Het Rotterdamse Greenclouds is een van de twee winnaars van de CeBIT-wedstrijd CODE_n13 voor jonge bedrijven. Het thema was duurzame digitale energieoplossingen. Greenclouds, een broker van overtollige computercapaciteit uit datacenters, won in de categorie 'Emerging Companies'. De winnaar in de categorie 'Start-ups' is het Berlijnse Changers.com, een online duurzaamheidsplatform rond draagbare zonne-energie-opladers. Beide bedrijven hebben elk vijftienduizend euro gewonnen. De prijsuitreiking vond donderdagavond 7 maart plaats. Greenclouds en Changers.com behoorden al tot de vijftig finalisten die hun oplossingen deze week in Hal 16 tijdens de CeBIT mogen presenteren. De CODE_n-wedstrijd werd voor de tweede keer gehouden. Vorig jaar was het thema van CODE_n12 innovatieve mobiele oplossingen. Deelnemende jonge bedrijven moesten voor CODE_n13 een business model insturen voor duurzame digitale energieoplossingen. Uit de 250 inzendingen uit 35 landen werden vijftig bedrijven uitgekozen, waaronder drie Nederlandse bedrijven. Naast Greenclouds zijn dat Ecochain (software voor duurzaamheidsbepaling) en Bluerise (zeewaterenergie-opwekker). Het Rotterdamse Greencloudsbiedt een platform aan waarbij het computercapaciteit die ict-bedrijven in hun datacenters over hebben, afneemt, bundelt en aanbiedt in de cloud. Dit principe van 'running the cloudtogether' zorgt er voor dat datacenters efficiënter werken en vermindert hun ecologische voetafdruk aanzienlijk, aldus de jury van Code_n13. Andere prijzen Naast deze twee hoofdprijzen werd nog een aantal andere sponsorprijzen uitgedeeld. Zo nodigde de toeleverancier voor de automobielindustrie Continental, een nieuwe partner van CODE_n, de Duitse startupscarzapp uit Berlijn en Codeatelier uit Burgstetten uit om deel te nemen aan zijn stand op de internationale autoshow IAA in Frankfurt. Ook kunnen beide jonge bedrijven ondernemingsadvies krijgen van Continental. Carzapp exploiteert een platform voor autodelen en Codeatelier heeft de apphomee ontwikkeld waarmee mensen thuis hun apparatenpark kunnen beheren. Verder selecteerde Seedmatch Changers.com en Carzapp om mee te doen aan zijn crowdfunding platform. Tot 5 mei kunnen privé-investeerders met een Duitse bankrekening via seedmatch.de vanaf 250 euro aandelen kopen in deze twee start-ups. Dit Rotterdams softwarebedrijf levert een platform waarbij het computercapaciteit die ict-bedrijven in hun datacenters over hebben, afneemt, bundelt en aanbiedt in de cloud. Met het extra kapitaal wil Greenclouds zijn platform gaan aanbieden in andere landen, zoals Zwitserland en Rusland en op termijn Frankrijk en Groot-Brittannië. Dit meldde het bedrijf op de vakbeurs CeBIT, waar het een van de finalisten is van de wedstrijd CODE_n13. Greenclouds heeft het afgelopen jaar intensief gezocht naar een durfkapitalist, tot in SiliconValley aan toe. Volgens welingelichte bronnen zou het Franse Aster Capital bereid zijn kapitaal te verschaffen waarmee het bedrijf zijn brokerplatform als een hub ook in andere landen kan aanbieden, zoals Rusland en Zwitserland. Greenclouds wil geen namen noemen, maar zegt wel in onderhandeling met een investeerder te zijn. In Rusland is de vraag naar computercapaciteit fors groeiend en Zwitserland wil zich naar analogie van zijn bancaire rol ontwikkelen tot het land waar de veiligste datacenters staan. Daar gebeurt momenteel veel op datacenter-gebied, licht marketing manager Rob Rijkhoek toe. In een later stadium wil het bedrijf ook actief worden in Frankrijk en Groot-Brittannië. In Nederland zoekt het bedrijf ook naar uitbreiding. Aan datacenterexploitanten die hun overcapaciteit ter beschikking stellen worden wel eisen gesteld, zoals hardware die niet ouder is dan drie jaar, het gebruik van een hypervisor (VMware), het voldoen aan bepaalde standaarden en certificeringen, zoals ISO27000, en het willen sluiten van meerjarige overeenkomsten. Tariefstelling In Nederland tapt het cloudplatform van zeven datacentra ongebruikte computercapaciteit af. Partners zijn KPN, Datacenter Group en Equinix. De overbodige computercapaciteit komt in een pool terecht en de partners krijgen betaald wanneer hun capaciteit wordt afgenomen. Klanten zijn bijvoorbeeld Imtech en TomTom, maar ook een clouddienstverlener als Jitscale die met GreencloudsInfrastructure as a service (Iaas) aanbiedt. Omdat er op de markt geen duidelijke tariefstelling voor computercapaciteit bestaat, heeft Greenclouds een eigen rekenmodel opgezet waarbij het tarieven vaststelt aan de hand van drie factoren: cpu, geheugen en opslag. Hubs Volgens Rijkhoek wijzen onderzoeken uit dat slechts 6 tot 12 procent van de computercapaciteit in datacentra daadwerkelijk wordt gebruikt. Veel rekencapaciteit blijft dus ongebruikt, ondanks de groei van virtualisatietechnologie. Dat heeft naast dat er nog veel verouderde datacentra operationeel zijn in de wereld te
maken met het inbouwen van zekerheid. Datacenterexploitanten willen piekmomenten altijd kunnen opvangen om te voorkomen dat de websites van hun klanten plat gaan. Omdat het dataverkeer groeiende is, groeit de overcapaciteit mee om een plotselinge hoge piek in gebruik aan te kunnen. Greenclouds is in 2009 gestart met het bouwen van een softwareplatform om te handelen in computercapaciteit. Eind 2011 is het bedrijf live gegaan. Voor de bouw van het softwareplatform heeft Greenclouds een beroep kunnen doen op de innovatieregeling Wbso en het Innovatiekrediet van het ministerie van Economische Zaken. 'Uiteindelijk willen we in meerdere landen hubs openen, waarbij ons platform fungeert als een exchange, een marktplaats waar computercapaciteit wordt ingekocht en verkocht', stelt Rijkhoek. CODE_n Greenclouds behoort tot een van de vijftig startups en jonge bedrijven die de finale hebben bereikt van CeBITwedstrijd CODE_n13. Deelnemende bedrijven moesten een business model insturen voor duurzame digitale energieoplossingen. De vijftig finalisten mogen hun oplossingen deze week presenteren in Hal 16 van de CeBIT.
