1 Newsletter/Nieuwsbrief JUNE 2016 Dear Parents Welcome to our penultimate whole school newsletter. The last months of the school year are very busy with many events and trips planned for the children. We really appreciate the help that we receive from our parents body so many thanks for working with us on events like the Zomerfeest. It is lovely to see the long warm days. Please ensure that your children wear long-lasting sunscreen on the sunny days to protect them from the sun during the break times. Beste ouders, verzorgers, Hierbij ontvangt u de voorlaatste nieuwsbrief van dit schooljaar. De laatste maanden van een schooljaar zijn als gebruikelijk erg druk. Veel uitstapjes en evenementen voor de kinderen zijn er gepland. Wij danken iedereen die hier zijn bijdrage aan heeft geleverd. Veel dank ook naar de leden van de OAC die alweer druk bezig zijn met het organiseren van ons Zomerfeest. Denkt u eraan uw kinderen eventueel goed te kleden in deze dagen met veel zonneschijn. 2 Staffing News Ms. Cyrille Vermaat is currently off school following an operation. During her absence the class is being covered by Caroline Harris who recently returned from maternity cover and Helen Jones. Karla Walker has rejoined the HSV team and will spend some time working with Yasmin Hagar who is gradually reintegrating back to work following her accident. As always we will be saying goodbye to some staff at the end of the school year. Eric Stins, ICT coordinator and NA teacher, is retiring. Eric has been at the HSV for 28 years Catie Heemskerk EAL teacher at VNS is moving to the Elckerlyc International School. Mark Davis has taken a position at the European School here in the Hague. Mathieu Bowman DAL teacher at KSS is leaving to further develop his work as an educational adviser and coach. Erin Oosterbroek has taken a teaching position in Sakhalin. We wish all of the staff that are leaving us all the very best. We are busy recruiting staff for the next school year and will inform you in the letter where we write about where there teachers will be teaching next year. Personeelsnieuws Aan het einde van dit schooljaar neemt meester Eric na ruim 40 jaar onderwijs en 28 jaar HSV afscheid. Hij gaat genieten van zijn pensioen. Meer info, zie Nassaulaannieuws. Zomerfeest The VNS and KSS Zomerfeests will be held on Friday June 24th. The Nassaulaan Zomerfeest will be on Saturday June 25 th. As always we are looking for parent helpers. Please think about becoming involved with this event. Zomerfeest Zaterdag 24 juni is het grote feest. Ons Zomerfeest is dan een feit We verwachten weer vele ouders en kinderen te zien. Heeft u nog wat tijd over en zin om te helpen, meld u dan bij iemand van de OAC of bij Frans of Flora. Nadere info volgt nog. Sports Days and Games Days Our annual sports days for the older children will once again be held at the HDM field. Details will follow in a separate letter. The dates are: Wednesday 15th June Bovenbouw Sports Day ID4, ID5 and ID6 NA groepen 5 to 8 Wednesday 22nd June middenbouw Sports Day ID2 and ID3 NA groepen 3 and 4 Sportdagen De sportdag voor de boven-en middenbouw wordt georganiseerd op de velden van HDM Woensdag 15 juni, bovenbouw, ID4, ID5, ID6 en NA groepen 5 t/m8. Woensdag 22 juni, middenbouw, ID2, ID3 en NA groepen 3 en 4.

