De kleuren en het tellen tot 20. De leerlingen maken kennis met de woorden die horen bij het thema. De kinderen begrijpen de instructies in het Materialen: handpop Giraffe Giraffe is in de klas en slaapt. Zing met de leerlingen de Hello Song om Giraffe wakker te maken. Hello Song Hello Giraffe, hello Giraffe, Hi ho the derio, Hello Giraffe. (zwaai naar Giraffe) (zwaai naar Giraffe) (2x) Giraffe wordt heel langzaam wakker, maar is zo slaperig dat hij graag weer naar bed gaat. Dat komt goed uit! De leerkracht wil de leerlingen namelijk een geheimpje vertellen en Giraffe mag het niet horen, dus ssst! Zachtjes praten, want we willen niet dat hij wakker wordt. Over drie weken is Giraffe jarig en zijn vriendjes zijn een huis voor hem aan het bouwen. Giraffe mag echter niet weten dat het huis voor hem is, dus ssst! Children, Giraffe is sleepy today! (Spoken:) They are making a present! 4. Film: Teacher s Birthday Activeer de film. De leerlingen zien kinderen die met verschillende knutselactiviteiten bezig zijn. De juf is jarig en ze zijn bezig met het knutselen van een verassing. Wat maken ze allemaal? Wat hebben ze daar bij nodig? Let s watch a film now. 2 Les 2 Feelings Lesduur: 40 minuten Kernwoordwoorden: boxes, paint, paintbrushes, tape, paper, Uitbreidingswoorden: surprise, earphones Herhaling groep 1 t/m 3: happy, sad, mad, scared Lesdoelen De leerlingen begrijpen de emoties happy, scared, mad en sad De kinderen begrijpen de instructies in het Engels en kunnen deze uitvoeren Materialen: Giraffe, papieren bordjes, stiften, scharen, wol, lijm Samen met de kinderen zingt u de Hello Song. Giraffe is ook aanwezig en heeft een koptelefoon op. Hij luistert naar muziek. Hé, Giraffe, waar luister je naar? Giraffe vertelt dat hij bijna jarig is en dat hij naar verjaardagsmuziek luistert. De leerkracht laat Giraffe lekker zijn gang gaan, zodat Giraffe niet het liedje hoort dat de kinderen gaan zingen. Dat zou namelijk de verassing bederven! 3. A Mask Nu is het tijd om zelf aan de slag te gaan! Je hebt nodig: papieren bordjes, stiften, scharen, wol, lijm. De leerlingen maken een happy, sad, mad of sad masker. 3 Les 3 Feelings Lesduur: 30 minuten Herhaling groep 1 t/m 3: happy, sad, mad, scared De leerlingen begrijpen de emoties happy, scared, mad en sad. Materialen: Giraffe 3. Game: Guess the feeling Roep een kind voor de klas en fluister happy, scared, mad of sad in zijn oor. De leerling beeldt de emotie uit en de rest van de klas moet raden welke emotie het is. Daarna doet de hele klas de emotie na. When I say your name, I want you to come out here next to me. I m going to whisper in your ear. I m going to say happy or sad or mad or scared. Flashcards: Crafts Vraag aan Giraffe of hij de woorden kan benoemen. Giraffe fluistert de woorden in het oor van de leerkracht. De leerkracht herhaalt het hardop en vraagt aan de leerlingen of het goed is. Zo nu en dan maakt Giraffe een fout. Wie in de klas weet wat het goede woord is? Voor de klas staat een (kleine) doos met de geprinte flashcards van de kernwoorden erin. Vraag een kind een flashcard eruit te halen. Giraffe vraagt aan het kind: What have you got? De leerling zegt: I ve got (paint). Loop rond met de doos en geef verschillende leerlingen een beurt. Look at the pictures on the board. Giraffe, what can you see? Whisper in my ear, please. 5 Les 5 Small and big Lesduur: 30 minuten Herhaling groep 1 t/m 3: big, small Consolidatie van de kernwoorden. De leerlingen kennen de begrippen big en small. Materialen: Giraffe We re going to listen to a song now about big and small. Now, let s listen again and this time act out something small. Show me a small ant running on your hand, up your arm. Now act out a big elephant, show me! 3. Memory Game: Making a present Speel samen met de klas het spel. 2. Revision Song: Making a present De leerlingen zitten in een kring met hun cadeautje voor Giraffe. Giraffe heeft een feestmuts op. Vandaag is Giraffe jarig! Hij is 7 jaar geworden. Happy birthday, Giraffe. Zullen we Happy Birthday voor Giraffe zingen? Giraffe, we ve got another surprise for you! Look at the board, please, everyone. Your friends have made a present for you Giraffe. Who can tell Giraffe what it is? What did they use? We know a song about making presents; shall we sing it for Giraffe? Observeer de leerlingen. Test Als u als leerkracht ook graag wil weten of een kind vooruitgang boekt en of een kind de aangeboden lesstof tot zich heeft genomen, kunt u naast uw observaties er ook voor kiezen de kinderen een korte woordentoets af te nemen. De toets is op twee niveaus beschikbaar: Test A: hier wordt getest of de leerlingen acht kernwoorden receptief kennen: (boxes, paint, paintbrushes, tape, paper, ). Test B: hier wordt getest of de leerlingen tien kernwoorden receptief kennen: (boxes, paint, paintbrushes, tape, paper,, glue, scissors). Happy Birthday Happy birthday to you. (2x) Happy birthday, dear Giraffe. Happy birthday to you. Daarna mogen de leerlingen hun zelfgemaakte cadeautjes geven. Laat enkele leerlingen vertellen wat het is en wat ze gebruikt hebben om het te kunnen maken. (I made..., I used...) Today is a special day, isn t it? It s Giraffe s birthday. Look, he s wearing his birthday hat! How old are you? Oh, Giraffe says that he is seven today. Happy birthday Giraffe! Shall we sing Happy Birthday to him? 9 Les 9 Extra activities Game: It s a race Voor in de klas staan twee tafels en op elke tafel ligt een stapel flashcards (identiek) en een doos. In de klas is een pad vrijgemaakt, zodat de leerlingen kunnen rennen. Verdeel de klas in twee groepen. De leerkracht roept een naam van een afbeelding en van elke groep hollen er twee kinderen naar voren toe om de juiste kaart in de doos te doen. Controleer na vijf beurten of de goede kaarten erin zitten. Als dit het geval is, krijgt de groep een punt. Welke groep heeft als eerste drie punten? We re going to play a game. You are going to get into two groups. Then you are going to stand here. On the table are two boxes and two sets of cards. Crafts: Birthday decoration Voor de verjaardag van Giraffe maken de leerlingen een vlaggetjesslinger om de klas en de stoel te versieren. Je hebt nodig: gekleurd papier, schaar, lijm, touw. Knip allemaal driehoeken en rechthoeken van verschillend gekleurd papier. Lijm de bovenkant om een stuk draad. Je kunt de slinger zo lang maken als je zelf wilt.
