1 Message from Lorraine Janet Dean Director HSV International Department and Frans de Jong Director of the Dutch Department The atmosphere in our schools is currently one of excited anticipation as we await the arrival of two men in red who visit us during the month of December. This week on Thursday we saw the arrival of Sinterklaas. This year we are printing a full colour HSV International and Dutch department calendar. This has been developed by our photography and marketing students from Wolverhampton University. They are priced at 5 euros. If you are interested in buying a copy please return your order form. There are a few remaining. We finally received the DvDs of the ID6 production. We hope that you have enjoyed watching them. We would like to thank all that staff and parents who donate their time to arrange things during the festive season. Your help is really appreciated. HSV pupils have also been helping others less fortunate than ourselves. Please read about the success of this year s shoebox appeal below. As it gets colder outside and the nights get longer we have lots of events to look forward to. We are all looking forward to various events including our concerts and Festive Dinner during the last week of term. Beste ouders, verzorgers, De sfeer in de school voelde al wat spannend aan. Alle kinderen zijn in de ban van de twee mannen in het rood. Sinterklaas heeft ons op donderdagmorgen al met een bezoek vereerd. Dat betekent voor ons dat volgende week maandag we gaan ombouwen naar de kerstsfeer, zodat we ons kunnen opmaken voor dat feest. De OuderActiviteitenCommissie heeft er samen met andere vrijwilligers voor gezorgd dat het gebouw helemaal in de juiste sferen is gebracht. Zij zullen ook weer voor u klaar staan bij het kerstdiner voor een hapje en een drankje. Hartelijk dank! Dit jaar hebben we een full colour kalender ontworpen. Deze kalender voor 2014 is gemaakt door de studenten van de Wolverhampton University. Ze kosten 5 per stuk. Als u interesse heeft vult u dan het formulier in dat is bijgevoegd. Onze actie schoenendoos is weer een succes. Veel kinderen/gezinnen hebben hier belangeloos aan meegewerkt. Wij kijken allen uit naar de spannende gezellige maar waarschijnlijk ook koude dagen die de maand december ons zal brengen. Alvast veel plezier gewenst. The term ends on Friday 20 th December. 2 Shoebox Appeal The shoeboxes were delivered to Edukans on Tuesday, 19th November. We are more than pleased to tell you that, across HSV, families donated 298 shoeboxes as well as 1511 which will go towards shipping costs. This total includes both cash donations and donations via bank transfer. The amount of money donated towards shipping costs is more than double that of We are very proud to have such generous families as part of our school community and we thank all families who contributed to the Shoebox Appeal. Kerstdiner Het kerstdiner zal plaatsvinden op donderdag 19 december van tot Let u op de berichten van de leerkrachten. Staffing News Ms. Dieuwke s maternity leave has begun. During her absence we are please to welcome two music teachers to the team. Stefanie Beekmans will work on Mondays and Anouk Vinders on Thursdays as the music teacher at NSL. Ms. Merit will continue to work on Wednesdays at NSL. Personeel Juffrouw Dieuwke, muziek, is met zwangerschapsverlof. Zij zal worden vervangen door juffrouw Stefanie Beekmans op de maandag en door juffrouw Anouk Vinders op de donderdag. Op de woensdag blijft het vertrouwde gezicht van juffrouw Merit. Juffrouw Petra, groep 3, is inmiddels ook met zwangerschapsverlof, zij wordt vervangen door juffrouw Ellenoor Tinselboer. Secondary School Transfer for ID6 Pupils in The Hague A big thank you to all the parents that came to the Secondary Schools Information Evening. There were presentations from International School of The Hague, Het Rijnlands Lyceum in Oestgeest and the new secondary department of the European School of The Hague. 3 NSL Nieuws NSL News Nieuws van de Ouder Activiteiten Commissie (OAC) De OAC is altijd op zoek naar ouders die het leuk vinden om een steentje bij te dragen aan de activiteiten die we organiseren voor de kinderen, zeker in drukke tijden zoals deze decembermaand. In dit verband hebben de klassenouders eerder deze week namens de OAC een mail rondgestuurd aan iedereen, waarbij ouders kunnen aangeven of ze bij een van de decemberactiviteiten van de OAC willen helpen. Bij voorbaat dank aan de ouders die zich hiervoor hebben aangemeld, of die dit binnenkort nog gaan doen! Jeannie Brenne en Brenda Hoogenraad hebben de OAC inmiddels verlaten. Zij hebben zich enorm ingezet voor de OAC, heel veel dank dames! De OAC bestaat nu uit de volgende ouders; Vanuit de Nederlandse afdeling; Milou Kuiken (voorzitter), David Brounts (penningmeester), Anja Figee, Mireille Rost Onnes en Marnie Vorderman Vanuit de International Department (ID): Adam Waters, Patricia Ribeiro de Lyra en Mirna Cieniewicz. Ouders die geïnteresseerd zijn om eens een tijdje in de OAC zelf mee te draaien kunnen dit overigens ook altijd kenbaar maken bij een van de OAC leden, zodat zij dit weten wanneer er weer nieuwe OACleden worden gezocht. News from the