3 From the MR One of the subjects which has received attention during the last MR meetings has been the cleaning of the different HSV locations. The importance of good communication between cleaners, teachers and management is clear. Management will continue to have regular meetings with the cleaning companies concerned to ensure the quality of service meets expectations. Another issue which received attention was the budget for next school year. There is more transparency this year and the MR were invited to study clearly laid out sheets showing how money is invested in the different areas and across the different locations. Call for volunteers: The MR wishes to play a more active role in ensuring road safety around the school locations. Simply sending e- mails or letters to parents has not resulted in the desired effect. The plan is that children will make flyers at school to be handed out to parents explaining how they can play a role in improving traffic safety around the school. The MR needs volunteers from the parents to supervise school traffic for quarter of an hour before the start and finish of the school day during the first week of the new school year and maybe also just after the October holiday. Please send an to mr@hsvdenhaag.nl if you are able to volunteer to help us with this worthwhile action. MR voor de Nieuwsbrief Tijdens de MR vergaderingen is aandacht besteed aan het schoonmaken van de verschillende locaties. Het belang van goede communicatie tussen leerkrachten, schoonmakers en directie werd benadrukt. De directie blijft in gesprek met de leidinggevenden van de schoonmaakbedrijven. Er was ook aandacht aan de budget. Tot nu toe is TPO volledig door geld voor het experiment gefinancierd geweest. Oproep voor vrijwilligers: De MR wil aandacht besteden aan de verkeersveiligheid rondom de school op alle locaties. Het plan is kinderen op school flyers te laten maken waarop ouders wordt verzocht voor en na schooltijd niet dichtbij de school te rijden of te parkeren. Om de flyers uit te delen zoeken wij vrijwilligers onder de ouders die in de eerste schoolweek (en misschien weer na de herfstvakantie) halfweg de straat een kwartiertje willen staan om 8:15 en 14:45. 4 News from Nassaulaan Meester Eric As you read above, Meester Eric will be retiring this summer. The school is hosting a goodbye reception for him on Friday 17 th June from in the Gym at NSL. Any parents who would like to drop by to say goodbye to him are very welcome. Royal Ten A number of children participated in the Royal Ten and children showed off their medals proudly at school. Gardening Mrs. Dean and Meester Frans spent Friday 27 th May gardening with groups of pupils in the playground. A second gardening day will take place on Friday 17 th June. Any parents who would like to come and join in are more than welcome. Coding You read in the last Newsletter that Groep 8 has had a series of lessons on Coding and programming. Any parents who would like to offer to help groups of children at coding would be very welcome. Please mail fdullea@hsvdenhaag.nl. Nassaulaannieuws Meester Eric Zoals u boven al heeft kunnen lezen neemt meester Eric afscheid van de school om te gaan genieten van zijn pensioen. Op vrijdag 17 juni van tot is er gelegenheid van hem afscheid te nemen. U bent van harte welkom. Royal Ten Een aantal kinderen heeft deze prestatieloop volbracht. Vol trost zijn ze langs gekomen om hun welverdiende medaille te laten zien. Tuinieren Op vrijdag 27 mei hebben juffrouw Lorraine en meester Frans hard gewerkt op het schoolplein met verschillende groepen kinderen. Een tweede dag is er op vrijdag 17 juni. Heeft u zin en tijd om te helpen, graag, u bent van harte welkom. Coding In de vorige brief heeft u gelezen dat we in groep 8 een lessencyclus mbt coderen/programmeren hebben gevolgd. 6 School Closures and Holidays Monday 11th July Friday 19th August SCHOOL CLOSED SUMMER HOLIDAY Dates for Next School Year School begins for children in ID1-ID6, NA1-NA8 Monday August 22 nd IDR children will receive home visits the week beginning Monday August 22 nd and start school on Monday August 29 th. On Thursday 1 st September at 18:30 there will be an Information Evening for Parents with your child s new class teacher. You will also get the chance to meet the support and specialist teachers. On Friday 9 th September we would like to end the week with a repeat of the International Fair that we held last year. We will ask everyone to bring along typical food from their country to share. Further details will follow. It will be a lovely way to end the week. On Thursday 22 nd September is Walk to School Day (Schoolbrengdag) (Please make arrangements to walk all or part of the way to school on this day). The children will receive badges the day before as a reminder to participate in the event. On Tuesday 20 th September Prinsjesdag/ Prince s Day holiday will be celebrated. From Tuesday 27 th to Friday 30 th September, ID6 and NA7 children will be on school camp. From Saturday 15 th to Sunday 23 rd October (during the October holiday), it s EU coding week. During the week starting on Monday October 10 th, Kinderboeken Week - Children s Book week - will focus on the theme of opa s en oma s (grandfathers and grandmothers). For this special week we would like to extend a warm welcome to grandparents who wish to participate in the number of book readings that will take place around the school. It will be a very special occasion indeed for children with grandparents planning a visit during this time. Data voor het komende jaar 22 augustus, school begint weer. 01 sept, informatieavond voor de groepen. 09 sept, International Fair. 20 sept, Prinsjesdag, alle kinderen vrij. 22 sept, Schoolbrengdag. Wij vragen u de kinderen lopend of op de fiets naar school te brengen. 27 sept t/m 30 sept, kamp voor ID6 en NA7 10 okt t/m 14 okt is het Kinderboekenweek. Het thema is opa s en oma s. In deze week nodigen we graag alle opa s en oma s uit om bij ons op school te helpen met een aantal leesactiviteiten voor de kinderen. 15 okt. t/m 23 okt, tijdens de herfstvakantie, is het Europese Coding week

7 THE MONTH IN NSL Director Frans de Jong is feeling a little like a savage pirate for the NA1a/1b celebrating birthdays of the teachers. Directeur Frans de Jong voelt zich een beetje een piraat als de juffen van 1a en 1b hun verjaardag vieren. Director Lorraine Dean got her hands dirty with ID and NA children in the NSL gardens. They planted several seeds, carrots, courgettes etc. We can t wait to see them grow next school year Directeur Lorraine Dean krijgt vieze handen als zij met kinderen van de NA en de ID in onze tuintjes werkt. Zij hebben daar onkruid weggehaald en enkele zaadjes geplant, worteltjes en courgettes bv.

8 HSV staff got up to speed on Fire Safety last week. Our Location Leader Flora Dullea is now a force to be reckoned with Het HSV personeel heeft zich weer bijgeschoold met een herhaalcursus EHBO. Locatieleider Flora Dullea is nu helemaal op de hoogte. HRH Princess Laurentien spoke to NA6 children about The Missing Chapter Foundation last week. The MCF is working on programs to help children repatriate. HKH prinses Laurentien heeft met kinderen van NA6 gesproken over haar stichting The Missing Chapter. Deze stichting zet zich in om kinderen die vanuit het buitenland terugkomen zo goed mogelijk te laten reintegreren.
