Stams is full professor of forensic child and youth care sciences at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, former chair of the accreditation committee for child and youth care interventions in the Netherlands, and staff member of the Institute for the Study of Education and Human Development (ISED). He has conducted meta-analyses, longitudinal research and intervention studies in the area of socio-emotional development and juvenile delinquency. Important research topics are parent child relationship quality (e.g., attachment), moral development, juvenile delinquency, developmental psychopathology, and effectiveness of child and youth care interventions. Current research by Dr. Stams primarily focuses on (forensic) youth interventions conducted under clinically representative conditions, and the development and validation of clinical assessment instruments. 1
