7 Introduction to VTS standards (1) The international character of shipping operations generates the need for a common approach and universally agreed professionalstandards for VTS. The successful delivery of VTS depends upon competent and experienced personnelto discharge the responsibilities of a VTS Authority.

8 Introduction to VTS standards (2) The recruitment, selection and training of suitable personnel is a pre-requisite to the provision of professionally qualified personnel capable of contributing to safe and efficient marine operations. Such personnel will help to ensure that full and due regard is given to the diverse tasks inherent in VTS activities.

9 Introduction to VTS standards (3) The IALA and IMO recommend training requirements and certification standards for VTS personnel. These should be implemented by National Members and other appropriate Authorities to ensure that uniform standards of procedures, practices and professional standards are applied by VTS world-wide.

14 Visie op het nu en de toekomst Van verkeersbegeleiding naar vessel traffic control Het kader Landelijke structuur en organisatie van de scheepvaartverkeerdienstverlening; Landelijke uniforme ordening van scheepvaartverkeer met regionale/ lokale aanvullende vaarregels/ordeningsmaatregelen; Uitwerking van de scheepvaartverkeerdienstverlening overeenkomstig internationale VTS resoluties en richtlijnen; Certificatie/kwaliteitsborging VTS organisatie/operaties.