Parent Activity Committee ('OAC') The OAC is always looking for parents who would like to help out with some of the activities that we organise for the kids, especially in busy times like this month of December. To this end, the class parents sent out an to all the parents earlier this week on behalf of the OAC, in which parents can indicate if they would like to help out at one of the December activities. A big thanks in advance to the parents that have already signed up for this or are that are going to do so soon! Jeannie Brenne and Brenda Hoogenraad have left the OAC. They put in a lot of time and effort for the OAC, so a big thanks to you ladies! The OAC now consists of the following parents; From the Dutch Department (NA): Milou Kuiken (chair), David Brounts (accountant), Anja Figee, Mireille Rost Onnes and Marnie Vorderman From the International Department: Adam Waters, Patricia Ribeiro de Lyra and Mirna Cieniewicz. Parents that are interested in joining the OAC itself are always welcome to indicate this to one of the OAC members, so they can keep this into account when they need new members for the OAC. Speelplein Een enthousiaste groep ouders uit beide afdelingen is met allerlei plannen en ideeën in de weer om ons plein aan te pakken. We gaan een aanvraag doen bij Fonds 1818 en een deel van het benodigde geld komt uit eigen budget. Hoe het er precies gaat uitzien dat weten we nog niet. Heeft u zelf ideeën of suggesties? School Playground A very enthusiastic group of parents from both the ID and NA departments have come together to make and carry out concrete plans to improve the playground at NSL. A request for funding from Funds 1818 has been made and part of the necessary money will come from our own budget. We have not yet agreed exactrly on the changes to be made. 4 Lead up to Sinterklaas celebration What a wonderful Sinterklaas celebration we have had at school. The run up was also spectacular with loads of fun for the children and incredible integration. Pupils from IDR/NA1 to ID3/NA4 had a Creative Morning and an Activity morning on Wednesday. All the children were busy with fun activities in mixed groups. Then school singing of Sint songs. Sinterklaas morning Sinterklaas slept overnight in a van in our school playground. He was a bit sad as his Pieten were nowhere to be seen. Not for long! Lo and behold two of his Pieten abseiled down the front of the school building to the delight of all the onlookers. Then Sint continued to do his tour of the younger pupils to the delight of the children. A huge thank you to all concerned with the organisation of this great party!!! Sinterklaas In de weken voorafgaand aan dit feest zijn de kinderen druk in de weer geweest. Vele activiteiten werden er ondernomen met veel integratie momenten. Op 5 december kwam de Sint met zijn Pieten gelukkig ons ook bezoeken. Maar dat ging niet zonder slag of stoot. Sint was zijn Pieten kwijtgeraakt en was bang om te laat te komen. Daarom sliep hij in een busje op het schoolplein. Zijn Pieten bleken al in school te zijn. Er waren er zelfs twee die met touwen van af het dak naar beneden kwamen. Geweldig!!! Uiteraard heeft de Sint met zijn gevolg ook alle groepen bezocht. Een woord van grote dank aan alle mensen, ouder, leerkrachten, die dit fantastische feest hebben mogelijk gemaakt!!!!! Christmas We are looking forward to the next celebration and are well under way with the preparations. Christmas Concert, Kerstconcerten; You are welcome to attend our Christmas Concerts this school year. As always they will take place in the gym: Wij verwelkomen u weer op school om, in een tot theater omgetoverde gymzaal, te kijken naar een optreden van de klassen: Monday 16 th December: 9.00: IDR, ID1, NA1a, NA1b, NA2 Tuesday 17 th December: 8.45: ID6, NA7 and NA8 Wednesday 18 th December: 9.00: ID2, ID3, NA3, NA4 Thursday 19 th December: 8.45: ID4, ID5, NA5, NA6 Christmas Dinner, Kerstdiner Our annual festive dinner this year will be on Thursday 21st December. This is a special occasion for all the children, who should return to school at The dinner will be finished at 6:45. Parents are welcome to gather in the gym for some refreshments while children are enjoying their festive meal. Ons jaarlijkse kerstdiner zal plaatsvinden op donderdag 21 december. We beginnen om en het einde staat gepland om Ouders, verzorgers zijn van harte uitgenodigd om met elkaar in de gymzaal een glas te heffen.

5 OAC, OuderActiviteitenCommissie A huge thank you to the OAC (Parent Activity Commission) without whose involvement and input none of these spectacular events would be possible. Their commitment is amazing. Ik wil hierbij een geweldig woord van dank uitspreken voor de mensen van de OAC die er ook dit jaar weer voor hebben gezorgd dat de feesten spectaculair zijn verlopen. Ook wil ik alle andere ouders, verzorgers danken voor hun inzet de afgelopen maanden. Zonder jullie hulp kunnen we op school vele zaken niet laten plaatsvinden. Thank you to Parent helpers We would like to extend a huge thank you to all parents who help with the library, reading, covering books and many other activities which enrich the school lives of the pupils at NSL.
