1 Newsletter July 2016 Nieuwsbrief juli 2016 Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome our last newsletter of the school year. It was lovely to see so many of you at our Zomerfeests on Friday and Saturday. Once again this year we were very lucky with the weather. We have a lovely end of the year planned for the children with lots of fun events and special outings. Our nominated Charity this year has been the RED Cross. Our sponsorloop in May raised the grand total of euros! Thank you for your generosity. The grand total will be even more as there have been other fundraising events across the locations. A charity update is included in this newsletter. Please remember school closes at 12:30 on Friday July 8th and reopens on Monday August 22 nd at the usual time. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday with lots of fun and safe travels! Beste ouders, verzorgers, Hierbij de laatste nieuwsbrief van het jaar. Het was erg leuk om zovelen van u te zien op ons zomerfeest. Het weer was natuurlijk ook fantastisch. In deze laatste weken hadden we nog al wat uitstapjes gepland voor de kinderen, het weer zat hierbij niet altijd mee. Ons goede doel dit jaar was het Rode Kruis. De sponsorloop in mei heeft in totaal over alle locaties bijeen gebracht. Dank u voor deze gulle bijdragen. Het totale bedrag zal nog wat hoger uitkomen als ook de bijdragen van verschillende lokale activiteiten erbij worden geteld. De allerlaatste week staan ook nog verschillende activiteiten gepland. De laatste schooldag is vrijdag 8 juli, we eindigen om U bent allen van harte uitgenodigd bij het aftellen naar de vakantie om op het plein. We have had a resignation from Emma Van Dobben our music teacher at NSL. She is leaving to study in Hungary. We have informed you of resignations as we have known of them. A reminder of the staff that are leaving: Eric Stins ICT coordinator Catie Heemskerk EAL teacher Mark Davis Mathieu Bowman Erin Oosterbroek We have some new staff joining us after the holiday and we expect to be recruiting over the summer holiday too. You will be notified of new staff in our July staffing letter which will come out shortly. Personeel Aan het eind van dit schooljaar gaan we afscheid nemen van Eric Stins, leerkracht en ICT coördinator en van Emma van Dobben, onze muziekvakleerkracht. Sports Days We have had two sports days our two sports days at the HDM. As always there was good cooperation and team work. We experienced a little rain at the sports day for the older children, but for the second one the weather was perfect; dry but not too hot. The children really enjoyed themselves. An especially big thank you to our team of gym teachers for organising such a great range of activities.

2 Sportdagen Onze twee sportdagen werden gehouden op de velden van HDM. Zoals altijd was er een goede sfeer van samenwerking en teamwork. Bij de eerste dag met de oudste kinderen regende het nog iets, maar bij de tweede dag was het perfect weer, niet te warm en niet te koud. Een woord van dank aan de uitstekende organisatie door ons team van vakleerkrachten. ID6 Events Last week saw our ID6 Leavers productions and exhibitions. The exhibitions celebrated the work of Roald Dahl at VNS, William Shakespeare at NSL and Louis Carrol s Alice in Wonderland at KSS. The children worked hard, learned a lot and presented a wonderful exhibition and performance. On Monday July 4 th the ID6 children go on their leaver s outing to Efteling and their leavers assemblies are planned for the last two days of term. Groep 8 musical Voor onze groep 8 staat echt het allerlaatste te gebeuren. Afscheid nemen van de basisschool. Traditiegetrouw doen ze dit met een musical. Deze wordt opgevoerd voor hun ouders en familie op dinsdagavond. School Camp ID6 and NA7 Next Year s ID6 and NA7 will go on school camp Tuesday September 27th until Friday September 30th Schoolkamp NA& en ID6 Aan het begin van volgend schooljaar gaan de groepen ID6 en NA7 gezamenlijk op kamp naar Gorssel. We gaan er naar toe van dinsdag 27 sept t/m vrijdag 30 sept. School Reports You received your child s school report on Friday July 1 st. Please take the opportunity to make a written comment on your child s report. Could you please ensure that you return the response to your child s class teacher by Wednesday July 8 th so all our administrative tasks can be completed by the end of the year. Charity At the HSV the children select a charity to support for two years. This year was our first year of supporting the Red cross. As you read in our previous newsletter, our sponsor loop raised the grand figure of This was our biggest fundraising event this year. It is wonderful to see the children really do their best to raise money for a good cause. Thank you to all families for your very generous donations throughout the school year. We have held a variety of charity events this year across all locations, some of these included silly face competitions, cake sales, movie afternoons, crazy hair day, jumper days, secondhand clothes sales, and many more. The grand total raised across the three locations this year for all of the combined charity events was a whopping 8310!

