D-FUSE: Hoge diffusiteit Hoge lichttransmissie Wat zijn de eigenschappen van D-FUSE en waarom zijn dezebelangrijk? Belangrijk is hoeveel van het in de kas binnenkomende licht op het gewas valt en door de planten benut kan worden. Planten gaan efficiënter om met diffuse straling, omdat die straling beter verdeeld wordt; het licht dringt dieper in het gewas door. De horizontale verdeling van het licht in het gewas is gelijkmatiger bij diffuus licht, slagschaduw van constructiedelen wordt bijvoorbeeld vermeden. WUR heeft veel onderzoek gedaan naar diffuus licht. We beginnen nu met enkele onderzoeksresultaten om een eerste idee te krijgen bij de effecten van diffuus licht. 1. WUR rapport 308: Diffuus licht Wat is de optimale lichtverstrooiing? Th.A. Dueck, D. Poudel, J. Janse & S. Hemming Conclusie: Lichttransmissie is van groot belang, maar de factor HAZE (diffusiteit) mag niet onderschat worden. Productie verhoging onder diffuus licht lijkt vooral veroorzaakt te worden door de factor diffuus oftewel HAZE in de voorjaarsteelt en in mindere mate in de najaarsteelt. Wanneer rekening wordt gehouden met een gelijke lichttransmissie, maar meer HAZE, zou verondersteld kunnen worden dat de productie toeneemt. Dat betekent een verdubbeling van de productie bij verhoging van de diffusiteit van 30% tot 70% in het voorjaar. In het najaar lijkt de mate van diffusiteit van minder belang te zijn dan lichttransmissie. Er kan geconcludeerd worden dat vooral in het voorjaar, en in mindere mate in het najaar, een hoge mate van diffusiteit aan te bevelen is. De HAZE factor moet tenminste 50% zijn, maar bij een gelijke lichttransmissie is een hogere HAZE factor aan te bevelen. 2. WUR rapport 21 September 2011: Diffuus licht en Temperatuur Th.A. Dueck, D. Poudel, J. Janse & S. Hemming Conclusie: Als de instraling hetzelfde blijft, maar de diffusiteit neemt toe, dan daalt de bladtemperatuur. Dat voorkomt directe verbrandingsverschijnselen op bladeren, vruchten en bloemen. Daarom is een hogere HAZE factor aan te bevelen in lichtrijke maanden. Ongeveer 10% meer HAZE, maar 2.5% minder lichttransmissie, geeft dezelfde productie. Een hogere HAZE factor heeft bij tomaat geleid tot een hoger vruchtgewicht. Een hogere temperatuur kon worden aangehouden in vergelijking tot helder glas. Het gewas staat onder diffuus duidelijk generatiever met een dikkere kop, sterkere tros en iets korter blad. D-FUSE We maken onderscheid tussen D-FUSE diffuuscoating voor groenteteelt en sierteelt. Het verschil zit hem in de mate van diffusiteit en lichttransmissie (zie onderstaande grafiek). Tenslotte is een tomaat gebaat bij meer lichttransmissie dan bijvoorbeeld een roos. Gebaseerd op WUR onderzoek hanteren wij voor D-FUSE een minimum HAZE van 70% en een hoge lichttransmissie. Afhankelijk van teelt wordt D-FUSE in maart april aangebracht en verwijderd in Augustus September. Zodoende heeft u de maanden met veel instraling een optimaal effect van het diffuse licht. In het najaar is door weersomstandigheden het licht van nature al diffuus, denk aan bewolking, en de instraling is dan laag. Light in horticulture An important subject for growing plants in greenhouses is light, that s because plants won t grow without light. The sunlight that enters the greenhouse is for free and that s why we want to use as much of it as possible. Too much light can cause damage to the crop therefore most growers use a shading agent on their greenhouse. Different types of light The basics of light is the wavelength. The light that humans can see is only a small part of all the light that reaches the earth. This little part consists out of the wavelengths 400 750 nm and represents all the colours in the rainbow. The light as humans see it is called LUX light. As the graph shows humans see a lot of green and yellow light compared to all of the other colours. For plants the peaks in the graph are totally different. Plants see a lot more red and blue light which is called PAR light (Photosynthetic Active Radiation). LUX light PAR light Shading To prevent the crop from being damaged, a shading agent is sprayed on to the glasshouse roof during the summer to reduce the intensity of the light. Traditionally used products were powder formulations which stuck to the glasshouse. More recently liquid formulations have appeared making application as well as removal much easier. Diffused light The next generation greenhouse coatings, D-FUSE, become available in 2012. These coatings will make the light diffuse. Light that enters the greenhouse through normal glass or glass with a shading agent applied does so in a straight line. It does so in a straight line. With the next generation greenhouse coating light becomes diffused as it enters the greenhouse. By diffusing the light, light is spread in every direction inside the greenhouse, resulting in it reaching places within the crop growth and higher yields. The rate at which light enters the glasshouse is called the Haze factor - the higher the Haze factor, the more diffused the light is. Recent studies (Wageningen UR) and user experiences with this next generation greenhouse coatings have shown that in crops like Roses the production increased with about 4 5%. In other crops, like Peppers, the climate became more stable
Wear away percentage the wear off during the season will be greater than when shaded with a high percentage, for example 80%. The wear off of the shading agents starts at the top of the greenhouses, as seen in the picture. This is because this part of the greenhouse is most vulnerable for the elements. This wear off is unwanted because the light that still enters the greenhouse can be too strong for the crop. This is the reason that most growers apply a shading agent a second time during the season, which is expensive. Wear off No wear off Shading agents in to practice Every crop is different - some require much more shade than others, meaning in practice many different rates can be required. The lower the percentage of shading required, the more light can enter the glasshouse. Dosage The application rate of liquid shading agents can be adjusted much easier than powder formulations. Normal shading reeffect on the crop. Perecentages of shading are expressed as percentage of LUX. Application Shading agents are applied by mixing the liquids with water to give the right application rate - the amount of water required can vary from product to product and the label should always be checked. When mixing the shading agent, it is best mixed in 75% of the total water required, then topped up to 100% of water, and applied to the glasshouse immediately.

Q4 White has minimal wear off so that a second application is not necessary in most cases. Q4 White has a durability of 4-5 months. DPF Black Dark liquid shading agent because of extra additives. This darker shade is unique, and hence is suitable for crops needing dark conditions (eg Phaleanopsis). DPF Black has a high heat reduction capacity, and will therefore give much cooler conditions compared to any white shading agent. Remover Removit Removit on the greenhouse and after some rain or by spraying the greenhouse off with water the shading agents will wash off from the greenhouse.
