Download Download Object gegevens Objectcategorie schilderij Drager/materiaal paneel (eikenhout), olieverf Vorm/maten staand ovaal 69,6 x 53,3 cm Traces of straight bevelling on the back of the panel led the members of the RRP to believe that this painting was originally rectangular (Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings 1982-, vol. 2 (1986), no. A 75). Somewhere before 1893 the painting was transformed into an oval shape. After 1923 the new owner of the painting had it made into a rectangle again by inlaying the painting into an old panel. At first the parts of this newly added panel were painted black. During a restoration in 1999 the black paint was removed making the underlying painted surface visible (Rutgers/Rijnders 2014, p. 224-225). This painting was recently identified as a painting by a follower of Marten van Cleve I (Weber 2011, p. 73).
