1 FACTSHEET GULF STATES Fruit&VegetableFacts; JanKeesBoon; ; Golfstaten importeren jaarlijks 5 miljoen ton verse groenten/fruit ter waarde van 3 miljard dollar Nederland bescheiden leverancier De golfstaten importeren jaarlijks naar schatting rond de 5 miljoen ton verse groenten en fruit met een (Statistische import)waarde van waarde van ruim 3 miljard dollar. Binnen de golfstaten zijn de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten de belangrijkste afzetmarkt met een aandeel van ruim 4%, gevolgd door Saoedi-Arabië met iets meer dan 3%, Katar en Koeweit met beide iets minder dan 1% en verder nog Oman en Bahrein. Vanwege gebrekkige statistieken is het lastig om aan te geven wat de trend is. Uit opgeschoonde cijfers komt wel een duidelijke groei in de geïmporteerde hoeveelheid naar voren en dan vooral de import uit Egypte, Jordanië, Filippijnen, Pakistan, Zuid Afrika, Spanje en Nieuw Zeeland. Grote leveranciers zonder groei zijn: India, China, Jemen, Libanon en Turkije. De top-3 van leveranciers wordt gevormd door India, Egypte en Jordanië. Zuid-Afrika is vierde op lijst. De top-4 is goed voor de helft van de totale importwaarde. Nederland staat op een 14 de plek als het om waarde gaat. In hoeveelheid gezien is de top-3 wel dezelfde maar in andere volgorde. Nederland neemt op de hoeveelheid ranglijst een plek(je) in tussen de 2 en de 25. 2 Bananen de grootste Vooral de import van bananen is de afgelopen fors gegroeid. Inmiddels is bananen het belangrijkste importproduct in de golfstaten. De import van sinaasappelen, nummer 2, is mijn of meer stabel. Dat geldt ook voor uien. Andere belangrijke producten zijn tomaten, appels, mango s, citroenen, soft citrus,peen druiven en wwatermeloenen. Om de import per product echt goed in kaart te krijgen vergt een extra analyse met een opgeschoonde lijst. 15. ton Nederlands product In de beide afgelopen jaren kon er ruim 15. ton aan Nederlandse verse groenten en fruit naar de Golfstaten worden uigevoerd. In de eerste helft van dit jaar kan er 14% meer op die markt worden afgezet. Rond de 7% van deze export is gericht op de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. De belangrijkste producten van Nederlandse bodem zijn (volgorde hoeveelheid 213) uien, tomaten, paprika s, wittekool, champignons en ijsbergsla. Samen zijn deze 6 producten in 213 goed voor 7% van het totaal. Er wordt jaarrond Nederlands product naar de golfregio geëxporteerd. Gewoonlijk is in de herfstmaanden de export het grootst. In de eerste helft van dit jaar is de exportwaarde weer iets gedaald. 2

Op basis van FAO-cijfers werd er in 212 van de ruim 5,6 miljoen ton 4,1 miljoen ton in Saoedi-Arabië geoogst. Dadels is veruit het belangrijkste product met een productie van ruim een miljoen ton. De tomatenproductie beweegt zich al jaren op een niveau van ruim 5. ton. Watermeloenen, komkommers/augurken en meloenen zijn de andere belangrijke producten. Export vooral onderling De Golfstaten exporteren ook verse groenten en fruit maar dan vooral onderling. In totaal exporteerden de 5 golfstaten in 213 voor een bedrag van 313 miljoen dollar waarvan 13 miljoen naar andere landen. De belangrijkste andere landen waar naar toe wordt uitgevoerd zijn Jordanië, India, de Malediven en Indonesië. Bovenstaande is gebaseerd op de beschikbare statistieken. Van de golfstaten zelf zijn echter lang niet altijd betrouwbare (recente) statistieken over productie, import en export beschikbaar. Voor een belangrijk deel moet gewerkt worden met exportcijfers van andere landen naar de golfregio. Echter ook van de diverse leveranciers van de golfregio zijn ook niet altijd goede cijfers beschikbaar. De cijfers in deze factsheet moeten dan ook met de nodige voorzichtigheid bekeken worden. 3.
