St. Dominic High School Think Globally, Act Locally Course outline school year 2016-2017 TERM 2 Subject: First Language Dutch (Advanced) School code CXC: 190003 School Code IB: 003992 Forms: 4 & 5, niveau B2 TERM 1: 14 november 2016 17 februari 2017 Grading system Test 2x Common Test 3x Quiz 1x Oral presentation 1x Assignment written 1X Projects 1X CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT Students are expected to be prepared for every class with their notebook and textbooks unless otherwise instructed. Tests and quizzes will be done usually at the end of a topic or after certain concepts are covered. Failure to hand in assignments on time will result in 1% or 10 % mark (at the discretion of the instructor) awarded to the students for that assignment. Electronic devises are not allowed in class hence teacher s permission. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom without teacher s permission. COURSE POLICIES All graded assignments must be typed in black ink (normal size 12 font, Times New Roman or Arial) or neatly handwritten on loose-leaf paper unless otherwise indicated. Refer to the student handbook concerning academic dishonesty, plagiarism, late assignments and missed tests. An assignment is considered late if it is not submitted within the contact hour on the due date. Assignments submitted on disc or USB pens or via e-mail will not be accepted. Students are expected to be prepared for every class with their notebook and textbooks unless otherwise instructed. Students missing a test will be required to provide a medical document or a letter from their parent(s) providing a valid explanation for their absence. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION The approach to instruction and presentation of material will vary depending on the topic and nature of content to be taught. The major methods of instruction to be utilized will be class lectures, group assignments, labassignments, visual aids and electronic audio-visual where appropriate and available. COURSE OBJECTIONS AND STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course objectives for First Language Dutch (Advanced) in Forms 4 and 5 have been subdivided into the four main language skills (listening, reading, speaking, and writing) and is in accordance with the European Framework of Reference B2 level. (See below for objectives and corresponding skills).

I can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to my field of interest. I can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. I can write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to my interests. I can write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view.
