3 About the author Bas Geboers was born on December 3th 1989 in Geldrop, the Netherlands. He grew up in Asten. He received his VWO pre-university degree from the Varendonck College in 2008, after which he went to study Psychology at the Maastricht University. He obtained his Bachelor s degree in 2011 and his Master s degree in Health and Social Psychology (cum laude) in His Master s thesis focused on the influence that celebrities exert on other people. Bas started his PhD research in 2013 at the Department of Health Sciences at the University Medical Center Groningen. He conducted most of his research in the framework of the IROHLA project, which focused on improving the health literacy outcomes of the ageing population in Europe by developing evidence-based guidelines for policy and practice. During his PhD project, Bas followed many courses and performed various educational tasks. He was also an active member of the PhD council of research institute SHARE and of the educational committees of research institute SHARE and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences. In 2014, he was involved in the organization of the SHARE Fall Meeting, an annual conference for members of research institute SHARE. 178

4 Over de auteur Bas Geboers werd geboren in Geldrop op 3 december Hij groeide op in Asten. In 2008 behaalde hij zijn VWO-diploma aan het Varendonck College. Vervolgens begon hij zijn studie Psychologie aan de Universiteit Maastricht. Zijn bachelordiploma behaalde hij in Zijn masterdiploma in Health and Social Psychology behaalde hij cum laude in Zijn Masterthese ging over de invloeden die beroemdheden uitoefenen op andere mensen. In 2013 begon Bas aan zijn promotieonderzoek op de afdeling Gezondheidswetenschappen van het Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen. Zijn onderzoek vond grotendeels plaats in het kader van het IROHLA project, hetgeen zich richtte op het verbeteren van de gezondheidsvaardigheden van de vergrijzende populatie in Europa middels het opstellen van evidence-based richtlijnen voor het beleid en de praktijk. Gedurende zijn promotietraject volgde Bas vele cursussen en verrichtte hij verschillende onderwijstaken. Tevens was hij actief lid van de PhD council van onderzoeksinstituut SHARE en van de opleidingscommissies van onderzoeksinstituut SHARE en de Graduate School of Medical Sciences. In 2014 was hij betrokken bij de organisatie van de SHARE Fall Meeting, een jaarlijkse conferentie voor leden van onderzoeksinstituut SHARE. 179
