Delivery of industrial waste heat
History & lessons learned On the political agenda since the 70 s Occasion was the refurbishment of Hoogvliet The idea was extracting heat from a oil refinery to heat the houses in Hoogvliet If it is feasible for Hoogvliet, it must be feasible for Rotterdam! For Rotterdam more thermal capacity is needed Extracting a high capacity heat from a oil refinery is more complex Feasibility of business case came under pressure
History & lessons learned Pressure cooker session for other waste heat sources Conclusion/results: The extraction of waste heat from waste incinerator (105 MWth) leads to a feasible business case Optimization of business model was needed of less complex and cost effective recovery of waste heat sources, e.g. oil refinery Complete portfolio with different types of heat sources
Connect 50.000 additional households by 2023 - CO 2 -reduction of circa 80 kton per year - 10% reduction of NO X -emissions - Improvement of industrial energy efficiency Delta NO x -concentration by using industrial waste heat in stead of natural gas Nieuw-Crooswijk Erasmus MC Maasstad Ziekenhuis
