Vernieuwd Appelsap blijft van en voor de culture Festival presenteert nieuwe indeling, complete line-up, nieuwe campagne en samenwerkingen met Patta, SMIB en Parra Het Amsterdamse muziekfestival Appelsap bestaat 18 jaar en gaat zich meer dan ooit hardmaken voor creative/street culture in de breedste zin. Het ontdekken, ontwikkelen en presenteren van nieuw talent krijgt prioriteit en daarom wordt het festivalterrein opnieuw ingedeeld. Appelsap presenteert vandaag de complete line-up voor 11 augustus en maakt bekend dat er die dag een 3 meter grote sculptuur van kunstenaar en vriend-van-het-festival Parra wordt onthuld tijdens het festival in het Flevopark. In lijn met de nieuwe plannen lanceert Appelsap vandaag ook de campagne van 2018, waarin een nieuwe generatie artiesten een ode brengt aan hiphophelden door de jaren heen.
Appelsap heeft in de afgelopen jaren bijgedragen aan de enorme groei van de hiphopcultuur in Nederland door toonaangevende internationale artiesten als Kendrick Lamar, Travi$ Scott, Skepta en Stormzy als eerste in Nederland te presenteren, en ook Nederlandse acts als Broederliefde, Lil Kleine, Sevn Alias, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig en The Opposites aan het begin van hun carrière een podium te geven. Het leverde Appelsap vorig jaar de prestigieuze Amsterdamprijs voor de Kunst op. In een veranderend festivallandschap blijft het ontdekken van de nieuwste acts het kernpunt van Appelsap. Daarom is er in de nieuwe indeling geen plek meer voor één hoofdpodium met grote Amerikaanse headliners, maar zijn alle podia aan elkaar gelijkwaardig. Met dat uitgangspunt richt het festival zich meer dan ooit op het allerbeste uit de (inter)nationale underground van hiphop- en elektronische muziek. Appelsap wil een verbindende rol spelen tussen nieuw talent en underground classics, stijlen en culturen, en zal zich ook richten op andere aspecten van street culture, zoals street fashion en kunst. Appelsap telt in 2018 drie podia plus het SMIB Station. De podia zijn samenwerkingen met Noisey, Boiler Room en het Amsterdamse Patta Soundsystem. Het creatieve collectief SMIB, dat vanaf zijn begin nauw aan Appelsap verbonden is, krijgt voor het eerst een area waar de Amsterdammers hun eigen vibe creëren met artiesten, dj s en kunstenaars. Ook komt er een speciale capsulecollectie uit van hun kledinglabel Sumibu. Om de band van Appelsap met Amsterdam te verankeren, wordt tijdens het festival een permanente, 3 meter grote sculptuur van de kunstenaar Parra onthuld. Enkele van de laatste namen die zich op zaterdag 11 augustus bij de line-up van Appelsap voegen zijn DJ Deeon (US), Josylvio, slowthai (UK), DJ Maximum (UK), Yussef Dayes (UK), Wiki (US), LYZZA en Waxfiend. Appelsap bestaat dit jaar 18 jaar en is dus officieel volwassen. Een hele generatie is opgegroeid met het festival. Daarom brengt Appelsap dit jaar een hommage aan hiphop. De nieuwe generatie mc s en dj s op het festival kruipen in de huid van hun helden en brengen daarmee een ode aan de hiphopgeschiedenis. Zo zien we in de campagne o.a. Leafs (50 Cent), Ray Fuego (KRS-One), SMIB (N.W.A), Bubbles (Lil Kim), Idaly (Eminem), Jacin Trill (Outkast en A$AP Rocky), 808 Milli (Outkast), Poke (Dizzee Rascal), Mairo Nawaz (Chief Keef & Travis Scott), Fosa YG & Loopey (EPMD), Amy Becker (Missy Elliott) en Momi (2Pac). OVER APPELSAP FESTIVAL Appelsap Fresh Music Festival 2018 Saturday August 11 Flevopark Amsterdam Appelsap Fresh Music Festival brings world-class Hiphop, R&B, electronic music and Dutch talent to Amsterdam. Since starting out as a free block jam back in 2000, Appelsap has grown into the groundbreaking festival it is today. Its line-up ranges from local talent to the elite of world-class Hiphop, Soul, R&B and progressive electronic music. Despite the festival s continuing growth, the convivial atmosphere is still as tangible as it was during the early block jam days. Besides fresh music, there is a wide range of international cuisine and activities for kids (who can get in for free under 12). Appelsap is famous for introducing the latest in US Hiphop and UK Bass DJ s to a Dutch Crowd.
