As indicated in the figure, the rod is composed of three parts with a length L, a shear stiffness G (i) and a polar moment of inertia I p (i), where i=1,2,3. The rod is fully clamped at the bottom. 4 Question 2 (2.5 points) Figure 2 shows a system of a mass m that is connected to a spring with stiffness k and a dashpot with a damping c. The connection between the mass and the dashpot occurs by means of an infinitely stiff rope that is loaded under tension and is guided around a pulley. The mass moment of inertia of the pulley is J, and the radius is r. The mass is subjected to an external force F(t) = F 0 sint, with F 0 the amplitude of the harmonic loading and the angular frequency. The horizontal displacement of the mass is x(t) and the rotation of the pulley is (t) It may be assumed that the rotation remains small, such that sin tan, and cos 1. a) Draw the free-body diagrams of the individual subsystems. 6 Question 4 (2.5 points) Figure 4 shows a basic model of a car riding on a horizontal terrain with a bump., The car has a mass M, and a mass moment of inertia J=Ma 2 (measured with respect to the center of gravity (c.g.)). The vertical displacement of the center of gravity is x 1 (t), and the rotation is (t) (measured with respect to the position of static equilibrium). The total stiffness at the front wheels is equal to k and the total stiffness at the rear wheels is 2k. The distance between the front wheels and the center of gravity is a, and the distance between the rear wheels and the center of gravity is 2a. When the car reaches the bump, the front wheels are subjected to a displacement excitation x ˆ 2 ( t) X 2 ( t), where ˆX is the magnitude of the displacement pulse, and ) 2 (t is the Dirac delta function. a) Derive the equations of motion for the system depicted in Figure 4, and formulate these in matrix-vector format. b) Compute the eigen frequencies and eigen vectors of the system. c) In order to compute the response of the car after the front wheels have hit the bump, the bump loading must be expressed in corresponding initial conditions. Formulate these initial conditions, and derive the set of equations that is needed for determining the response of the system (you are not asked to solve this set of equations!). Zoals aangegeven in de figuur is de staaf samengsteld uit 3 delen met een lengte L, een afschuifstijfheid G (i) en een polair traagheidsmoment I (i) p, waarbij i=1,2,3. De staaf is volledig ingeklemd aan het benedeneinde. 8 Vraag 2 (2.5 punten) Figuur 2 laat een systeem zien waarbij een massa m is verbonden aan een veer met veerstijfheid k en een demper met demping c. De verbinding tussen de massa en de demper geschiedt door middel van een oneindig-stijve kabel die is belast onder trek en wordt geleid om een katrol. Het massatraagheidsmoment van de katrol is J, en de straal is r. De massa wordt onderworpen aan een externe belasting F(t) = F 0 sint, met F 0 de amplitude van de harmonische belasting en de hoekfrequentie. 10 Vraag 4 (2.5 punten) Figuur 4 laat een eenvoudig model zien van een auto die rijdt over een horizontaal terrein met een hobbel. De auto heeft een massa M en een massatraagheidsmoment J=Ma 2 (gemeten ten opzichte van het zwaartekrachtscentrum (z.c.)). De verticale verplaatsing van het zwaartekrachtscentrum is x 1 (t), en de rotatie is (t) (gemeten ten opzichte van de positie van statisch evenwicht). De totale veerstijfheid ter plaatse van de voorwielen is k en de totale veerstijfheid ter plaatse van de achterwielen is 2k. De afstand tussen de voorwielen en het zwaartekrachtscentrum is a, en de afstand tussen de achterwielen en het zwaartekrachtscentrum is 2a. Wanneer de auto de hobbel bereikt worden de voorwielen onderworpen aan een verplaatsingsexitatie x ˆ 2 ( t) X 2 ( t), waarbij de grootte van de verplaatsingspuls gelijk is aan ˆX 2 en (t) de Dirac delta functie representeert. a) Leid de bewegingsvergelijkingen af voor het systeem afgebeeld in Figuur 4, en formuleer deze in matrix-vector format. b) Bereken de eigen frequenties en de eigen vectoren van het systeem. c) Om de responsie van de auto te berekenen op het moment dat de voorwielen tegen de hobbel botsen, moet de hobbelbelasting worden uitgedrukt in corresponderende beginvoorwaarden. Formuleer deze beginvoorwaarden, en leid vervolgens de set van vergelijkingen af die nodig is om de responsie van het systeem te bepalen (er wordt niet gevraagd om deze set van vergelijkingen op te lossen!).
