1 Martijn Hooning COLLEGE ANALYSE OPDRACHT 1 9 september 2009 Hierbij een paar vragen over twee stukken die we deze week en vorige week hebben besproken: Mondnacht van Schumann, en het eerste deel van het strijkkwartet in d klein van Mozart. Daarnaast een paar vragen over het tweede deel van de pianosonate in G groot KV 283 van Mozart. De partituur daarvan zie je hieronder. De andeer partituren heb je in de les ontvangen. Mocht je ooit partituren zoeken: dit is een erg handige site: Let wel: de uitgaves zijn meestal oud, dus niet altijd even betrouwbaar... Over Mondnacht van Schumann: Beschrijf in het kort welke rol herhaling in dit lied speelt, en betrek daarbij ook de betekenis van de tekst. Een aantal muzikale zinnen (en tegelijk: zinnen in de tekst) eindigt met een half slot; een van de zinnen zou met een heel slot kunnen eindigen als Schumann dit niet op het laatste moment had vermeden. Geef aan waar deze afsluitingen staan, en welke functie ze volgens jou hebben in verband met de tekst. 2. Over Mozart, strijkkwartet in d klein: De eerste 8 maten van dit stuk kunnen worden beschouwd als een thema (namelijk: het eerste thema van dit deel). Geef een analyse van de structuur van dit thema (dus: welke maten horen bij elkaar, hoe is de opbouw, welke afsluiting staat waar). Maak hierbij gebruik van een maatschema ( dus iets als: ( ) e.d. ). Waar in dit stuk staat een volgend thema? In welke toonsoort? 3. Over Mozart, pianosonate in G (tweede deel, in C groot) De eerste 4 maten van dit deel (het hoofdthema) kunnen we periode noemen. Leg uit waarom. Welke aflsuitingen staan in maat 6, resp. maat 8? In welke toonsoort? c. Maak een alnalyse van de structuur van de maten 9-14, met een maatschem In hoeverre is hier sprake van een periode, denk je? d. Hoe komt het dat de derde tel van maat 12 geen echte afsluiting vormt?

2 Martijn Hooning COLLEGE ANALYSE ASSIGNMENT 1 September 9 (23) 2009 Below a few questions about the pieces I spoke about in the first lesson: Mondnacht by Schumann, and the first movement of Mozart's the String Quartet in D minor. Apart from that a few questions about the second movement of Mozart's Piano Sonata in G major, K 283. The score I added below, the other scores I handed out in the first class. In case you are looking for scores: this is a very nice website: Keep in mind that most editions are old, so may contain mistakes, printing errors etc. The sound files you will get in seperate mails (as they are more then 10MB, which e.g. Hotmail will not accept..) Please listen to a recording when answering the questions or play the pieces yourself! 1. About Schumann's Mondnacht: Give a short description of the role repetition is playing in this song, and describe the meaning of the text and its connection with the repetitions. Some musical phrases (and: sentences in the poem) end on a semicadence; one of the could have closed on a full cadence (authentic cadence) but the composer is avoiding the full cadence in the last moment. Show where these cadences stand, and describe their function related to the text. 2. About Mozart's String Quartet in D minor: The first 8 bars of this piece can be called a theme (or, more precise: the first theme of this movement). Provide an analysis of the structure of this theme (Meaning: describe which bars belong together,what is the overall structure). Use a bar schedule in your description (something like ( ) etc. ). Where in this movement stands a second theme? In which key? 3. About Mozart's Piano Sonata in G major (second movement, in C major): The first 4 bars of this movement (the main theme) we may call a period. Explain why. Which cadences we find in bar 6, and in bar 8? In which key(s)? e c. Provide an analysis of the structure of bars 9-14, and add a bar schedule. Is it possible to call these bars a periode, in your opinion? d. What is the reason we do not hear the third beat of bar 12 as a 'real' close?
