2 Happygift projectnummer: Stop geweld tegen vrouwen Santa Cruz, Bolivia TEAR HAPPIETARIA Land en regio: Santa Cruz, Bolivia Lokale partner: Pay y Esperanza Projectnummer (TEAR): Projectperiode: Januari december 2013 Aanvragende organisatie: Tear Nederland Samenvatting project: In Santa Cruz De wijken Los Lotes en EL Retoño zijn jonge buitenwijken van de snel groeiende stad Santa Cruz. De wijken worden voor een groot deel bevolkt door migranten afkomstig van het platteland, in de hoop werk te vinden in de stad. In deze wijken zijn door de snelle groei basisvoorzieningen als riolering, geplaveide wegen en regenwaterafvoer veelal nog niet aanwezig. Het gemiddelde gezin in deze wijken heeft 4 tot 5 kinderen en heeft te maken met schrijnende armoede. Ook is er sprake van ernstige sociale problemen, zoals alcoholisme, bendevorming, seksueel en emotioneel misbruik van met name vrouwen en kinderen. In Bolivia hebben vrouwen van oudsher een ondergeschikte positie in het gezin en in de samenleving, waardoor zij vaak slachtoffers zijn van geweld. De kerk Tear en Pay y Esperanza gelooft in de kracht van de lokale kerken. Immers, de kerk en haar leden worden opgeroepen armen en minderheden, dichtbij en veraf in deze wereld, een krachtige stem geven tegen uitbuiting en onrecht. Ook kan de kerk een belangrijke sleutelrol spelen in herstel van gebroken relaties. Er wordt door Pay y Esperanza veel samengewerkt met lokale kerken uit de beide wijken Los Lotes en EL Retoño. Verschillende kerken en vrijwilligers van de kerk vervullen een belangrijke maatschappelijke functie. Het project Het doel van het project is in de wijken Los Lotes en El Retorno van Santa Cruz het geweld tegen vrouwen en kinderen aan de ene kant te voorkomen en aan de andere kant aan te pakken. Bolivia vandaag Bolivia ligt in het centrum van het Andesgebergte dat van noord naar zuid over het Zuid-Amerikaanse continent loopt. De Boliviaanse bevolking, geschat op 10 miljoen. Bolivia is sinds lange tijd een van de armste landen van Zuid-Amerika. De invoering van een markteconomie heeft voor sommigen weliswaar veel opgeleverd, maar volgens het Ontwikkelingsprogramma van de Verenigde Naties leeft 64,6% van de bevolking onder de armoedegrens. De belangrijkste economische activiteiten zijn onder meer landbouw, bosbouw, visserij, mijnbouw en de productie van goederen, zoals textiel, kleding. Bolivia is in politiek opzicht uitermate instabiel. In de laatste eeuw vonden er niet minder dan 50 staatsgrepen plaats. Sinds 1982 is het land officieel een democratische republiek, maar veel concrete verbeteringen heeft dat nog niet opgeleverd. Het land heeft veel grondstoffen (zoals aardgas en goud), maar die worden bijna allemaal uitgebuit door buitenlandse bedrijven, waardoor het volk maar bitter weinig terug ziet van de opbrengsten. De partnerorganisatie Paz y Esperanza (Vrede en Hoop) heeft als missie het vechten voor gerechtigheid voor de meest uitgesloten groepen in de maatschappij, die vaak te lijden hebben onder onrecht en armoede. Hieronder vallen vrouwen, kinderen, achterstandsgroepen en minderheden. Paz y Esperanza wil deze mensen helpen zich bewust te worden van hun volledige potentieel. Paz y Esperanza is een

3 christelijke organisatie met (zelfstandige) landenkantoren in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador en de Verenigde Staten. Paz y Esperanza wil in 2013 de volgende resultaten behalen: 600 studenten, 20 leraren van scholen en 150 ouders / verzorgers hebben geleerd wat geweld precies inhoudt, de gevolgen ervan, wat risicovolle situaties zijn, kunnen herkennen of ze wel of niet slachtoffer zijn van geweld en weten hoe ze geweld kunnen voorkomen. 