2 Preface All functions and keys on the set are software defined. Since the set is software driven it will behave like that. Sometimes a reset of a single channel or a complete bank of channels can be necessary. This might occur mainly after making changes in channels. If the set goes completely bananas a total hard reset can do the job. Frequencies in ROM are preserved obviously. The software is version a. Since there are several implementations of the StrayCat software this manual is adapted to the software version for the PI4GN project. In ROM there will be frequencies in the range of MHz. The internet has a lot of info about the CQM6000. These sites will provide you with the factory manuals, 3 rd party software and a forum including the CQM for factory manuals (set of 5) and other software. Storno forum with lots of info. Technical manual, good info. About the software The set basically works on a 12.5 KHz grid. The program has two arrays of channels in ROM, 100 channels each and both numbered Switching between channel arrays is performed by clicking the key "Mode selector" and then "A". The seperators / and indicate the current array. With a hex-editor you can modify the software and manually enter the desired frequencies into an array before blowing the ROM, maintaining exactly the used records format. The recording format of the channel arrays is simple and straightforward. The format per channel is 12 digits: first 6 digits RX, last 6 digits TX. The first channel array starts at offset 4000h and the second at offset 4800h. To avoid confusion, it is recommended not to change the channels numbers in the records. Each channel array in ROM has a corresponding array in size in RAM (initially empty). Changed frequencies are stored into RAM, in the corresponding channel projection. The program detects the presence of the channel in RAM memory and will use this in the first place. If the channel entry in RAM is corrupted, damaged or indicates invalid info, you need to clean this area of RAM. See channel, bank and total software reset. If the set is operated without the EPROM with the software, you will hear FM noise directly. No key will function and the display is off. It s all about the software! The main modes of operation of the program: Mode 0 Mode 1 Mode 2 Mode 3 Receive/transmit on split frequency, channel scanning at reception. This is the basic mode of operation of the program, the program enters into it at startup. Set the channel number. The program goes into this intermittent operation by pressing the "CH" and at the end returns to mode 0. Enter frequency for RX/TX by channel. The program goes into this intermittent operation by pressing the "Queue" key and at the end returns to mode 0. Receive/transmit at the current frequency, the frequency scanning in the interval. The program goes into this mode by pressing and at the end returns to mode 0.

3 Switching to mode 3: To enter this mode, press. The indicator will show the current channel number, the receive frequency (=transmission frequency) and two digits to the right of the display - the current frequency step. The frequency step is selected in this mode by clicking the Mode selector. Possible choices - 12, 25, 50 KHz (12 = 12.5 KHz). The frequency step is stored in the memory. To exit from mode 3 press the again. When you exit from mode 3, the current channel will rewrite in the appropriate area of the RAM, even if nothing has changed. The scan sub-mode: The scan sub-mode is entered/left by pressing the S key and is working in modes 0 and 3. The scan sub-mode has its own indicator - LED "Scanning indicator". In the scan sub-mode, the keys "Volume up" and "Volume down" are used to increase/decrease the number of the current channel (mode 0) or frequency (mode 3). In the scan sub-mode, the A key starts/stops the automatic channel scan (mode 0) or scan in the frequency interval (mode 3). The Scan indicator will flash, pointing to the automatic scanning. Before starting the automatic scan, be sure that you have set the starting and ending channels or the starting and ending frequency. If the starting and ending channels have been set before, setting them again is not necessary - when you turn off the radio starting and ending channels are stored in memory. Each array of the channels has the ability to set their own the starting and ending channel for a scan. Channel scan: Upon detection of activity at a channel during the automatic channel scan, the program holds for a 10 seconds (maximum), giving the opportunity to make a decision about the channel. Frequency scan: when scanning frequencies, the delay is set to 5 seconds. If the frequency scan will be interrupted, the current frequency will be taken for a new beginning or the new ending of the scan (if the current frequency will be higher then the ending frequency after setting). The Selective Call mode: (work in mode 0) The main purpose of Selective Call is to open squelch only when receiving the correct ID number. When this occurs, the "Car horn" key will be open for 1 second. The channel will be closed at the end of the carrier. Selective Call mode is switched on/off by pressing the Bell ( External alarm on/off ) and has its own indicator LED: Bell (External alarm). This option works fine on radio with old type of control board with main DIP chips and bad on the radio with new type of control board with main SMD chips. Probably the new DSP firmware OKI M77C20A are slightly different from the old one. To configure this mode: 1. When Selective Call mode is OFF, click the "Mode selector" and then press key Bell (this state holds for 5 seconds without pressing any key). You will see a string, for example: "12345 CCIR", where: "12345" - is the Selective Call ID number of your radio. You can change it by typing a new number from the keyboard. CCIR - is codec name. Type of the codec is selected by successive pressing of the Bell key. Keys used in this mode: 0-9 For typing the ID number. Bell To select the codec. Queue To exit from this mode. CL To backspace in editing. 2. When in the Selective Call mode, click the Mode selector then press the key Bell (this state is set on 5 seconds without pressing any key). You will see the next string, for example: ABC, where: is the tone-coded squelch flag. When it is ON - is set, your sound channel will be open only after getting right ID

