De Value-at-Risk (at level α = 0.01) van een bedrijf. Opgave 3 Beschikbaar zijn een 5% en een 10% coupon bond, beide met looptijd ( maturity ) drie jaar en beide met face value 1000 Euro. De couponbetalingen vinden eens per jaar plaats. De prijs van de 5% coupon bond is 772 Euro en de prijs van de 10% coupon bond is 886 Euro. Bereken de driejaarsrente (d.w.z., de yield to maturity van een zero coupon bond met looptijd drie jaar). Opgave 4 Stel je begint een nieuwe bedrijf. Om het bedrijf te runnen (d.w.z., om dingen te huren en om bijkomende kosten te dekken, enz.) moet aan het einde van elk jaar een bedrag van B$ worden betaald. Je bedrijf heeft elk jaar een rate of return van r van elke geïnvesteerde dollar, d.w.z., als je 1$ investeert in 1

Opgave 5 Beschouw een nominale jaarlijkse rentevoet r = 12%, en een project met de volgende kasstroom: tijd Cash a) Veronderstel dat tijd is gemeten in jaren. Bereken de contante waarde en de bijbehorende annual s worth van deze kasstroom. Is het project winstgevend? b) Veronderstel dat tijd is gemeten in maanden. Bereken de contante waarde en het bijbehorende maand-equivalent van de annual s worth van deze kasstroom. Is het project winstgevend? Opgave 6 Annette heeft een nieuwe auto nodig voor haar woonwerkverkeer gedurende de eerstvolgende drie jaar. Nadat ze heeft gekozen voor een speciaal autotype is de vraag wat goedkoper is: leasen van de auto of de auto kopen. De auto kost Euro en heeft verwachte onderhoudskosten Euro per jaar (te betalen aan het begin van elk jaar). Na drie jaar kan ze de auto verkopen voor Euro. De lease-maatschappij biedt Annette de mogelijkheid de auto te leasen voor 380 Euro per maand. De (nominale) interestvoet is 10% per jaar. 1. Maak gebruik van de netto contante waarde als evaluatiecriterium om te beslissen of kopen of leasen van de auto goedkoper is voor Annette. 2. Calculate the three years interest rate (i.e., the yield to maturity of a zero coupon bond with maturity three years). Exercise 4 Suppose you start up your own business. To run it (i.e., to rent some properties and to cover some additional costs, etc.), you need to pay B$ at the end of each year. Your business brings you a rate of return of r each year from any invested dollar, i.e., if you invest 1$ in year t, you get (1 + r)$ in year t + 1. Suppose that you invest A$ to this business now and that you 3

4 reinvest the whole outcome of this business each year. a) Write down the cash flow of this business for t = 0, t = 1, and t = 2. b) Suppose that you run this business and that you find out that each year you end up with exactly A$. What is B in this case? Express your B in terms of A and r. Exercise 5 Consider a nominal annual interest rate r = 12%, and a project with the following cash flow: time Cash a) Suppose that time is given in years. Compute the present value and the corresponding annual s worth of this cash flow. Is the project profitable? b) Suppose that time is given in months. Compute the present value and the corresponding month equivalent of the annual s worth of this cash flow. Is the project profitable? Exercise 6 Annette needs a new car to commute to her work during the next three years. After she decided for a special car type the question is whether leasing or purchasing is cheaper for her. The car costs 15, 000 Euro and is expected to have maintenance costs of 1, 000 Euro per year (payable at the beginning of each year). After three years she can sell the car for 8, 000 Euro. The leasing company made Annette an offer to lease the car for 380 Euro per month. The (nominal) interest rate is 10% per year. 1. Using the net present value evaluation criterion, decide if purchasing or leasing the car is cheaper for Annette. 2. For which monthly leasing payment would Annette be indifferent between purchasing and leasing (from a present value evaluation point of view)? 4