60 kerkleiders en vrijwilligers van lokale kerken weten hoe ze geweld kunnen herkennen en voorkomen. Verder zullen zij getraind worden zich actief te gaan inzetten tegen geweld en actief steun verlenen aan slachtoffers van geweld. Paz y Esperanza zet zich ook in om gewoontes en de houding van mannen in de wijken ten opzichte van vrouwen en kinderen te veranderen. Ook worden deze mannen gestimuleerd verantwoording te nemen voor de situatie in hun omgeving. 50 mannen zullen worden benaderd deel te nemen aan een mannengroep. Behalve de directe aanpak van de problemen en huiselijk geweld wordt er ook gewerkt met de lokale media en de juridische instanties. Daarbij richt Paz y Esperanza zich op manieren van berichtgeving van geweld door de media en omgang met slachtoffers door justitiële instanties. Dit is belangrijk in een context waarbij er geen privacy bestaat voor slachtoffers van seksueel geweld.. 4 Happy Gift projectnummer: Ontwikkeling van onderop in Cambodja Land en regio: Lokale partner: Aanvragende organisatie: Looptijd: Cambodja 100 dorpen in verschillende provincies Wholistic Development Organisation (WDO) Tear Nederland Januari december 2013 (dit is het tweede jaar van een projectperiode die doorloopt tot 2014) TEAR Samenvatting project: Armoede op het platteland Van de Cambodjaanse bevolking woont 90% op het platteland. Mensen hebben weinig onderwijs genoten en zijn afhankelijk van kleinschalige landbouw. Vaak levert het land te weinig op om rond te komen. Voedseltekorten en slechte gezondheid zijn het gevolg. Gezinnen vallen vaak uit elkaar omdat ouders naar de stad trekken op zoek naar werk. Ook worden jongeren naar de stad of het buitenland gestuurd om te werken. Kinderen blijven achter onder de hoede van familie. Soms lopen zij het risico al jong in de seksindustrie terecht te komen. Ongeveer 1/3 van de bevolking leeft onder de armoedegrens, met weinig perspectief om uit de armoedespiraal te komen. Tear investeert in Cambodja in projecten die het initiatief bij de mensen zelf leggen. Waarom? Omdat dat projecten die beginnen bij bewustwording en die nadruk leggen op wat mensen zelf kunnen doen, tot onverwacht goede en duurzame resultaten leiden. Een waarschuwing: voor dit soort projecten is wel geduld nodig. Niet alleen van de mensen uit de dorpen zelf, maar ook van u. Verandering begint van binnen Het project van WDO, partner van Tear in Cambodja, is een voorbeeld van deze aanpak: het helpt mensen op het platteland van Cambodja om zélf hun ontwikkeling ter hand te nemen. WDO werkt in tientallen dorpen op het platteland samen met lokale ontwikkelingscomités. Vaak zijn dit leden van een lokale kerk die zo n comité bij elkaar roepen. leden van een lokale kerk degenen die zo n comité bij elkaar roepen. Op zich is het al bijzonder wanneer mensen uit het dorp, als het even kan met steun van de lokale leiders, bij elkaar komen om over hun situatie te praten. Zeker in Cambodja, waar de gewelddadige geschiedenis van de afgelopen decennia ervoor heeft gezorgd dat mensen elkaar moeilijk vertrouwen. Maar het werk van WDO stopt daar niet: door gesprekken, training en begeleiding overtuigen ze de mverbouwen en met winst gaan verkopen. Ook veeteelt krijgt aandacht: trainingen in het houden van kippen, in combinatie met een startkapitaal voor een aantal kippen, zorgen ervoor dat mensen hun inkomen én hun dieet aanvullen. Gezondheid Juist arme dorpsbewoners hebben vaak te maken met ziektes. Het gaat dan om diarree, buikgriep en huidziekten. Zeker voor jonge kinderen en kwetsbare ouderen kunnen die ziekten grote gevolgen hebben. Er is veel bijgeloof over dit soort ziekten, mensen denken bijvoorbeeld dat ze behekst worden. Terwijl de oorzaak vaak ligt in slechte kennis over hygiëne. WDO investeert daarom in trainingen over hygiëne, het voorkomen van ziekten, een gezonde leefomgeving en het belang van schoon drinkwater. Daarnaast worden waterfilters en zeep