At their upper end, the columns are fully clamped with the floor, and at their lower end they are connected with the ground through a hinge. The dynamic motion of the system is described by the horizontal response x 1 (t) of the floor. a) Sketch the equivalent discrete model of the structure, with the model parameters being expressed in terms of the structural parameters given in Figure 1, and derive the equation of motion from the requirement of conservation of total energy, de tot ( t) / dt 0. b) Derive the response of the system to the initial conditions x 1(0) 0 and x 1 ( 0) v0. 4 Question 2 (3.0 points) Figure 2 shows a system composed of two masses M, two infinitely stiff, massless beams, a spring with stiffness 4k and a dashpot with damping c. The system is connected with a hinge at point A, and is further subjected to a harmonic loading F( t) Fˆ cos t. The rotation (t) about point A remains small ( 0 ( t ) / 2 ), and is measured with respect to the static equilibrium position of the system. a) Draw the free-body diagrams of the individual subsystems. Derive the equation of motion of the system in terms of the rotation (t) at point A. b) Derive the steady-state response of the system due to the harmonic loading F(t). c) Derive the total response of the system assuming the initial conditions are given by 0 0 ( 0) and ( 0). 5 Question 3 (1.5 points) Figure 3 shows a mass-spring-damper system, which at t=0 is subjected to an impulse loading F( t) Pˆ ( t), where Pˆ is the magnitude of the impulse and (t) represents the Dirac delta function. The system is critically damped. Derive the response x(t) of the system, assuming the initial conditions are zero. The derivation method can be chosen freely. 6 Question 4 (2.5 points) Figure 4 shows a system composed of two disks with mass moment of inertia J, and two massless rods with shear stiffness G, polar moment of inertia I p, and length L. The system is fully clamped at the bottom. The rotation of the lower and upper disks are 1 (t) and 2 (t), respectively. a) Draw the free-body diagrams of the subsystems, and derive the equations of motion of the system. Formulate the equations of motion in matrix-vector format. b) Compute the eigen frequencies and the eigen vectors of the system. 0 c) Derive the response of the system due to the initial conditions 1(0) 0, 1 ( 0) 1, 2(0) 0 and 2(0) 0. Aan de bovenkant zijn de kollommen volledig ingeklemd met de vloer, en aan de onderkant zijn ze verbonden met de grond door middel van een scharnier. De dynamische beweging van het systeem wordt beschreven door de horizontale responsie x 1 (t) van de vloer. a) Schets het equivalent discrete model van de constructie, waarbij de modelparameters worden uitgedrukt in de systeemparameters die zijn gegeven in figuur 1, en leid de bewegingsvergelijking af vanuit de conditie van behoud van totale energie, de tot ( t) / dt 0. b) Leid de responsie van het systeem af voor de begincondities x 1(0) 0 and x 1 ( 0) v0. 8 Vraag 2 (3.0 punten) Figuur 2 laat een systeem zien dat is samengesteld uit twee massa s M, twee oneindigstijve, massaloze balken, een veer met stijfheid 4k en een demper met c. Het systeem is verbonden aan een scharnier op punt A, en is verder onderworpen aan een harmonische belasting F( t) Fˆ cos t. De rotatie (t) om punt A blijft relatief klein ( 0 ( t ) / 2 ), en is gemeten met betrekking tot de statische evenwichtstoestand van het systeem. a) Teken de vrije-lichaams-diagrammen van de individuele subsystemen. Leid de bewegingsvergelijking van het systeem af in termen van de rotatie (t) om punt A. b) Leid de steady-state responsie van het systeem af ten gevolge van de harmonische belasting F(t). c) Leid de totale responsie van het systeem af onder de aanname dat de 0 0 begincondities zijn gegeven door ( 0) and ( 0). Onderin is het systeem volledig ingeklemd. De rotaties van de onderste en bovenste schijf zijn respectievelijk gelijk aan 1 (t) and 2 (t). a) Schets de vrije-lichaamsdiagrammen van de subsystemen, en leid de bewegingsvergelijking van het systeem af.
