2 VOORBEREIDEN OP EEN OPLEIDING AAN DE VRIJE UNIVERSITEIT (VU) Een opleiding aan de VU Als u een buitenlandse vooropleiding heeft en u wilt een Nederlandstalige bachelor opleiding of een pre-masteropleiding volgen, dan moet u het Staatsexamen NT2 (Nederlands als tweede taal), programma II behalen. En als u niet direct toegang heeft tot een (Nederlandstalige of Engelstalige) opleiding, dan moet u ook slagen voor andere universitaire toelatingsexamens (bijvoorbeeld wiskunde). De Vrije Universiteit biedt een unieke mogelijkheid om u voor te bereiden op deze examens: het Voorbereidend jaar Anderstalige Studenten () en. NEDERLANDS Het vak Nederlands volgt u bij het of bij. Beide leiden op tot niveau B2. Dat is het niveau dat u nodig heeft voor het Staatsexamen NT2-II. Bij kunt u in elke periode beginnen met elk niveau. Vanaf september 2015 kunt u de andere vakken in het volgen na niveau 1 (= niveau A2) of na niveau 2 (= niveau B1). VAKKEN In het volgt u lessen in de vakken die u nodig heeft voor de opleiding die u heeft gekozen. Wie medische of exacte opleidingen (behalve informatica en wiskunde) wil studeren, krijgt Nederlands, Engels, wiskunde, natuurkunde, scheikunde en biologie. Wie een andere opleiding wil studeren volgt Nederlands, Engels, wiskunde en geschiedenis. Ook is er aandacht voor studievaardigheden en oriëntatie op de Nederlandse samenleving. ExamEns Na het voltooien van alle niveaus Nederlands, doet u het Staatsexamen NT2-II. De andere vakken worden afgesloten met de toelatingsexamens van de VU. Als u daar voor slaagt, dan kunt u in september 2016 beginnen met een opleiding aan de VU. StudIEBELASTING Voorbereiding op een opleiding is fulltime. U heeft 15 tot 25 lesuren per week les. Elk lesuur kost u ongeveer een uur huiswerk. Dit betekent dus dat u rekening moet houden met vijf volle dagen per week voor lessen en studeren. Activiteiten tijdens het studiejaar ter voorbereiding op een opleiding Mentor: u heeft een persoonlijke mentor, een van de docenten. Zij of hij geeft u extra begeleiding tijdens de cursus en over studieplannen. Studie-informatie: u krijgt informatie over uw toekomstige opleiding en u krijgt gelegenheid om voorlichtingsactiviteiten van de opleiding te bezoeken. Ontmoetingen met VU studenten: er zijn ontmoetingen met ex- cursisten die studeren aan de VU en zij geven nuttige adviezen en handige tips. Excursies: er zijn twee excursies, die zowel educatief als ontspannend zijn. U leert meer over verschillende aspecten van de Nederlandse samenleving. Cursusgeld Informatie over het cursusgeld staat op de website. Aanmelding en inschrijving Indeling van het jaar Studying at the VU University Het studiejaar is verdeeld in periodes. 3 Stap 1: Aanmelding en inschrijving Als U nog weinig of geen Nederlands spreekt of u wilt alleen Nederlands leren, kom dan naar het spreekuur. U hoeft geen afspraak te maken. We bespreken met u welke cursus geschikt is en of u een intaketoets moet doen. Als u al wat Nederlands spreekt (ten minste op A2-niveau) en u wilt ook andere vakken leren, kom dan naar het spreekuur. U hoeft geen afspraak te maken. Of kom langs op een van de informatie- en inschrijfmiddagen: Maandag 15 juni en woensdag 12 augustus 2015 om uur in zaal 12A-36 van het Hoofdgebouw van de VU. Stap 2: U doet een intaketoets Na een mondelinge en eventueel schriftelijke intaketoets Nederlands bepalen wij uw niveau en de geschikte cursus voor u. Als u nog geen Nederlands spreekt, doet u geen toets. Iedereen doet de intaketoetsen Nederlands, Engels en wiskunde. Voor exacte en medische opleidingen zijn er ook intaketoetsen natuurkunde en scheikunde. Intake in juni of augustus is gewenst. Soms kunt u ook later in het jaar bij het starten. Dit hangt af van uw studiekeuze en van het resultaat op de intaketoetsen. De data van de intaketoetsen staan op de website. Na beoordeling van uw resultaten, ontvangt u een met informatie over het niveau Nederlands waarop u bent ingedeeld, of u met het kunt starten en hoe u kunt betalen.

4 PREPARING FOR A VU UNIVERSITY EDUCATION Studying at the VU University Do you wish to enroll in a Dutch-language bachelor programme or a pre-master programme? Did you complete an international pre-university education, but do not you speak (enough) Dutch and/or does your education not give direct access to your study programme at a university in the Netherlands and you have to sit one or more university entrance examinations? In those cases, the VU University offers a unique opportunity to prepare yourself for those examinations through its foundation year () and. Dutch Dutch language classes are either at the or at. Both will prepare you for level B2. This level is required for the National Examination Dutch as a second language, programme II (Staatsexamen NT2-II). At you may start classes every second month at each level. From September 2015 onwards, you may start with other subjects in the after level 1 (= level A2) or after level 2 (= level B1). Classes In the you will attend classes in those subjects that are required for your study programme. For those preparing for medical or science-related programmes (except computer science and mathematics) it involves the subjects Dutch, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. For others: Dutch, English, mathematics and history. On top of that, there is attention for academic study skills and knowledge of the Dutch society. Examinations After completing all language levels, you will sit the Staatsexamen NT2-II. The other subjects will be concluded with the entrance examinations of the VU University. If you pass all examinations, you can start with your study programme in September Study loads Preparing for a study is a fulltime activity. There are 15 to 25 hours of classes each week. Each hour of class requires about one hour of homework. This means that you will need five days per week for classes and studying. Activities during the year to prepare you for studying Mentoring: you will have a mentor, one of the lecturers. She or he will provide extra guidance concerning the foundation year and study plans. Information: you will receive information about your future study programme and will be able to attend introductory activities of the various study programmes, Meeting with VU-students: you will meet former students, now studying at the university, providing useful tips and tricks. 5 Step 1: Applying If you have little or no knowledge of the Dutch language or you need to learn Dutch and no other subjects, visit the consultation hours. An appointment is not needed. Together, we discuss which course is suitable and whether you need to take an entry test. If you have already some knowledge of the Dutch language (at least level A2) and also want to take courses in other subjects, visit the consultation hours. No need to make an appointment. Or visit one of the information and registration sessions: Monday 15 June and Wednesday 12 August 2015 at hours in room 12A-36 of the Main Building of the VU University. Step 2: Taking an entry test After a written and in some cases an oral test in Dutch, we establish the most suitable course for you. This does not apply to absolute beginners. Everyone will take the entry tests in Dutch, English and mathematics. For those interested in medical or science-related study programmes, there are tests in chemistry and physics too. Intake in June or August is strongly recommended. However, you may be able to start later in the academic year, depending on your study programme and results on the entry tests.
