1 Technische Universiteit Eindhoven Faculteit Electrical Engineering Tentamen Vehicle Networking (5AIC1) & Computer Networks (5JJ90) op woensdag 29 oktober 2014, uur Nederlands: Iedere vraag in dit tentamen is zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels gesteld. Dit tentamen bestaat uit 4 vragen. Studenten voor het tentamen Vehicle Networking (5AIC1) maken vragen 1A, 2, 3 en 4A en studenten voor het tentamen Computer Networks (5JJ90) maken vragen 1B, 2, 3 en 4B. De normering per vraag is gegeven en sommeert tot 100 punten. Tijdens het maken van dit tentamen mag u het boek Computer Networks van Peterson & Davie en afdrukken van de slides die bij het college horen gebruiken. Veel succes! English: Each problem in this exam is stated in Dutch as well as in English. The exam consists of 4 problems. Students for the Vehicle Networking (5AIC1) exam have to work on problems 1A, 2, 3 and 4A, while students for the Computer Networks (5JJ90) exam are required to work on problems 1B, 2, 3 and 4B. The valuation is given per problem and adds up to 100 points. You are allowed to use the book Computer Networks of Peterson & Davie as well as copies of the slides presented during the lectures. 2 Nederlands: opgave 1A (25 punten) (Alleen voor 5AIC1 studenten!) Zijn de volgende uitspraken waar of onwaar? Geef een korte onderbouwing van uw antwoorden. a. (4 punten) Het CAN protocol verstuurt berichten met een bericht-identificatie (message identifier) tussen zenders en ontvangers. Uitspraak: Deze techniek is ook toepasbaar op een internetwerk. b. (3 punten) In het CAN protocol is het mogelijk dat er meer dan één bericht tegelijkertijd wordt verstuurd, resulterend in gecorrumpeerde data (payload). c. (3 punten) Met hetzelfde fysieke medium kan CSMA/CR een hogere effectieve utilisatie (nuttige berichten per seconde) bereiken dan CSMA/CD. d. (5 punten) 1. CAN is composable. 2. TTCAN is composable. 3. Flexray is composable. e. (4 punten) In het Flexray protocol is het mogelijk om een maximale tijd tussen het versturen van een bericht en het ontvangen van dat bericht te berekenen. Uitspraak: Deze techniek is ook toepasbaar op een internetwerk. Noem de techniek die wordt toegepast om dit te bereiken in je korte onderbouwing. f. (2 punten) Frequency channel hopping is een technique voor het compenseren van signaalverstoringen zoals signaalverzwakking of signaalreflectie. g. (2 punten) In de IEEE LR-WPAN standaard voor lage bandbreedte draadloze communicatie, zijn zowel contention-based als contention-free mechanismen aanwezig om toegang te krijgen tot het draadloos medium. h. (2 punten) Het gebruik van een Request-To-Send / Clear-To-Send handshake protocol lost het hidden terminal problem in draadloze communicatie volledig op. 2

3 English: problem 1A (25 points) (For 5AIC1 students only!) Are the following statements true or false? Give a brief motivation of your answers. a. (4 points) The CAN protocol send messages that contain a message identifier between senders and receivers. Statement: This technique is also applicable to internetworks. b. (3 points) In the CAN protocol it is possible that more than one message is transmitted at the same time, resulting in corrupted data (payload). c. (3 points) Using the same physical medium CSMA/CR can reach a higher effective utilization (useful messages per second) than CSMA/CD. d. (5 points) 1. CAN is composable. 2. TTCAN is composable. 3. Flexray is composable. e. (4 points) In the Flexray protocol it is possible to compute the maximum time between the sending of a message and its reception. Statement: This technique is also applicable to an internetwork. Give the name of the technique in your brief motivation. f. (2 points) Frequency channel hopping is a technique to compensate signal distortion effects such as attenuation and reflections. g. (2 points) In the IEEE LR-WPAN standard for low rate wireless communication, both contention-based and contention-free mechanisms are available for accessing the wireless medium. h. (5 punten) Frames op een CSMA/CD Ethernetwerk raken nooit verloren. b. (5 punten) Alle pakketten in een IP tunnel volgen dezelfde route door het netwerk. c. (5 punten) In een token ring netwerk (802.5) wordt het store-and-forward mechanisme gebruikt om frames in de ring te laten circuleren. d. (5 punten) Wanneer een host verbonden is met een IP subnet, is het nummer van dit subnet af te leiden van het IP adres van de host. e. 5 Nederlands: opgave 2 (40 punten) Een link verbindt twee computers. Op de datalink laag draaien de computers het PAR (Positive Acknowledgement with Retransmission) protocol. Ieder data frame bevat D bits aan payload en het aantal bits dat gereserveerd is voor de header informatie is verwaarloosbaar. De round-trip propagatietijd is R seconden en de link bandbreedte is B bits per seconde. a. (5 punten) Geef een uitdrukking voor de efficiency van het protocol wanneer de link geen frames verliest