1 Gesprekken voeren en schrijven A1 Task 1 Event Peter works at the common helpdesk of an office building with several foreign businesses in Amsterdam. Communication takes place in English. An English company secretary walks towards him with some papers in her hand and puts them on the desk. Listen to the conversation, then practise and switch roles. luisterfragment task 1 Don t be embarrassed Niet met je mond vol tanden... Een van de vervelendste dingen die je kunnen overkomen, is dat je niet verstaat of begrijpt wat iemand zegt. Dat is vervelend voor de ander en voor jezelf. Je moet in zo n geval eerst aangeven dat je het niet verstaat, door bijvoorbeeld Pardon? te zeggen. Je kunt dan verwachten dat de vraag of zin wordt herhaald. Meestal hebben vreemdetaalsprekers veel begrip voor zo n situatie en spreken ze langzamer, of proberen ze het op een andere manier te formuleren. Als het weer niet lukt, kun je weer reageren met Pardon? of hen vriendelijk verzoeken iets langzamer te spreken: Could you speak more slowly, please? Als het dan nog niet lukt, wordt de hulp van een ander ingeroepen. I am sorry, I ll call the supervisor.

2 Versta je de ander wel nadat je hebt gevraagd iets langzamer te spreken, dan reageer je met bijvoorbeeld Oh, I see. 3 Task 3 You work at the reception desk. There are some people who ask you for information. You find it difficult to understand them. So you try again. Look at the flow chart. It offers you different ways of saying things. Make your choice from each box. Play these dialogues with a pairwork partner. Each partner writes out a different dialogue on a sheet of paper first. Then practise both dialogues aloud. Hand the sheet with the dialogue and your name on it in to your teacher. Don t forget to switch roles. NB: if you don t know how to do it, look at the example underneath the task.

4 Example: Task 4 Suzanne is on duty at the car park of the hospital and nursing home. Due to road constructions, the car park is now temporarily opposite the hospital. Listen to the conversation, work in pairs. Switch roles. luisterfragment task 4

Listen and practise. Learn them by heart.
