Name Dr. ir. R.P. (Ruud) Bartholomeus Dr R.P. (Ruud) Bartholomeus MSc Hydrologist ruud.bartholomeus@kwrwater.nl +31 30 606 95 30 Profile Ruud Bartholomeus studied Land and Water Management at Hogeschool Larenstein and Hydrology and Water Quality, with a specialisation in Soil Physics, Agrohydrology and Groundwater Management, at Wageningen University. After his graduation (Cum Laude), he started his PhD research at the department of Systems Ecology at the Institute of Ecological Science of the VU University Amsterdam and at KWR Watercycle Research Institute. During his PhD research, he developed process-based relationships between water, oxygen and vegetation, with a focus on the interacting physical and physiological processes in the soilplant-atmosphere system. This research was part of a large project on the development of a model to predict the vegetation composition in future climatic conditions. He won the Hydrology Prize for the years 2007 to 2009 of the Netherlands Hydrological Society for the best publication entitled Critical soil conditions for oxygen stress to plant roots: Substituting the Feddes-function by a process-based model. He now works as scientific researcher at KWR Watercycle Research Institute, amongst others, on a climate-proof evapotranspiration procedure for groundwater models, taking into account the feedback mechanisms of the vegetation to climate change, and on methods to quantify the effect of too little or too much water on agricultural crops. Specialties: hydrology, ecology, ecohydrology, agrohydrology, crop damage, drought stress, oxygen stress, climate change, unsaturated zone modeling, soil-water-plant-atmosphere interactions, actual evapotranspiration, groundwater recharge, plant physiology Education 2005-2009; PhD. VU University Amsterdam and KWR Watercycle Research Institute; thesis: Moisture Matters; Climate-proof and process-based relationships between water, oxygen and vegetation (graduation 26-01-2010) 2003-2005; MSc.