4 number! This flag is switched by pressing Call Transmitter key - tone key and works only in Selective Call mode. 1 Is the number of the string Is a string with the ID number of your radio. The string is selected by successive pressing the Bell key. In total there are 9 strings, and you can change the ID numbers by typing a new ID number from the keyboard. + Is the flag. Its purpose - add or not a message to the receiver ID number. 12ABC Is the message, to be sent to your opponent. The message can contain: 0-9,A,B,C,D. Total size is 5 digits. Keys, used in this mode: 0-9 For typing the number and "0-9,A,B,C,D" - for typing the message. Bell To select the string. A To switch on/off the "+" flag. Tone To switch on/off the " " flag. # The PTT analog key to send the Selective Call direct from that mode. To switch between string numbers and message editing. Queue To exit from this mode. CL To backspace in editing. The message that you sent to your opponent will be stored in the memory of his radio. Accordingly the message that will be send to you will be stored in the memory of your radio. There are only 8 messages to be stored in the memory. To read the messages stored in the memory of your radio, set the Selective Call mode, click the Mode selector then click the Bell key and finally click the S key (this state holds for 20 seconds without pressing any key). You will see the next string, for example: 1 12ABC where: 1 The number of message, 12ABC The message. Use Volume down and Volume up keys to navigate between messages. Second pressing a key S will lead to exit from this mode. Queue can also be used to exit from this mode. Keys may have another function as stated!

5 Control box keys from left to right and up and their functions: On/Off Speaker On/off key for the transceiver. Press for three seconds for a total reset of the software. Then turn set on again. On/off key for the audio amplifier Volume down In usual mode to decrease the audio. With beep. With designated minimum level. In scan mode to go down by the channels or the frequency. In the Selective Call mode to navigate between the messages. Volume up In usual mode increase the audio. With beep. In hand-scan mode to go up by the channels or the frequency. In the Selective Call mode to navigate between the messages. CH then Volume down To set the 1 st channel of the channel scan (first set channel with CH!). See scanning. CH then Volume up To set last channel of the channel scan (first set channel with CH!). See scanning. Mode selector then Volume down To set low transmitting power. With display indication. Mode selector then Volume up To set nominal (full) transmitting power. With display indication. S CH Entering/ending the scan sub-mode. The scan indicator will light up. Scan sub-mode allows to scan the channels or the frequency by hand or in automatic mode. To scan by hand press Volume up/volume down for scan up/down the channels or the frequencies. To automatic scan press A to start/stop scan (scan indicator will start flashing). After entering 2 figures for the channel number the set will switch to that channel. CH then Volume down To set the start channel for the channel scan. First select a channel with CH. CH then Volume up To set the last channel for the channel scan. First select a channel with CH. CH then CL CL To unfix the CTCSS tone from the current channel. Clearing key basically. Functions: Disable/enable squelch (will be reset at scanning). Backspace in editing and during inserting frequencies. Set/reset program squelch bypass flag Queue then CL Will reset current channel to the ROM settings (clearing current channel in RAM memory). Mode Selector + CL Press simultaneously to reset all channels in the current memory bank to the ROM settings (clearing the memory bank in RAM). Be aware: NO WARNING. Queue Frequency insert mode. Press Queue and enter the frequency from numeric keypad. Use CL to backspace at insertion. Attention: a frequency has 5 digits; the 6 th digit will always be a 0 or a 5 and is skipped. The frequency is automatically stored in the current channel. All inserted frequencies are checked to frequency range and channel step (12.5 KHz for all radios). Therefore: a frequency (when manually entered) has 5 digits; the 6 th digit on the display will always be a 0 or a 5 and is automatically skipped.

