3 Aerohive en switches Wat is een switch? Een switch is een apparaat in de infrastructuur van computernetwerken. Een computernetwerk is een systeem voor communicatie tussen twee of meer computers. De communicatie verloopt via netwerkkabels of via een draadloos netwerk. Ook kunnen switches stroomtoevoer via het ethernet (PoE) verzorgen. Wie heeft er switches nodig? Iedere klant met een computer netwerk heeft de behoefte aan een switch of maakt als gebruik van dit netwerk apparaat. Switches zijn van essentieel belang in een netwerk, of het nu een bekabeld of draadloos netwerk betreft. Waarom verkoopt Aerohive switches? Netwerken worden gevormd met bekabelde en draadloze apparaten. Access Points zijn nodig om draadloze connectiviteit te verkrijgen. Switches zijn nodig om bekabelde connectiviteit te verkrijgen. WiFi is afhankelijk van een bekabelde backbone, zowel qua functionaliteit als ook voor de stroomtoevoer. Wat is de doelgroep? Indien een klant geïnteresseerd is in WiFi, zal er ook interesse voor switches zijn. Onafhenkelijk van de grootte of bedrijfsvoering van de klant. Met Aerohive kan je bekabelde en draadloze netwerkinfrastructuren beheren vanuit één interface. Het platform is ook Cloud-Based beschikbaar, het beheer is locatie onafhankelijk. Wat zijn de primaire functies van een switch? Koppelen van bekabelde apparaten aan een computernetwerk Bekabelde backbone voor Access Points Beschikbaar voor zowel Local Aera Networks (LAN) met traditionele als glasvezelbekabeling Stroomtoevoer ten behoeve van Power over Ethernet (PoE) netwerkcomponenten als Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telefoons als Access Points. Zonder de switch kunnen deze componenten niet functioneren en zelf geen connectie met het netwerk maken. Voorzien in verschillende beveiligings-, verkeers- en routeerfuncties om zo veilig en efficiënt mogelijk informatie over het bekabelde netwerk te versturen. De nieuwe switches zij Enterpise-Class apparaten en ondersteunen supersnelle, line-rate switchingprestaties en geavanceerde Layer 2-3 eigenschappen, de apparaten zijn schaalbaar, voorzien in IPv6, QoS statische routering en meer. Alle Aerohiove switches ondersteunen Power over Ethernet+ (PoE)/802.3 op elke ethernetpoort. Het assortiment voorziet in SFP/SFP+ modules. Switches kunnen met elkaar verbonden worden en glasvezelconnecties tot 40 Gbps zijn mogelijk. Mix & Match, of het nu een 8 of 48 ports switch is, alle apparaten worden beheerd vanuit één interface; de HiveManager. Zéér eennvoudige configuratie, geen engineer benodigd bij de installatie. 6 Aerohive eigenschappen Line-rate switching Every port can be used on the switch at full speed simultaneously. For example, a switch with 48, 1Gbps ports operates at 48Gbps. Non line-rate switches struggle to operate at full capacity. All new Aerohive switches operate at line-rate speeds. VLAN s Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) enables traffic segmentation by logically separating data despite traversing the same cabling. This prevents certain users accessing unauthorised parts of a network. VLANs are also used to improve network performance and manageability. All new Aerohive switches support granular VLAN configuration. Power over Ethernet / Power over Ethernet+ Power over Ethernet (PoE) enables the switch to power devices over the same cable that provides data. This cuts down on cabling and improves installation flexibility. PoE-enabled devices include APs, VoIP phones and IP cameras to name a few. There are two major considerations when discussing PoE: Supported PoE standard Does the switch support 802.3af (15.4W per port) and/or 802.3at (30W per port). PoE Power Budget The total, aggregate power output that can be sent over PoE. For example, a switch supporting 10x 802.3af ports (15.4W) totals 154W. The power budget of the switch may be 100W, meaning not every port can be used for PoE simultaneously before the power budget of the switch depletes. All new Aerohive switches support PoE+ across every Ethernet port (non-uplink ports). Layer 3 Features Switches primarily operate at layer 2, enabling network connectivity within a local area network (LAN). Some switches support layer 3 functionality allowing them to operate across LANs, behaving somewhat like a router. All new Aerohive switches have a large suite of Layer 2 features. Additionality, Layer 3 features such as static routing are also supported. Pagina 6 van 8

7 Aerohive eigenschappen QoS QoS can prioritize certain traffic over other traffic. For example, voice traffic should always be served before other forms of traffic guaranteeing an acceptable quality of experience (QoE). All new Aerohive switches support granular QoS mechanisms. SFP/SFP+ Small Form Factor (SFP) modules facilitate the use of cables that are non-standard Ethernet. For example, if a customer wishes to link switches together via faster, more efficient Fibre optical cables, these will plug into an SFP module. Switches typically have an empty SFP socket. To connect a fibre optic (or other) cable into this socket, the customer will first need to purchase an SFP module. Aerohive s SR2224P supports 4x SFP modules (1Gbps). The SR2324P and SR2348P support 4x SFP+ modules (10Gbps). Link Aggregation Link aggregation enables the aggregation of multiple physical ports to function as a single port. In practice, this means you can plug 2 cables into 2 separate ports and aggregate them to behave as a single, logical port which functions as if it were singular greater throughput. All new Aerohive switches support link aggregation. Port/MAC-based security Port security and MAC-based security works by an IT administrator defining the unique, physical MAC addresses of only devices they wish to access a switch or switch port. Access is prevented if a device with an unknown MAC address is plugged in. This prevents unauthorised devices from accessing the wired infrastructure. All new Aerohive switches support granular MAC-based security options. Stacking Stacking switches provides the means for multiple physical switches to be linked together as single logical unit. The logical switch can then operate and be managed as a single unit. For example, multiple switches will share a single IP address and configuration can be updated across multiple switches simultaneously. The SR2324P and SR2348P are stacking-ready. Pagina 7 van 8

8 Aerohive eigenschappen Management Options Switches can typically be managed in the following ways: Physically Plug a cable directly into the switch console port and access the command line interface (CLI) of the device. Over IP SSH/Telnet to the device across a network and access either the CLI or web- based graphical user interface (GUI). Unified NMS A network management system (NMS) allows for multiple switches to be managed from a single, unified management platform. All new Aerohive switches can be managed via console, IP and using HiveManager. HiveManager enables the unified management of all connected switches and APs. LLDP Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is a vendor-neutral protocol enabling devices on a local network to advertise their identity. This enables automated discovery and configuration of devices such as VoIP phones. All new Aerohive switches support LLDP functionality. IPv6 Most computers in the world communicate using computer-based addressing scheme called IPv4. IPv6 is easier to configure, provides more flexibility and is a much more efficient protocol.
