1 Domaine Arnaud Ente, Meursault Primeur-aanbod 2009 jaargang Bolomey Wijnimport werd in 2009 importeur van de exclusieve wijnen van Arnaud Ente. Ente behoort tot een select groepje top- Meursault producenten en het is een voorrecht om deze zeldzame wijn in Nederland te vertegenwoordigen. De wijnen van dit kleine domein zijn te vinden in sterrenrestaurants overal ter wereld, en in beperkte mate ook in Nederland. In de 1er cru wijngaard La Goutte d Or met Arnaud Ente (r). Op de achtergrond Meursault. De Engelse Daily Telegraph publiceerde onlangs een artikel over de wijnkelder van actrice Emma Thompson. Een van de wijnen die in haar desert island kelder niet mocht ontbreken bleek de Meursault van Arnaud Ente. Dat antwoord zal je in Nederland niet zo snel krijgen: dankzij de gezaghebbende importeurs Berry Bros. and Rudd en Kermit Lynch geniet de wijn van Ente dan ook meer bekendheid in Engeland en Amerika dan hier. In Nederland is Ente zonder meer een zeldzame verschijning.

2 Historie De grote namen in Meursault Comtes- Lafon, Roulot, Coche- Dury etc. moeten de jonge Arnaud geïnspireerd hebben. Na ervaring te hebben opgedaan bij Coche- Dury begon Ente in 1992 zelf wijn te maken, van de wijngaarden die hem ter beschikking waren gesteld door zijn schoonvader. Zijn streven om de grote jongens te evenaren, en de perfectionistische werkhouding die daaruit voortvloeide, maakten dat hij al snel de aandacht op zich vestigde. Arnaud behoort tot de tweede generatie wijnmakers in zijn familie. Zijn Noordfranse vader trouwde met de dochter van een wijnnaker uit Puligny- Montrachet. Arnaud s broer Benoit is degene die op dit moment de wijn maakt in Puligny; Arnaud zelf (1966) heeft zich sinds de begin jaren 90 gevestigd in het naburige Meursault. En net als zijn vader trouwde hij de dochter van een wijnmaker, in dit geval van een wijnmaker uit Meursault: Philippe Thévenot. Stijl Naarmate de jaren vorderden ging Arnaud meer op zoek naar finesse en precisie, naar een meer mineralige en pure stijl. Hij heeft dit vooral bewerkstelligd door vroeger te plukken, en door het gebruik van nieuw hout te beperken. Dat doet hij bijvoorbeeld ook door voor sommige cuvées zogenaamde demi- muids te gebruiken, houten 600 liter vaten. Het doel van Ente is kort samengevat om de potentie van elk van zijn percelen volledig waar te maken, en daarvan wijnen te maken met een grande pureté aromatique en een optimaal evenwicht. Werkwijze Het perfectionisme van Ente laat zich aflezen aan het aantal werkers in de wijngaard: vier personen (waaronder zijn vrouw Marie- Odile) voor iets meer dan vier hectaren gedurende het gehele groeiseizoen. Zoveel mankracht per plant kom je maar zeer zelden tegen. Enfin, Ente neemt het credo veel werk verrichten in de wijngaard serieus. Het resultaat: de druiven die geoogst worden zijn van zeer hoge kwaliteit, en dat is de belangrijkste voorwaarde voor het kunnen voortbrengen van waarlijk grote wijn. De gehanteerde rendementen zijn laag. Arnaud Ente werkt, bijna vanzelfsprekend, zo natuurlijk mogelijk. Zo wordt de wijngaard geploegd en wordt er geen kunstmest gebruikt. En voor de vergisting worden geen kunstmatige gisten gebruikt. Na ongeveer 18 maanden elevage (eerst op hout waarvan een kwart nieuw, dan op RVS) wordt de wijn ongefilterd op fles gebracht. 3 De productie is klein, en de wijn is gezocht. Ente is onder meer te vinden in een groot aantal top- restaurants, waaronder La Bastide Saint- Antoine (Grasse), Bernard Loiseau (Seaulieu), Petit Nice (Marseille), Michel Bras (Japan), Alain Chapel (Mionnay), Daniel Boulud (New York), Manoir d'hasting (Tokyo), La Rotonde (Charbonnières Les Bains), Hameau Albert 1er (Chamonix), L'oasis (La Napoule), Enoteca Pinchiorri (Florence), Gambero Rosso Pierangelini (San Vincenzo) en in Nederland via Bolomey Wijnimport onder meer bij Ron Blaauw (Ouderkerk aan de Amstel), Le Garage (Amsterdam) en De Bokkedoorns (Overveen). Het grootste deel van Ente s productie wordt geëxporteerd (80%), en daarvan gaat het meeste naar Amerika (Kermit Lynch) en Engeland (Berry Bros. and Rudd). Enkele citaten uit de pers Robert Parker Arnaud Ente s Chardonnays (indeed, even his Aligoté) display concentration yet refinement and an almost lacy detail, along with nearly perfect pitch when it comes to balance and the judicious use of new wood and lees. Farming organically and bottling unfiltered and at a leisurely pace, Ente has taken his wines from their first estate- bottling in 1994 to international note at the onset of the new century, and it is clear that he has no intention of resting on his laurels. Clive Coates MW The youthful, attractive- looking Arnaud Ente is one of the best growers to have come to the fore in the last decade. He is exigent about keeping the crop down and meticulous about how he makes his wine no fining, no filtration, not even any racking for the red wines, and bâtonnage only when necessary for the whites which are bottled after 12 to 18 months. Meursault Clos des Ambres 2008: volgens Bettane & Desseauve de allerbeste 2008 Meursault Villages van dat jaar. De cuvées In juni dit jaar proefden we alle 2009 s op het domein. Een groot jaar voor de Bourgogne, en dat geldt zeker ook voor de wijnen van Arnaud Ente. Zoals we direct na het bezoek via Twitter lieten weten: deze wijnen vormen a mouth- watering mix between richness and freshness. Dit is witte Bourgogne op het allerhoogste niveau, en de 2009 s zijn misschien wel de mooiste wijnen die Ente ooit heeft laten zien. Altijd opvallend is het niveau van de kleinere cuvées. Wie denkt dat de Bourogne Aligoté boers zal zijn zal versteld staan van de fijnheid, elegantie en intensiteit van deze oude- stokken- cuvée.