3 Goede doel De kinderen van de HSV hebben een goed doel voor twee jaar gekozen. Dit was het eerste jaar van het Rode Kruis. Zoals u hierboven heft gelezen bracht de sponsorloop bijeen. Dit was onze grote actie. Dank aan iedereen die hieraan heft bijgedragen. Op de verschillende locaties zijn nog enkele kleinere acties gehouden zoals, cake sales, crazy hair day, 2e hands kleding verkoop ed. Total hebben alle actie een geweldig bedrag van 8310,- opgebracht. Geweldig! School Closures and Holidays Monday 11th July Friday 19th August SCHOOL CLOSED SUMMER HOLIDAY Zomervakantie Maandag 11 juli tot en met vrijdag 19 augustus. Dates for Next School Year School begins for children in ID1-ID6, NA1-NA8 Monday August 22 nd IDR children will receive home visits the week beginning Monday August 22 nd and start school on Monday August 29 th. On Thursday 1 st September at 18:30 there will be an Information Evening for Parents with your child s new class teacher. You will also get the chance to meet the support and specialist teachers. On Friday 9 th September we would like to end the week with a repeat of the International Fair that we held last year. We will ask everyone to bring along typical food from their country to share. Further details will follow. It will be a lovely way to end the week. On Thursday 22 nd September is Walk to School Day (Schoolbrengdag) (Please make arrangements to walk all or part of the way to school on this day). The children will receive badges the day before as a reminder to participate in the event. On Tuesday 20 th September Prinsjesdag/ Prince s Day holiday will be celebrated. From Tuesday 27 th to Friday 30 th September, ID6 and NA7 children will be on school camp. From Saturday 15 th to Sunday 23 rd October (during the October holiday), it s EU coding week. During the week starting on Monday October 10 th, Kinderboeken Week - Children s Book week - will focus on the theme of opa s en oma s (grandfathers and grandmothers). For this special week we would like to extend a warm welcome to grandparents who wish to participate in the number of book readings that will take place around the school. It will be a very special occasion indeed for children with grandparents planning a visit during this time. Data voor komend jaar We beginnen op maandag 22 augustus Donderdag 01 september is de informatieavond in de klas van uw kind. Ook de vakleerkrachten zijn er voor u. Vrijdag 09 september herhalen we de International Fair. De kans om te laten zien wat uw land kan betekenen voor een ieder. Donderdag 22 september is de landelijke Schoolbrengdag. De kinderen ontvangen weer de badge ter herinnering. Vrijdag 20 september is Prinsjesdag, alle kinderen vrij. Van dinsdag 27 sept. t/m vrijdag 30 september Schoolkamp voor ID6 en NA7 Van zaterdag 15 oktober t/m zondag 23 oktober, gedurende de herfstvakantie, is het EU programmeerweek. De week van maandag 10 oktober is het Kinderboekenweek. Het thema is : Opa s en oma s We nodigen alle opa s en oma s uit om in deze week op enige wijze op school iets te doen met lezen of boeken.

5 MR voor de Nieuwsbrief Verkeersveiligheid In de MR vergadering in juni is uitgebreid gesproken over de verkeerssituatie rond de school bij het brengen en halen van de kinderen. Op alle drie locaties van de HSV ontstaan ZEER onveilige situaties voor fietsende kinderen doordat auto s vlak voor de school inparkeren, uit parkeren, draaien, half op de stoep staan of op de gereserveerde plekken voor HSV personeel parkeren. De MR bereidt in samenwerking met de schoolleiding een campagne voor om ouders te ontmoedigen te dicht bij de school te parkeren en (bij KSS en VNS) te parkeren op voor HSV personeel gereserveerde parkeerplekken. In een later stadium zullen kinderen op school flyers maken waarop ouders wordt verzocht voor en na schooltijd niet dichtbij de school te rijden of te parkeren. Oproep voor vrijwilligers: De MR zoekt vrijwilligers die tijdens de eerste schoolweek na de vakantie onder begeleiding van de schoolleiding met een verkeersvest om 8:15 en/of 14:45 een kwartiertje willen helpen met het uitdelen van flyers en het wijzen op alternatieve stopplaatsen. Vrijwilligers wordt verzocht nog VOOR de zomervakantie begint, een te sturen naar mr@hsvdenhaag.nl. Vacature: Binnenkort treedt een van de MR leden van de Nederlandse Afdeling af. Na de vakantie zal de MR dus verkiezingen houden voor een nieuwe vertegenwoordiger van de NA. During the June MR meeting traffic problems which have arisen due to parents parking their cars inappropriately were discussed at length. In many cases the safety of our children on bikes was compromised and in others teachers were inconvenienced. Incidents of accidents which almost happened have been reported at all three HSV locations because of parents parking too close to the school entrance or on the pavement or in the parking spaces reserved for HSV staff. In order to make parents aware of their dangerous behaviour, and of alternative parking spaces, the MR decided, together with the school authorities, to start a campaign straight after the Summer holiday. At a later stage children will make flyers at school to be handed out to parents explaining how they (the parents!) can play a role in improving traffic safety around the school. Call for volunteers: The MR needs volunteers from the parents to help supervise school traffic together with the location leaders during the first week of the new school year. Volunteers will receive fluorescent jackets and will stand halfway down the street at 8:15 and 14:45.