verspreid. Ook organiseren de dorpsbewoners zich in de dorpen om beter drinkwater en betere sanitaire voorzieningen voor hun dorp te regelen. Conflicthantering binnen en buiten het gezin Een ander thema waarop getraind wordt is man/vrouwrelaties. Waarom dit thema? Op het platteland van Cambodja leidt armoede en hopeloosheid tot verslavingen, huiselijk geweld, en daardoor tot gezinnen die uit elkaar vallen. Met deze trainingen voor mannen en vrouwen wordt gestimuleerd dat de gezinsleden samenwerken. In veel van de dorpen waar WDO werkt, grijpen de lokale comités tegenwoordig in bij conflicten binnen een gezin of tussen dorpsbewoners. Dat was tot voor kort niet gewoon, omdat de houding vaak is leven en laten leven. De nieuwe aanpak leidt tot een veilige leefomgeving voor vrouwen en kinderen.

5 De partnerorganisatie WDO is ontstaan omdat christenen in Cambodja zich wilden inzetten voor arme mensen in hun omgeving. WDO werkt in heel Cambodja samen met lokale overheden en lokale kerken op het platteland. Samenwerking Dit project is een samenwerking van Tear en zusterorganisatie Tearfund UK. Het is onze gezamenlijke visie om de lokale kerk in te zetten in de strijd tegen armoede en onrecht. Deze samenwerking levert belangrijke voordelen op als het gaat om efficiëntie en kostenreductie. Doel: Stapje voor stapje verandert de kijk van de mensen op hun eigen situatie. Dat is nog wel het meest opmerkelijke resultaat van deze aanpak: mensen veranderen van binnenuit en ervaren dat ze, wanneer ze samenwerken, veel kunnen bereiken. Deze verandering is moeilijk in cijfers uit te drukken of tastbaar te maken. Tegelijk is die verandering van denken de belangrijkste motor voor alle andere resultaten die dit project bereikt. Hier is uw geduld nodig: het duurt vaak lang voordat zo n proces leidt tot concrete resultaten. Tegelijk geloven we bij Tear in deze aanpak, omdat die leidt tot veranderingen die passen bij het tempo van de mensen zelf. WDO investeert veel tijd in dit proces. Maar naast het coachen van dat veranderingsproces geeft WDO de dorpscomités praktische trainingen. Die trainingen zorgen ervoor dat de dorpsbewoners concreet aan de slag gaan om verandering te brengen. WDO helpt de comités bij het opzetten van hun eigen projecten en geeft waar nodig ook materiële input. Wanneer bijvoorbeeld het dorpscomité iets wil doen aan de slechte sanitaire voorzieningen, kan WDO de betonnen platen leveren waarmee bewoners zelf een latrine kunnen bouwen. Activiteiten: Een latrine voor één gezin kost 50,-. Voor 25,- voorziet u 10 gezinnen van zaad voor bomen. Het opzetten van een visvijver kost 60,-. De ontwikkelingsprojecten die worden opgezet, vragen een investering van 800,- tot 1000,- per project. Beoogde resultaten: Concrete veranderingen De resultaten van dit project liegen er niet om: de dorpsbewoners verbeteren hun inkomen, hebben meer en beter te eten, krijgen een betere gezondheid en versterken hun rechtspositie. Economisch: inkomen verbeterd WDO geeft trainingen over het opzetten van een spaargroep. Zo n spaargroep stimuleert het opzij zetten van kleine beetjes geld voor later. Dorpsbewoners leggen zo in redelijk korte tijd een gezamenlijke spaarpot aan. Die spaarpot wordt deels weer uitgeleend aan de eigen leden, die daardoor kunnen investeren in kleine bedrijfjes of andere activiteiten die hun inkomen verbeteren. Voedselzekerheid Een ander onderdeel waar WDO de mensen op traint is landbouw. Door die trainingen verbetert bijvoorbeeld de rijstopbrengst, waardoor mensen gezamenlijk rijst opzij kunnen leggen voor in de maanden dat de oogst op raakt. Daarnaast krijgen de mensen training over andere gewassen, zodat ze in de maanden dat er geen werk is in de rijstbouw, niet stilzitten, maar bijvoorbeeld een groentetuin opzetten of andere gewassen.

