2 RTLS Een systeem dat toelaat om de locatie van goederen, bijvoorbeeld in de logistiek, of personen te bepalen door middel van strategisch geplaatste antennes. Ranging sensors: een set van sensoren die worden gebruikt voor meetberekeningen tussen 2 of meer nodes (meestal de readers en mobile RF tags maar ook licht-, temperatuur- en bewegingssensoren komen voor). Readers: complexere nodes die op een vooraf bepaalde plaats geïnstalleerd zijn. En die door het systeem gebruikt worden om de positie van de tags te bepalen. Locating engine: verzamelt alle meetgegevens van de readers en tags om de exacte plaats van een bepaalde tag te bepalen.

7 RTLS past in de trends: Real time analytics, data into action, IoT John Wass, CEO of Littleton, Mass.-based Wavemark, Inc., comparing emergency departments to a "war-like environment" where it is not uncommon for there to be some level of chaos and stress, noted that "real-time information is absolutely critical." Wass talked about the fact that "one way of getting that information is via RFID active or passive tags that can show whether a needed piece of equipment is there or not and if it is nearby, where exactly it is. They can track critical medication, and tell whether it's safe to administer or expired. In addition wireless tech allows caregivers to "to focus on the patient." and not have to put as much attention on administrative tasks that take a lot of time.

10 RTLS WiFi IR UWB RFID BLE Relatieve voor- en nadelen Infrastructuur vaak al aanwezig, tags i.h.a. duur & groot & power hungry, inmeten en implementeren is bewerkelijk Hoge initiele investering, korte battery life, minder geschikt voor mobiele applicaties, erg nauwkeurig (zolang geen obstakels) Locatiebepaling erg precies maar reader-infrastructuur erg duur Goedkope stickers met onbeperkte levensduur, vereist net als UWB erg veel dure readers met bovendien hoog stralingsvermogen Flexibel aanpasbaar en schaalbaar, precisie recht evenredig aan het aantal readers dus opnieuw dure infrastructuur
