3 Geschiedenis De school bestaat al ruim 145 jaar. Zij is genoemd naar de wereldberoemde Nederlandse natuurkundige en Nobelprijswinnaar, Hendrik Antoon Lorentz, die eerst leerling en later nog enige tijd docent is geweest aan deze school. Doelstellingen Bevorderen dat leerlingen de huidige en toekomstige maatschappij gaan zien vanuit een grensoverstijgend perspectief. Het Lorentz Lyceum is een internationaal georiënteerde school waar leerlingen worden gestimuleerd verantwoordelijke wereldburgers te zijn. History The school has been in existence for around 145 years. It is named after the world-famous Dutch physicist and Nobel Prize winner, Hendrik Antoon Lorentz, who came to the school fi rst as a pupil and later for a time as a teacher. Our mission The Lorentz Lyceum is an internationally oriented school where pupils are encouraged to become responsible world citizens.

6 Profiel Wij zijn een school met een internationaal georiënteerd profi el. Dat komt o.a. tot uiting in: Versterkt talenonderwijs (VTO) in VWO HAVO MAVO. O.a. extra uren Engels, accent (combinatie van drama en Engels) en 1 vak wordt in het Engels gegeven, afsluitend Anglia-examen voor alle leerlingen. Tweetalig VWO/HAVO Het Lorentz Lyceum was één van de eerste scholen met tweetalig onderwijs in Nederland. Reeds 18 jaar ervaring. 60% van de lessen wordt in het Engels gegeven door native en near native speakers. Arnhem International School Opgericht in Een school met een Euregio functie. ± 150 leerlingen van verschillende nationaliteiten. Ondanks versterkt talenonderwijs en tweetalig VWO, kiest circa 50% van de bovenbouwleerlingen een Bèta-profi el. Profile The school has an internationally oriented profi le which is manifested, among other things, by: Intensive language education (VTO) in VWO HAVO MAVO. Includes extra hours of English, accent (combination of drama and English) and one subject taught in the English language; terminating in the Anglia examination for all pupils. Bilingual VWO/HAVO The Lorentz Lyceum was one of the fi rst schools offering bilingual (English/ Dutch) education in the Netherlands. We already have eighteen years experience. 60% of lessons are given in the English language by native and near-native speakers. Notwithstanding the intensive language education and bilingual VWO, around 50% of upper school pupils choose a Bèta-profi le. Arnhem International School (AIS) Established in A school with a Euregio function. The primary school is located close by. A total of ± 300 pupils of 45 different nationalities. A branch establishment in Goch (Germany). The AIS is an International Baccalaureate World School which offers the IB Diploma Programme. It is our policy to offer as much of our education as possible in a digital learning environment.

10 Voedingsgebied De school betrekt haar leerlingen uit Arnhem en directe omgeving. Leerlingen uit de Tweetalige afdeling en zeker die van de Arnhem International School wonen vaak nog verder van de school vandaan, soms tot in Duitsland. Internationale activiteiten In alle leerjaren internationale reizen en uitwisselingen. Diverse excursies met een internationaal karakter. Projecten met een internationaal accent, zoals bijvoorbeeld MUN. contacten met scholen in Europa en andere werelddelen Accommodatie Een school met veel voorzieningen waar het mogelijk is goed en modern onderwijs te geven. Ruime mediatheek, diverse computerlokalen, studieruimten, goed uitgeruste vaklokalen met o.a. activ boards. Aantal leerlingen en docenten Aantal leerlingen: 1146, waarvan 450 in TTO. 11 Supply area Pupils at the school live in Arnhem and the immediate neighbourhood. Those in the Bilingual department and certainly those in the Arnhem International School may live further away from the school, even as far as Germany. International activities All year groups take part in international trips and exchanges. Various excursions of an international character. Projects with an international accent, such as Model United Nations. contact with schools in Europe and other parts of the world. Accommodation A school with many facilities necessary for good, modern education. Spacious library, various computer rooms, study areas, subject rooms equipped with, for example, active boards among other things. 15 Arnhem Arnhem is de provinciehoofdstad. Het heeft niet alleen een regiofunctie, maar gezien haar ligging zijn er ook veel grensoverschrijdende contacten. In Arnhem en directe omgeving hebben zich vanwege o.a. de gunstige ligging verschillende multinationals gevestigd. En natuurlijk heeft Arnhem ook zijn international bekendheid gekregen vanwege de slag om Arnhem in september 1944, Operation Market Garden. Veel Engelse, Poolse, maar ook Duitse soldaten zijn hierbij gesneuveld. Arnhem en dus ook het Lorentz Lyceum gedenkt hen jaarlijks. Arnhem Arnhem is the main town of the region. It serves not only the region but, given its geographical location, there is also much contact over the borders. This convenient location has contributed to various multinational companies establishing themselves in Arnhem and surrounding areas. Also of course Arnhem acquired its own international fame from the battle Operation Market Garden in September 1944, when so many English, Polish but also German soldiers were killed in action. Arnhem and thus also the Lorentz Lyceum commemorates them every year.