7 Happy Gift projectnummer: Onderwijs aan Birmese vluchtelingen in Thailand ZOA Land en regio: Lokale partner: Nederlandse partnerorganisatie: Thailand, 7 vluchtelingenkampen langs de grens met Myanmar ZOA Thailand ZOA, Nederland Looptijd: Januari maart 2014 Samenvatting project: The main intervention of this project is to continue supporting basic education of refugees along Thai- Burmese border. The support will be provided to communities to maintain basic educational services and to improve the quality of education. A key part is to develop the capacity of the education systems in the camps. The support for improved education management, system and policy will help the Burmese refugees to be become more self-reliant. This project will take place in Thailand in seven refugee camps as follows. Mae Sariang area Mae Ra Ma Luang & Mae La Oon camps, Tak area Mae La, Umpiem Mai & Nu Po camps, Kanchanaburi area Don Yang camp, and Ratchaburi area Tham Hin camp For 15 years ZOA Thailand has provided the education support to refugees fled from Myanmar due to human right abuse and armed group conflict. In the early stage, relief was a key approach for project implementation. With the development of the project over the years, the support for the basic education includes basic services and technical element. The project is to improve the education provided for refugees fits with larger developmental plans to support the economic and infrastructural situation along the Thai-Burmese border. Furthermore, with the change in Burma the education is a key factor for preparing the refugees for integration and reconciliation when return is realized. Doelen: In protracted refugee situation, Burmese refugees; including children and youth, have lived in despair with little hope for their future. The camp residents have lived in isolation due to the the RTG s security based policy and the distance of camps. They are cut off from news, many forms of media and educational materials. The restrictions on movement outside the camps provide a further form of isolation as it is challenging to learn and share approaches and best practices with other individuals and communities. This project will assist in reducing the mentioned constraints by enhancing camp educators capacities and improving their networks. Overall objective: Specific objective: Improved standards and quality in education for Burmese refugees aligned to existing institutional standards and resources within Thailand Effective tuition supported by appropriate facilities, staffing, management and policy coordination

9 Happy Gift projectnummer: Water en Sanitatie project, Jemen ZOA Land en regio: Arhab en Bani Garmouz, Jemen Lokale partner: Nederlandse partnerorganisatie: Looptijd: ZOA Nederland Samenvatting project: Arhab district and Bani Garmoz sub-district are located in Southern Sana a Governorate and are situated just north of the capital Sana a. Clashes and fighting were followed by widespread destruction after an incident where tribesmen shot down an airplane in May This violence, in addition to political uncertainty, left many families from Arhab and Bani Garmoz no other option than to seek safety elsewhere. People moved back home after the situation settled, but found critical infrastructure like wells damaged. This made it difficult for them to start up the normal way of living again. UN sources estimated that heavy shelling and air strikes in Arhab District resulted in approximately 9,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in July On top of that, depletion of sub-surface water resources and ever growing dependency on water trucking asked for more sustainable solutions like rain water catchment and storage. Hygiene conditions are a major concern in many communities. Awareness raising related to sanitation and safe drinking water, preferably through women, can help change behavior. Doel: The objective of this project is to assist conflict-affected communities in making the transition from relief to rehabilitation, from dependence to self-sufficiency and from conflict to peace. ZOA Yemen wants to achieve this by assisting the conflict affected communities to increase their capacity to establish sustainable livelihoods with a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The number of indirect beneficiaries targeted by the projects, are an estimated 40,229 people / 5,481 families. Direct beneficiaries can be specified per proposed intervention: - Well rehabilitation: o 375 farmers will use the