4 Eveneens zeer verrassend is de Bourgogne blanc, die bij een blindproeverij al snel voor een Meursault zal worden aangezien, en sterker: met niet al te veel moeite vele Meursaults achter zich zal laten. De herkomst van deze Bourgogne: Puligny- Montrachet (de stokken van 9 en 15 jaar) en Meursault (de stokken van 38 jaar). Ente s belangrijkste wijngaard is de village wijngaard En l Ormeau die aan de onderkant van het dorp ligt. Het grootste deel van de Meursault village komt van dit perceel, aangevuld met 40% van het hoog gelegen Casse- Tête, een ruige wijngaard met een kale, stenige grond, zonder zelfs de gangbare humus- toplaag. Gaan we terug naar de laag gelegen En l Ormeau dan treffen we ook een deel oude tot zeer oude stokken aan. De Clos des Ambres wordt gemaakt van stokken die de leeftijd van 60 jaar beginnen te naderen. Deze cuvée is vol en zeer rijk, met een lange afdronk. Het gedeelte met zeer oude stokken (110 tot 130 jaar) is miniem en de druiven hiervan worden apart gevinifieerd tot de zeldzame cuvée La Sève du Clos. Zeer intens en kruidig, dit is ronduit indrukwekkend. In het verlengde van de 1er cru s band vinden we de wijngaard Les Petits Charrons. Een village wijngaard, officieus ook wel aangeduid als een 2 e cru. Jasper Morris MW noemt de Petits Charrons van Ente als meest boeiende exponent van dit terroir. Misschien is dit wel de meest verfijnde, feminiene Meursault die Ente produceert. De laatste in de rij Meursaults is de 1er cru La Goutte d Or. Deze wijn is afkomstig van Ente s beste terroir, en wordt met het ouder worden van de stokken steeds beter. De Goutte d Or is wat vetter en zeer verleidelijk. Maar ook in deze cuvée valt meteen de prachtige frisheid op. Ronduit groots is de enige Puligny- Montrachet in de rij, de 1er cru Les Referts. Een wijn om stil van te worden. Dat begint bij de aanzet, en houdt aan tot in de eindeloze afdronk. Het is bijzonder hoe Ente het voor elkaar krijgt al zijn wijnen zo schitterend harmonieus te laten zijn, zo rijk geschakeerd. Ieder facet krijgt z n minute of fame, z n kans om te schitteren in het glas. Tenslotte is er de rode Volnay 1er cru Les Santenots du Milieu. Hoewel deze wijngaard nog net binnen de appellation Meursault ligt wordt de wijn verkocht onder de naam van het aangrenzende Volnay. Een energieke, pittig- ranke wijn met een aangename mineraliteit. Krijt staat er in mijn proefnotitie. Een unieke verschijning deze zeer zeldzame rode Bourgogne.

5 Primeur- aanbod Arnaud Ente 2009 september 2011 Bourgogne Aligoté ,90 primeur 19,50 0,35 hectare, 70+ jaar oude stokken op zand & klei, expositie noord/zuid. Steven Tanzer: This very old vine example of Aligoté is my nomination for the finest made in all of Burgundy these days, as I have to give it a slight nod over the beautiful version also produced by Jean- François Coche. The 2009 is a lovely bottle, as it offers up a complex and vibrant nose of lemon, apple, a gentle touch of leesiness and a beautiful base of minerality. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex and snappy, with the generosity of 2009 evident on the attack, but with outstanding backend grip and cut. A really superb bottle of Aligoté. Bourgogne blanc ,50 primeur 28,50 0,53 hectare 9, 15 & 38 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: The 2009 Bourgogne blanc is another superb example of the vintage (this too is about as fine an example as one can find anywhere in Burgundy at this level). The superb bouquet offers up a pure and refined mélange of pears, delicious apples, lemon zest, chalky soil tones, spring flowers and perhaps just a touch of leesiness. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and wonderfully complex for its appellation, with a fine core of fruit, crisp acids and excellent length and grip on the vibrant finish. Really a stellar bottle of Bourgogne blanc...90.

