Engels is de belangrijkste taal en in het dagelijks leven gebruik je zo vaak Engelse woorden, dat het je misschien niet eens meer opvalt. Veel studies op het hbo en de universiteit zijn Engelstalig. Om goed voorbereid aan je vervolgstudie te beginnen, biedt het tweetalig onderwijs (tto) op Lariks je de mogelijkheid om je de taal heel goed eigen te maken. Als je bij ons het tweetalige havo of vwo hebt afgerond, heb je een grote voorsprong bij veel studies. Tweetalig onderwijs is overigens meer dan alleen Engels leren. Je ontdekt de wereld en bereidt je voor op je toekomst! Bilingual education: discover the world! English is the most important language in the world and you use English words so often that you might not even notice them anymore. A lot of courses at college and university are in English. To be well-prepared for this, bilingual education (tto) at Lariks gives you the opportunity to learn the language very well. Once you have finished bilingual havo or vwo at our school, you will have a great advantage in many studies. However, bilingual education is more than just learning English. You will discover the world and prepare for the future! 3 Wat is Tto? Als je tweetalig onderwijs volgt, doe je het reguliere havo, atheneum of gymnasium, met een groot verschil: minstens de helft van de lessen heb je in het Engels. Havo, klas 1 wiskunde gym geschiedenis biologie aardrijkskunde tekenen/handvaardigheid Engels Vakken in het Engels Vwo, klas 1 wiskunde gym godsdienst geschiedenis biologie aardrijkskunde ICT Engels muziek Vanaf je eerste dag in de brugklas, wordt er tijdens deze lessen Engels gesproken. Zo raak je snel vertrouwd met de taal. Je wordt als het ware ondergedompeld in het Engels en langzaam maar zeker spreek je de taal steeds beter. Naast de lessen in het Engels is er ook veel aandacht voor Europese en Internationale Oriëntatie. Zo leer je de wereld steeds beter kennen! Ook zijn er speciale activiteiten voor tto-leerlingen, zoals theaterbezoek en een reis naar Groot Brittannië. Aan het einde van klas 3 sluit je het Junior tto af met de Cambridge Checkpoint-toetsen. Vanaf het vierde jaar ga je je steeds meer voorbereiden op je Nederlandstalige eindexamen en om die reden heb je dan minder les in het Engels. Naast de vakken die je dan nog wel in het Engels volgt, krijg je in het vierde en vijfde jaar van tto-vwo het vak Global Perspectives. Ook bereid je je dan voor op het examen IB English A: Language and Literature aan het einde van tto-6. Op het havo krijg je ook Global Perspectives en doe je in tto-havo 5 het IB English B-examen. Ook schrijf je je profielwerkstuk in het Engels en neem je deel aan verschillende Engelstalige activiteiten. Toelatingseisen Om op het tweetalig onderwijs te worden toegelaten moet je goed gemotiveerd zijn en doorzettingsvermogen hebben, want zeker in het begin is het hard werken. Verder ben je goed in taal en heb je van je leerkracht op de basisschool een duidelijk havo- of vwo-advies gekregen. Daarnaast heb je natuurlijk plezier in leren en vind je het leuk om na verloop van tijd vloeiend Engels te spreken! Informatie voor ouders Ouderbijdrage Een tto-opleiding is duurder dan een reguliere opleiding. Internationale contacten, culturele activiteiten, materialen voor de mediatheek en examengelden brengen extra kosten met zich mee. De hoogte van de extra ouderbijdrage voor tto wordt jaarlijks vastgesteld; voor informatie hierover kunt u terecht bij de coördinatoren. Kwaliteit Onze school is lid van het Landelijk Netwerk voor tweetalig onderwijs, dat wordt gecoördineerd door het Europees Platform. Het Europees Platform stelt ook de standaard voor tweetalig onderwijs Engels vast. Aan de in deze kwaliteitsstandaard gestelde eisen moeten scholen die tto aanbieden voldoen om erkend te worden als tto-school. Daarnaast is onze school een Cambridge Associate School; onze school mag alle vakken van Cambridge International Examinations aanbieden. 4 What is bilingual education? At bilingual education, you follow the regular havo, atheneum or gymnasium, with one big difference: at least half of your lessons will be in English. Havo, year 1 Maths Physical education History Biology Geography Art & Craft English Lessons in English Vwo, year 1 Maths Physical education Religion History Biology Geography ICT English Music In these lessons you will speak English from your first day in year 1. In this way you will become familiar with the language very quickly. You will be, in a way, immersed in English and you will gradually speak the language better and better. Next to the lessons in English, there is also a lot of attention for European and International Orientation. In this way you will get to know the world. There are also special activities for bilingual students, such as theatre visits and a trip to the United Kingdom. At the end of year 3, you will finish your Junior tto with the Cambridge Checkpoint tests. In year 4 you will then start preparing for the Dutch final exams and for that reason you will have fewer lessons in English. Next to the subjects that you will still have in English, you will take the subject Global Perspectives in years 4 and 5 of bilingual vwo. You will then also prepare for the English A: Language and Literature exam at the end of year 6. At havo you will also take Global perspectives and you will take the IB English B exam in year 5. You will also write your extended essay in English and take part in several activities in English. Requirements To be admitted to bilingual education you have to be motivated and not give up easily, because especially at the start you will have to work hard. Next to this you are good at language and your teacher at primary school must have given you a clear havo or vwo advice. Apart from that you must, of course, enjoy learning and being able to speak English fluently after some time! Information for Parents Fees Bilingual education is more expensive than regular havo or vwo. International contacts, cultural activities, library materials and exam fees result in extra fees. The amounts are set yearly; for more information you can contact the coordinators. Quality Our school is a member of the National Network of Bilingual Schools, which is coordinated by the European Platform. The European Platform also sets and monitors the Standaard voor tweetalig onderwijs. Any school that offers bilingual education and wants to be a tto school has to confirm to the requirements laid down in this standard of quality. Our school is also a Cambridge Associate School, which means that our school can offer all the subjects offered by Cambridge International Examinations.