repaired wells for irrigation o 660 households will use the repaired wells for domestic water use - Cistern construction and rehabilitation o 600 families will use the cisterns for domestic water use. - Rooftop construction o 100 households will use the water collected from the rooftop water catchment - Urine separation Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP)latrines o 100 families will use the dry pit latrines. - Pump mechanics training o 30 well users will be able to conduct minor repairs and maintain the wells - Vocational training o 70 youth or unemployed community members will be trained in construction and WASH technical works - Hygiene promotion o 40 women will be trained to conduct hygiene and sanitation promotion sessions o 2000 families will be able to improve hygiene and sanitation practices at home o 2000 families will receive a sanitation kit o 2000 families will use clean drinking water which is filtered by the household water filters (see picture below).

10 - Capacity Strengthening of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) o 2 CBOs will be trained to improve the capacity of the organization, implementation and monitoring and evaluation. ZOA is in the process of executing a large survey which will bring detailed information to the surface on the vulnerabilities of different communities. This survey plus day-to-day contact with the beneficiaries will offer sufficient material that can be used for presentations in the Netherlands. 2 - Objectives and results Specific objective of the project: Improved and increased access to water and sanitation for returned citizens in Arhab and Bani- Garmoz. Project results: 1. Improved access to domestic water supply through repaired wells, rehabilitated/constructed water cisterns and rooftop water collection systems. 2. Improved access to water for irrigation through the repair of damaged wells (boreholes) and piping systems 3. Improved health and hygiene among the targeted households through: a. applied hygiene and sanitation practices b. use of sanitation kits c. use of water filters d. use of urine separation VIP latrines 4. Improved and increased capacity of 1 CBO (community based organizations) in Arhab and 1 CBO in Bani-Garmoz and community groups empowered 5. Positive contribution towards Sana a basin Water Management Approach Project activities 1. Improved access to domestic water supply through repaired wells, rehabilitated/constructed water cisterns and rooftop water collection systems. A - During the conflict more than 25 of the 100 wells got damaged due to the shelling and fighting. Some boreholes are completely destroyed, while others are not functioning due to problems with the piping system or the pump. In the target area some wells are government owned but most of them are owned by small community groups of some families. The wells have a double function. Approximately 85% of the well water is used to irrigate the cultivation fields and approximately 15% is used for domestic water use. Due to the non-functioning boreholes farmers are not able to cultivate their land which is affecting their livelihood seriously. Most of the families are forced to buy water from far distance water sources which is expensive. It is expected that the household income will increase after the farmers are able to start cultivating again and when drinking water is not bought any more. B - In order to promote the Integrated Water Resources Management Approach, the project will also introduce different ways of rainwater harvesting. Existing water cisterns will be rehabilitated and new cisterns of 250 cubic meter will be constructed. Based on experience in Hajja governorate VHI will introduce the rooftop water collection systems to the community as well. Together with the CBOs awareness raising will be done and as a pilot 50 households in Arhab and 50 households in Bani- Garmoz will be selected to receive this rooftop water collection system. The community will be involved at all levels of the construction and rehabilitation of the water sources. They will contribute with unskilled labour and with the provision of local materials that are available in the vicinity of the villages. 2. Improved access to water for irrigation through the repair of damaged wells (boreholes) and piping systems. As indicated under result 1, the repair of boreholes is essential to address the deteriorated livelihoods of the population. Contractors will be hired to repair the boreholes, piping systems or pumps.