6 Meursault ,50 primeur 49,50 0,86 hectare, 10 tot 58 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, En l'ormeau 60% & Casse- Tête 40%, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: The 2009 Meursault AC from Monsieur Ente is another really lovely bottle in the making, which delivers a superb aromatic blend of apple, tangerine, almonds, complex minerality and a floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and very racy, with fine mid- palate depth, lovely focus and superb length and grip on the classy finish. Fine juice Meursault "Clos des Ambres" ,50 primeur 65,00 0,73 hectare, 58 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, speciaal deel van En l'ormeau, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: The 2009 Clos des Ambres is one of the few 2009s that I tasted on this trip which showed off the same crystalline profile that was evident in so many top white wines in the 2008 vintage. The very complex bouquet is excellent, as it offers up scents of apple, lemon, orange, great minerality, a touch of iodine, hints of the nuttiness to come, vanillin oak and a topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is full- bodied, crisp and very minerally on the backend, with a fine core, snappy acids and great focus and cut on the finish. Just a beautiful bottle of Meursault...93 Meursault "Les Petits Charrons" ,00 primeur 92,50 0,34 hectare, 19 tot 54 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: Petits Charrons is one of the warmer microclimates in Meursault and the 2009 version from Arnaud Ente is the ripest wine in the cellar this year, weighing in at 13.3 percent alcohol. But the wine is most emphatically not overripe by any stretch of the imagination, just classic Meursault. The very lovely nose offers up scents of apple, oranges, a bit of passion fruit, hazelnuts, iodine, lovely minerality and citrus zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied and a touch broader on the attack than the Clos des Ambres, with a fine core, impeccable focus and balance and great backend cut and minerality. Just a stellar bottle...93 Meursault 1er cru "La Goutte d'or" ,50 primeur 105,00 0,22 hectare, 19 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: The 2009 Ente Goutte d Or really shows off the elegance of this vintage at the best addresses, as the wine offers up a very refined, complex and floral profile on both the nose and palate. The beautiful bouquet is a blend of apple, oranges, iodine, gentle notes of hazelnuts, complex soil tones, a touch of vanillin oak and a pungent topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is full- bodied, pure and very classy, with great mid- palate depth, bright acids and simply superb length and grip on the complex and transparent finish. A stunning wine

7 Meursault "La Sève du Clos" Vieilles Vignes ,50 primeur 107,50 max. 2 flessen per klant 0,32 hectare, >100 tot 130 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, speciaal deel van En l'ormeau, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: And the roughly one hundred year- old vines in En l Ormeau, how have they performed in 2009? In a word- brilliantly! The stunning and quite youthful nose of the 2009 Sève de Clos soars from the glass in a mélange of apple, passion fruit, iodine, hazelnuts, kaleidoscopic minerality orange zest and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied and quite reserved in profile, with a tremendous core of fruit, impeccable balance, great focus and cut and an absolute mineral bath on the very long finish. This is a great, great bottle of Meursault that can compete favorably with any of the top premier crus in the village! Magical juice Puligny- Montrachet 1er cru "Les Referts" ,50 primeur 107,50 uitverkocht 0,22 hectare, 44 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, expositie oost/west. Steven Tanzer: There are only three piéces of Referts in the Ente cellars, and so the wine was raised one- third each in one, two and three year- old barrels. This is really a beautiful example of Referts, as it offers up a complex and very floral nose of apple blossoms, acacia, white peaches, lemon zest, a very delicate touch of leesiness, chalky soil tones and a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied, very, very pure and transparent, with a lovely core of fruit, great focus, zesty acids and stunning length and grip on the very youthful finish. A great bottle of Puligny Volnay 1er cru "Les Santenots du Milieu" ,50 primeur 67,50 0,39 hectare, 17 jaar oude stokken op klei & kalk, expositie oost/west. John Gilman: The 2009 Ente Santenots is a beautifully elegant rendition of the vintage. The nose is deep, refined and pure, as it delivers scents of red and black cherries, woodsmoke,gamebird, fresh herb tones, lovely minerality and just a touch of oak. (There were a few vintages back in the early years of this decade where I thought this wine was raised in too much new wood, as Monsieur Ente was experimenting with a very low sulfur regimen for the Santenots and needed as clean a vessel as possible for the elevage, but happily those days are now in the past and this wine is really starting to come into its own.) On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied, nicely struc- tured and beautifully balanced, with a sappy core of pure fruit, fine acids and just a bit of backend tannin to resolve before this wine starts its period of primetime drinking.
