1 BIOGRAFIE Christa Christina van Bunderen werd geboren op 11 mei 1982 in de Wieringermeer, Nederland. Na het afronden van het lager onderwijs op De Regenboogschool te Slootdorp, continueerde zij haar opleiding aan de Rijks Scholengemeenschap Wiringherlant te Wieringerwerf waar zij haar diploma voor het atheneum behaalde in Op een leeftijd van 18 jaar verhuisde zij naar Amsterdam om met de opleiding Geneeskunde te starten aan het VU medisch centrum (VUmc). In 2007 rondde zij deze opleiding succesvol af met een extra aantekening voor het afstudeerprofiel Endocrinologie, Voortplanting en Metabolisme. Gedurende haar opleiding Geneeskunde was zij onder andere actief als bestuurslid in de medische faculteitsvereniging (MFVU) in 2003 en ging tweemaal voor haar studie naar het buitenland. Onder supervisie van prof. dr. H.A. Delemarrevan de Waal deed ze in 2004 enkele maanden onderzoek naar het metabool syndroom in zwarte vrouwen aan de universiteit van Limpopo in Sovenga, Zuid-Afrika. In 2006 ging ze voor het co-assistentschap tropengeneeskunde naar het St. Walburg s ziekenhuis in Nyangao, Tanzania. Na haar afstuderen in 2007 werkte zij 17 maanden als arts-assistent niet-in-opleiding in het Kennemer Gasthuis (huidig Spaarne Gasthuis) te Haarlem. Januari 2009 startte zij met haar promotietraject op de afdeling Interne Geneeskunde, sectie Endocrinologie van het VUmc onder begeleiding van prof. dr. M.L. Drent en prof. dr. P. Lips. Gedurende haar promotietraject was zij actief als bestuurslid van de promovendivereniging van de Vrije Universiteit en VUmc (ProVU) in In 2012 startte zij haar opleiding tot internist in het Spaarne Ziekenhuis (huidig Spaarne Gasthuis) te Hoofddorp (opleider: dr. A.B. Arntzenius) wat zij combineerde met het voortzetten van haar onderzoeksproject in het kader van een AGIKO stipendium van ZonMw. Dit heeft geresulteerd in dit proefschrift. In 2016 zal zij haar opleiding tot internist voortzetten aan het VUmc (opleider: prof. dr. Y.M. Smulders). 246

2 BIOGRAPHY Christa Christina van Bunderen was born May 11 th 1982 in the Wieringermeer, The Netherlands. After finishing primary school at De Regenboog in Slootdorp, she went on to the R.S.G. Wiringherlant in Wieringerwerf where she graduated in At the age of 18, she moved to Amsterdam to start her medical training at the VU University Medical Center (VUmc). She obtained her MD including a certificate for the profile Endocrinology, Human reproduction and Metabolism in During medical training she was active as a board member in the medical student association (MFVU) in 2003, and went abroad twice. Under supervision of prof.dr. H.A. Delemarre-van de Waal she performed a research project at the University of Limpopo in Sovenga, South Africa, on the metabolic syndrome in black women in Subsequently, she went to St. Walburg s Hospital in Nyangao, Tanzania for a clinical internship in After graduating she worked for 17 months at the Kennemer Hospital (present Spaarne Gasthuis) in Haarlem as a resident (not in training) in Internal Medicine. From January 2009 she worked at the VUmc on her PhD project at the department Internal Medicine, section Endocrinology, under supervision of prof. dr. M.L. Drent and prof. dr. P. Lips. During her PhD project she was active as board member in the PhD organisation of the VU University and VUmc (ProVU) in January 2012 she started her residency (in training) in Internal Medicine at the Spaarne Hospital (present Spaarne Gasthuis), Hoofddorp (supervisor: dr. A.B. Arntzenius), whilst continuing her research at the VUmc, as AGIKO (ZonMw stipendium). This has resulted in the present thesis.