en wanneer frames geen bitfouten bevatten. Neem nu aan dat een (data of acknowledgement) frame verloren gaat met kans p en dat frames geen bitfouten bevatten. Neem verder aan dat de time-out tijd van de zender T seconden bedraagt en dat de ontvanger geen timer gebruikt. b. (15 punten) Laat zien dat de gemiddelde tijd tussen het verzenden van een nieuw data frame en het ontvangen van het bijbehorende acknowledgement frame gegeven wordt door D T ( 1 q + R + ) waarbij q=(1-p) 2. B q c. (10 punten) Geef nu een algemene uitdrukking voor de efficiency van het protocol. d. (10 punten) Voor welke realistische waarde van T is de efficiency optimaal. Wat is de optimale efficiency? English: problem 2 (40 points) A link connects two distant computers. On the data link layer the computers run the PAR (Positive Acknowledgement with Retransmission) protocol. Each data frame carries D bits of payload and the number of bits reserved for the header information is negligible. The round-trip propagation delay is R seconds and the link bandwidth is B bits per seconds. a. (5 points) Give an expression of the protocol efficiency when no frames are lost on the link and when frames have no bit errors. Now assume that the probability that a (data or acknowledgement) frame is lost is p and that frames do not have bit errors. Further assume the time-out time of the sender to be T seconds and that the receiver does not use a timer. b. (15 points) Show that the average time between the sending of a new data frame and reception of the corresponding acknowledgement is given by D T ( 1 q + R + ) where q=(1-p) 2. B q c. 6 Nederlands: opgave 3 (20 punten) Beschouw een routeringstabel van een IP router. Een dergelijke tabel kan geminimaliseerd worden met betrekking tot het aantal CIDR records. Dit gebeurt op zodanige wijze dat de oorspronkelijke en de geminimaliseerde tabel equivalent zijn wat betreft hun routeringsinformatie. Een dergelijk minimalisatie levert echter geen unieke minimale tabel. a. (20 punten) Construeer een voorbeeld waaruit duidelijk blijkt dat er verschillende tabellen kunnen bestaan die equivalent zijn met de oorspronkelijke tabel en die allen een minimaal aantal records bevatten. English: problem 3 (20 points) Consider a routing table of an IP router. Such a table can be minimized with respect to the number of CIDR entries. This is done in such a way that the original table and the minimized one are equivalent with respect to their routing information. Such a minimization however does not deliver a unique minimized table. a. (20 points) Construct an example that clearly shows that different tables can exist that are equivalent to the original table and that all have a minimal number of entries. Nederlands: opgave 4A (15 punten) (Alleen voor 5AIC1 studenten!) Beschouw bovenstaande full-duplex geschakeld timed-triggered Ethernetwerk. De vierkanten representeren eindstations (zoals ECUs) en de cirkels representeren switches. De transmissietijden van time-triggered (d.w.z. synchrone) frames Frame 1 and Frame 2 zijn 10µs respectievelijk 20µs voor iedere link. Beide frames hebben een switch processing tijd van 5µs. Construeer een time-triggered schedule voor Switch 5 and Switch 6 dat collision vrije communicatie bewerkstelligt tussen sensor1 en Actuator1 en tussen sensor2 en Actuator2. Teken het bijbehorende tijdsdiagram voor alle links en switches. 6

7 English: problem 4A (15 points) (For 5AIC1 students only!) Consider the above full-duplex switched time-triggered Ethernet network. Squares indicate end stations (i.e., ECUs) and circles indicate switches. Time-triggered (i.e., synchronous) frames Frame 1 and Frame 2 have transmission times 10µs and 20µs respectively in all the links. Both frames have switch processing time of 5µs. Find a time-triggered schedule in Switch 5 and Switch 6 for collision free communication between sensor1 to Actuator1 and sensor2 to Actuator2. Draw the corresponding timing diagram for all the links and the switches. Nederlands: opgave 4B (15 punten) (Alleen voor 5JJ90 studenten!) Een bitstroom wordt met behulp van de standaard CRC methode verstuurd. We nemen aan dat wanneer we de bitstroom representeren als polynoom F(x), de bitstroom eindigt met de coëfficiënt van x 0. Het gebruikte generatorpolynoom is G(x) = x+1. a. (5 punten) Bereken de code C(x) die verstuurd wordt wanneer F(x) = x 8 +x 5 +x 3 +x. b. (10 punten) Bewijs dat een fout, waarbij precies twee bits omklappen, niet gedetecteerd wordt. English: problem 4B (15 points) (For 5JJ90 students only!) A bit stream is transmitted using the standard CRC method. We assume that when the bit stream is represented by a polynomial F(x), the bit stream ends with the coefficient of x 0. The generator polynomial used is G(x) = x+1. a. (5 points) Compute the code C(x) that is transmitted when F(x) = x 8 +x 5 +x 3 +x. b. (10 points) Prove that an error, in which exactly two bits are flipped, is not detected. 7
