1 The Playful Dialogue Play and games are able to create interesting dialogues and relationships with visitors. Most museums therefore use some kind of games and (role) play. During a Research & Design project, done by the HKU (Utrecht University of the Arts) with the Dutch Open Air Museum (Arnhem), we discovered that the powers of using games and play largely depends on the organization and the mindset of the museum and its employees. We created an integrated game design, in which we mix content, gameplay, analogue and digital media and roles of the visitor, volunteers and employees. With this integrated design we want to research if and how we can let play become a part of the core organization of the museum. About Hanne Marckmann designs and researches playful alternatives to contemporary challenges in education, training, cultural heritage, organizational change and (social) innovation. She works freelance and as an educator and researcher at the HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht, Play Design & Development).

43 It s fun to actively seek out contact with visitors more often. Challenges offered concrete results, feedback of our work - felt good! Better contact with colleagues also through digital means ( ). Somtimes hard and confronting to have to work together so intensly. Lack of time and the novelty of the concept irritated some people. No time/not in the mood to check the Guild V website when at home. Some results
