its own (temporary) value chain for that specific order Demand networks Requires a lot of information about potential suppliers Requires a lot of coordination efforts among suppliers Use network externalities 3. Being able to quickly connect customers and suppliers Technological infrastructure through interorganizational systems: communication standards and business process standards Social infrastructure through knowledge sharing

9 Research Programme Approached late 2006 by Microsoft Extended since 2008 to include other partners (Rabobank, de Unie, Sogeti, Essent, TNT, Athlon, Ericsson, CBG, etc.) Approximately 6,500 knowledge workers participated thus far Approach: Scientifically validated perception measurement instrument (survey) Pre- and post measurements; longitudinal research Employee and managers perceptions Case studies; Main focus is how work(place) innovation contributes to improvement of the Triple Bottom Line : People (employee satisfaction, work-life balance) Profit (flexibility, productivity, innovativeness) Planet (sustainable travel and behavior) 9

15 New Worlds of Work Benchmark - Enkele Observaties (1) Analyse op data van 19 deelnemers (Februari 2012): 19 organisaties scoren relatief hoog op zelfbeschikking, informatiedelen, resultaatgerichtheid en een aantal IT werkdimensies (communicatie, toegang en digitalisering). Daarentegen wordt relatief laag gescoord op benutting en duurzaamheid van de werkplek en duurzaamheid van IT. Empowerment zelfbeschikking relateert aan werk-privé balans, (verlaging van) ziekteverzuim, en productiviteit. De support van het top management relateert aan ziekteverzuim, productiviteit en medewerker tevredenheid. De virtuele werkplek dimensies (digitalisering, toegang, communicatie en personalisatie) relateren aan productiviteit. 15