6 Entering/ending simplex mode. The display will show the channel number, the frequency and the channel spacing: 12.5, 25 or 50 KHz. (12.5 KHz is 12 on the display!) In this mode you can directly set a frequency using Queue, scan by hand using Volume down and Volume up or use automatic scan in frequency interval using A. Channel spacing can be changed by the Mode Selector to 12.5, 25 or 50 KHz. (12.5 KHz is 12 on the display!) # Switch from microphone to auxiliary modulation input. On transmission the microphone indicator will light up. The auxiliary setting has its own indicator. When switched on, the microphone will NOT work. Mode selector then # To switch On/Off radio RX signal strength indicator (if the RSSI module is present) in the last 2 digits of the display. Range from 00 to 99 correspond to the RSSI output level of the module from 0 to 2 Volt. If the RSSI module is not present 00 will be presented. Tone (Call transmitter) Switch on/off tone transmit. This key has its own indicator. Indicator on = tone activated. Mode selector then tone (Call transmitter) To select tone frequency. The program has the 63 standard CTCSS tones Hz tone burst. When the RSSI module is not in place tones will only work for TX and NOT for RX. Tones have to be set per channel. A How to select and set the tone frequency: To set the tone click Mode selector then Tone. In the right part of the display the current tone frequency will appear instead of the transmission frequency. By repeatedly pressing the Tone key select the desired CTCSS or the 1750Hz tone. CL is back to previous. Press CH to set the selected tone to the current channel. The tone will be set only for channels stored in memory! To unfix the tone from the channel click CH and then CL. New tones can be set without unfixing the previous tone. Swap receive and transmit frequencies (in semi-duplex channels) in usual mode. Start/stop automatic channel scanning at the scan sub-mode. In simplex mode at the scan sub-mode to start/stop automatic frequency scanning from low frequency to upper independently how they were set. Mode selector then A To switch between the two channel arrays. / between frequencies = first channel array, between frequencies = second channel array. Bell To switch Selective Call mode On/Off. Mode selector To expand the capacity of the keypad in combination with other keys. The Mode Selector holds for 3 seconds to conveniently press other keys. Mode selector then Bell To configure the selective call mode.

7 Instellingen Leg de set op de kop, front naar je toe. Verwijder het zwarte deksel en de metalen afscherming. Deze laatste afscherming is niet altijd meer aanwezig. Vermogen Full power is instelbaar tot ca. 25 watt. Bij een instelling op ca. 10 watt trekt de set ca. 4 amp. Low power kan afzonderlijk ingesteld worden als afgeleide van het full power vermogen. Let op: bij het opdraaien van het full power vermogen gaat het low power vermogen dus mee omhoog en kun je dat opnieuw instellen. Zwaai Linker instelpot: Rechter instelpot: instelling full power instelling low power Het audio klinkt in de standaardinstelling wat mager. Aanbevolen wordt om de zwaai bij spraak op 3 khz te zetten. Bij gebrek aan een zwaaimeter, is het een goede keuze om de potmeter op ca. 2 uur te zetten (In de PI4GN sets is dit gedaan). Frequentie Het corrigeren van het verschil tussen zendfrequentie en software. Squelch De squelch drempel kan op ca. 2 uv gezet worden. Bij gebrek aan een HF meetzender op ca. 5 uur te zetten. Min. Audio Instelling voor het laagste audio volume bij ontvangst. Er is een minimum niveau; op 0 zetten kan niet (Is in de PI4GN sets op minimum gezet). Aansluitingen achterzijde:

8 Frequenties in ROM versie 1.1 PI4GN In bank 1 ( / ): Alle 16 repeater kanalen RX/TX, genummerd Verder: APRS In bank 2 ( ): Alle marifoonkanalen. Ze zijn geplaatst conform de officiële nummering, dus (inclusief 29 en 30) en De tussenliggende kanalen zijn in beide banken gevuld met de originele kanalen uit de StrayCat software. Dit zijn ook marifoonkanalen. Alle kanalen zijn in RAM naar eigen inzicht te vullen; bij een reset van een kanaal of een bank verdwijnen de RAM settings en komen de ROM settings weer te voorschijn. 11 Aansluitingen via de aansluitbox: Alternatieve (low budget) aansluiting: Het is ook mogelijk om voeding, luidspreker en microfoon direct op de 25 polige connector aan te sluiten. De diode D1 is niet nodig als je maar 1 microfoon gebruikt. De mobilofoon is intern gezekerd. 6

12 Alternatieve microfoon: Helaas zijn een aantal mobilofoons uitgebouwd zonder de originele microfoons maar gelukkig passen de Motorola microfoons (type: sla er iemand zijn hersens mee in ) er met improvisatie ook op. In bijgaand schema is dit aangegeven, opgebouwd rond een 25 polige stekker (de printerstekker van een PC voldoet!). De kleur van de draden verschilt van type tot type, maar het idee is voor allen gelijk. 13 Microfoon: Het model MC6001 heeft een ingebouwde versterker en werkt op voeding vanuit de set. In de set wordt de voeding via een weerstand aangeboden. Over die weerstand wordt de signaalspanning afgenomen. Drukschakelaar S2, indien aanwezig, wordt niet gebruikt. Houder & sleutel: Om de set los te nemen uit de houder steek je de sleutel in het sleutelgat rechtsonder in het voorpaneel. Bij het ontbreken van een sleutel kun je van een forse paperclip er zelf een geschikte sleutel maken. Na een kwartslag draaien kun je de set naar voren uit de houder trekken. 8
