The HR advisor supports and advises the Board, supervisors and employers of the Faculty of Archaeology regarding all personnel matters. Additionally, she is also a contact for all Faculty employees concerning individual problems. 2 Page 2 of 7 Jaarverslag Archeologie Paula Schaap Tel: personeelszaken@law.leidenuniv.nl Make sure you inform the relevant colleagues in the Faculty of Archaeology with respect to teaching and faculty obligations HR Forms On HR Forms you can find forms you need when you appoint a new employee or change his/hers employment contract. You can also find forms relating to other HR affairs. As from 1 January 2013, the mutation form will be available in a digital format. Further information about this form will follow once the form is available. The forms are currently available in Dutch only. Appointment procedure as of December 10 The supervisor fills out the form Request for appointment; signs the form. The chair holder signs the form to agree / disagree; seturns the form Request for appointment to the supervisor. The supervisor sequests a copy of the identity card of the employee (driving licenses are not accepted); makes sure that the forms State of inquiries, Income tax and Flexible working hours are fully completed; sends the entire package to the HR department. The HR department verifies and signs the package; determines salary (in consultation with the supervisor) of the employee; sends the Request forappointment to the FEZ. The FEZ verifies and signs the application;

3 Page 3 of 7 returns the package to the HR department. The HR department sends the package to the supervisor. The supervisor signs the form to agree / disagree; sends the form return to the HR department. The HR department is responsible for the administrative handling. Zenobia essay prize for Dr. Miguel John Versluys Dr. Miguel John Versluys was awarded the Zenobia Essay Prize during the recent conference Troy: the city, the war, the legend organized by the Zenobia Foundation in the Lutheran church in Amsterdam. 4 Page 4 of 7 20 december 2012 Op 26 oktober 2012 was het 50 jaar geleden dat Pieter Jan Modderman op de Universiteit Leiden zijn inaugerele rede hield en daarmee de start gaf aan de Interfaculteit voor Aardrijkskunde en Prehistorie, het latere Instituut voor Prehistorie Leiden, wat vervolgens uitgroeide tot de huidige Faculteit der Archeologie. In 2012 zijn een aantal festiviteiten om dit 50-jarig bestaan te herdenken. Zo is besloten om in dit jubileumjaar te starten met een jaarlijkse Alumni-lezing(en)dag. Tom Hazenberg De eerste Alumni-lezingen-dag vindt plaats op 20 december Ook wordt dan de uitslag bekend gemaakt van de facultaire veldwerk-fotowedstrijd die in het kader van het jubileum is georganiseerd, en de 'Jubileum Analecta' gepresenteerd. De Analecta Praehistorica Leidensia, het jaarlijkse tijdschrift van de Faculteit der Archeologie, was oorspronkelijk gericht op het presenteren van resultaten van eigen prehistorisch veldwerk in NW Europa. Inmiddels is de focus verbreed: er is geen regionale beperking meer, en het doel is om spraakmakend onderzoek van de hele Faculteit te publiceren. 5 Page 5 of 7 In the academic year of , the Netherlands Institute for the Near East (NINO) will organize a monthly lecture series held at the National Museum of Antiquities. Next lecture: 20 December Lecture by Olivier Nieuwenhuyse entitled "De vroege bewoners van Iraqi Kurdistan. Leids onderzoek in Noord-Irak". This lecture is in Dutch. Date: 20 December 2012 Time: h Place: National Museum of Antiquities / Rijksmuseum van Oudsheden (RMO) Room: Leemans-zaal (ground floor) Diner 21 december + aansluitend gala Diegenen die zich voor het diner hebben aangemeld worden op 21 december om uur verwacht in het Scheltemacomplex, Marksteeg 1 te Leiden. Aanmelding voor het diner is helaas niet meer mogelijk. U kunt alleen nog op een wachtlijst worden gezet ingeval een collega plotseling verstek moet laten gaan. Christina Schönbach, masterstudente aan onze faculteit, zal zorgen voor de muzikale omlijsting van het diner. Het jaarlijkse decembergala vindt na het diner plaats, vanaf uur, op dezelfde lokatie. Naast de studenten zijn ook alle medewerkers van de faculteit der archeologie van harte welkom om deze feestavond tot een succes te maken! Op het programma staat o.a. het optreden van de Ceresband, het oudste studenten jazz- en dixielandorkest! De toegang voor het gala na afloop van het diner bedraagt 15 euro, drankjes zijn inbegrepen. Per persoon kunnen twee kaarten voor het gala worden gekocht. Kaarten kunnen worden gekocht bij L.A.S. Terra in Lipisus 016. H.E. van Gelder onderzoeksbeurs Het Geldmuseum beheert de grootste collectie munten, penningen en bankbiljetten van Nederland. Het museum biedt jaarlijks een veelbelovende wetenschapper de mogelijkheid om onderzoek te doen naar een onderwerp uit het verzamelgebied van het museum. De H.E. van Gelder Onderzoeksbeurs heeft een waarde van

6 Page 6 of 7 De onderzoeker (m/v) wordt met deze beurs in de gelegenheid gesteld een publicatie voor te bereiden en aan de hand daarvan vervolgonderzoek vorm te geven. Daarnaast zal de onderzoeker de onderzoeksresultaten in het najaar presenteren tijdens de jaarlijkse Van Gelderlezing. Onderzoekers kunnen solliciteren op voorwaarde dat ze niet langer dan drie jaar zijn gepromoveerd. Schriftelijke sollicitaties dienen vóór 15 februari 2013 ingelever te zijn. Een selectiecommissie beoordeelt het onderzoeksvoorstel op geschiktheid. De onderzoeksbeurs gaat in op 1 april Meer informatie... Information about the opening hours of the car park,. The Lipsius Restaurant will be closed from Thursday December 20th till Tuesday January 1st. From Monday December 17th till Friday January 25th the restaurant will be opened from 11:30 till 14:00 on weekdays. In the evenings the restaurant will be closed. The Literair Café will be closed from Thursday December 20th till Tuesday January 1st. From Monday January 2nd till Friday January 25th the Literair Café will be opened daily from 09:00 till 17:00. The Coffee room North will be closed from Thursday, December 20th till Friday, January 25th. 25 January: Dutch archaeology in the Mediterranean, Egypt and the Near East On 25 January 2013, a fieldwork meeting will take place about Dutch archaeology in the Mediterranean, Egypt and the Near East. Time: hours. Location: Museum of Antiquities (RMO), Leiden During the meeting several archaeologists will report on their fieldwork in the Mediterranean, Egypt and the Near

7 Page 7 of 7 East. The aim is to exchange ideas and to inform each other and all those interested (students, fellow archaeologists and the public) about the projects. At the same time we will discuss our position within Dutch archaeology. Entrance is free and the meeting will close with drinks. Read more... 2 February: Stone Age Day 2013 On 2 February the 23rd edition of the Stone Age Day will take place in the Lipsius building. The Stone Aged Day is a annual event that usually takes place on the first Saturday of February. The event is an initiative of the Museum of Antiquities and the Faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University. To read more about this event, click here (in Dutch). 12 April: SOJA 2013 The eleventh edition of the SOJA-symposium will take place on 12 April 2013 in Groningen.