Improved health and hygiene among the targeted households through: a. applied hygiene and sanitation practices b. use of sanitation kits c. use of water filters d. use of urine separation VIP latrines According to the CBOs, many children suffer from diarrhea and worms in the target area, especially children. As the distance to the water source is far, at many different points the water can get contaminated. To minimize the risk of contaminated drinking water, 2000 household water filters will be distributed to the households. The distribution of the filters will only be done after the people are trained how to use the water filter and how to break the chain of contamination. Every household will also receive a sanitation kit. Currently approximately 50% of the households in Arhab and Bani-Garmoz have water flush toilets, but many are not functioning. It is obvious that in an area with such a water shortage the water flush toilets are not the best option. Therefore a pilot programme will be carried out to introduce the urine/faeces separation VIP latrines to the target group. The advantage is that there is no water needed for flushing. 4. Improved and increased capacity of 1 CBO in Arhab and 1 CBO in Bani-Garmoz and community groups empowered Through two Community Based Organisations (CBOs) the construction and rehabilitation of the rainwater harvesting activities will be implemented and hygiene promoters selected and trained. The CBOs themselves will also be trained in monitoring and evaluation. 5. Positive contribution towards Sana a basin Water Management Approach Yemen is the most water stressed country in the world with less than 120m3 per capita per year. Underground water tables, the country s main water source, are depleting rapidly due to the high population growth and the expansion of certain cash crops (especially qat) which place and enormous burden on already scarce water reserves. It is expected that the Sana a water basin will be completely dried up within the next ten years. An Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach is therefore needed. Through the applied methods under this project, the project wants to work with the government on alternative ways of water collection and usage. 3 Funding request. The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Yemen rewarded this ZOA programme with a EUR for 1 ½ years. Of this amount EUR is allocated to ZOA Yemen itself to lead the project, build the capacity of the local partners, ensure technical quality and establish an M&E system. The remainder of the amount is allocated to partner organizations that ZOA works with in Yemen to enable them to execute the construction and to raise hygiene and sanitation awareness and provide vocational training to the youth. The requested funding of EUR is a co-funding to the contribution of EUR and will be allocated to project support costs. The support costs that are covered are staff costs, directly or indirectly involved in the project, office costs and administrative costs to provide logistic and administrative support (procurement, etc) and vehicle costs for field visits. The contribution of Happy Gift will contribute significantly to a smooth and quality implementation of the project. It will be a happy gift to the families in Arhab and Bani Garmoz for a more sustainable livelihood and healthy environment. All countries listed on the DAC List of the OECD Lokale partnerorganisatie: - Nederlandse partnerorganisatie: BID-Network, Nederland Projectperiode: Samenvatting project: The Women in Business Challenge is a business plan competition to support women entrepreneurs in the development of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries. This business plan competition is organized by BiD Network and made possible by ICCO and ING. The Women in Business Challenge aims to support women entrepreneurs providing them with the assistance, templates, coaching, contacts and financiers to get their business started. Creating a level playing field for men and women entrepreneurs. Research has demonstrated that women entrepreneurs in developing countries face even more difficulties in accessing finance and support for their businesses. On the other hand, women are important leaders of change and are the ones prioritizing the well-being of their families when it comes to investment decisions. The competition, which is now in its fifth edition, addresses both the challenges and opportunities that come with being a business woman in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Currently 35% of BiD Network s business proposals come from women entrepreneurs. We aim to increase this. Through the coaching program, the women entrepreneurs are eligible to receive feedback and support in writing their business plan. The 5 best business plans will win a business trip to The Netherlands for training, b2b and investor meetings. Also, the participants will get access to a network of more than 45,000 like-minded entrepreneurs, coaches and investors. The winner of this challenge is eligible to win tailor made technical assistance and/or a cash prize. The technical assistance is worth 5,000 in advisory services. Through Happietaria we aim to raise the 5,000 for the cash prize. Through this project we aim at starting or growing at least 10 companies led by women and finance 3 of them.
