2 Doelstellingen van het project De doelstellingen van het project zijn : Het creëren van duurzame toegang tot veilige en adequate toilet- en watervoorzieningen op scholen in Noord Ghana; Het verbeteren van de hygiënische praktijk op alle scholen en hun omringende gemeenschappen Het verzekeren van lange termijn duurzaamheid van de toilet- en watervoorzieningen.

3 Project activiteiten Het project heeft scholen geholpen met: Het realiseren van adequate toilet- en watervoorzieningen; Training van school management comités in planning en beheer van de faciliteiten; Het opzetten, trainen en coachen van schoolgezondheidsclubs, bestaande uit leerlingen die als peer educators functioneren voor andere leerlingen; Voorziening van faciliteiten voor het handenwassen; Gezondheidseducatie in de omringende gemeenschappen.

4 Opbrengst WvW biedt toekomst voor kinderen op scholen in Ghana Initiatief van Rotaryclubs uit District Midden Nederland Samenwerking met Football For Water Simavi, KNVB, Ghana: New Energy Ondersteund door Aqua For All en AKVO Project Plan in 3 fases: - Fase 1 (2013) - 3 scholen appr 1000 children - Fase 2 ( 2014) - 10 scholen appr 3000 children - Fase 3 (2015) - 11 scholen appr 4000 children

5 Ondersteuning door het World Coaches programma van de KNVB. Promotie door bekende voetballers Voetbalveldjes van de scholen worden opgeknapt, leraren en lokale leiders opgeleid tot World Coaches. Training van schoolvoetbalelftallen (van jongens en van meisjes), Organiseren van interscholaire voetbalcompetities. In de coaching van de elftallen gaan (voetbal-)spel en gedragsverandering op het gebied van hygiëne, gezondheid, respect en weerbaarheid hand in hand.

6 Wat is Wandelen voor Water? Wandelen voor Water is een kindergerichte campagne die elk jaar plaatsvindt in de week rondom de VN World Water Day, op 22 maart. Kinderen in de leeftijd van 10 tot 13 jaar (groep 7 & 8) krijgen les over het belang van schoon water. Vrienden en familie sponsoren de kinderen die 6 kilometer wandelen met 6 liter water in een rugzak (dit is de gemiddelde afstand die vrouwen en kinderen in ontwikkelingslanden moeten afleggen om water te halen). Het ingezamelde geld wordt besteed aan zorgvuldig geselecteerde water- en sanitatieprojecten voor arme gemeenschappen in ontwikkelingslanden. In 2014

7 Rondom wereld waterdag in Maart lopen ieder jaar hebben zo n 500 scholen met Nederlandse kinderen over het hele land. In 2015 is er ongeveer 1,3 miljoen ingezameld voor water projecten in Afrika en Azië.

Yin lives 1 km from the school and uses the bike to go to school. I want to be the future, I want to become a soldier to safe the poor life and being strong. Therfore I have to do good at school. I used to wash my hands, but not always. Now I am always washing my hands. I learned at school that hand washing is good. I discussed it at home, now my parents and brother are also washing their hands more often.

I want to be a nurse in the future, I think I will like it. Rafia walks to school every day. She likes to go to school. The teachers have authority and teach hand washing and are practising it themselves. Before the project we were eating without washing our hands. Now we wash our hands before we touch the food. The hand washing helps us not to get sick. From class I learned the importance of washing my hands. Now my family and I are washing our hands at home. We do not have a latrine so we have to go to the bush. This is bad, it is better and easier at school. At the village we have pipe water which is clean. It does not take much time to fetch the water at home. We have this water facility for a year now, before we had to go to the dam to get water. The dam water is very dirty but there was no other choice so I had to drink it. We got ill often and could not go to school. For the school meals we have to collect water daily, one class per day of the week. This water is from the dam. The school is still waiting to be connected to the pipe water supply of Ghana Water Company.

18 Resultaten Fase 2 10 scholen in Tamale Metro en Sagnarigu zijn geholpen met verbeterde water en sanitatie voorzieningen SHEP (Sanitation Hygiene Education) Clubs zijn geformeerd en opgeleid. 3 CLTS (Community Led Total Sanitation) campagnes zijn uitgevoerd in de communities van Vittin, Guunayili and Kambonaayili. 5 lokale toitet bouwers zijn getraind in 3 communities. Quiz competities zijn georganiseerd voor de school SHEP Clubs.
