7 Gebruik van hernieuwbare grondstoffen Afnemers en consumenten zijn in toenemende mate geïnteresseerd in hernieuwbare grondstoffen. Hernieuwbare grondstoffen dragen bij aan duurzame ontwikkeling d.m.v. substitutie van fossiele grondstoffen en reductie van CO2 emissies Hernieuwbare grondstoffen maken het mogelijk om producten met nieuwe functionaliteiten en moleculen te ontwikkelen. maar zij zijn niet per se duurzaam. Kwesties zoals concurrentie met voedsel, landgebruik en biodiversiteit spelen een belangrijke rol in de discussie over hernieuwbare grondstoffen. Fossiele grondstoffen zullen de komende decennia voor de Nederlandse chemische industrie, inclusief BASF, de belangrijkste grondstoffen blijven

11 Wat is nodig om gebruik van hernieuwbare grondstoffen te vergroten? Een verdere stijging van het aandeel hernieuwbare grondstoffen in het globale inkoopvolume van BASF (2014: +- 4,5%) hangt af van meerdere criteria: toename van de klantenvraag; voldoende beschikbaarheid van de relevante biomassa; duurzaamheid van de biomassa; economische haalbaarheid van het eindproduct op basis van biomassa en concurrentieel prijsniveau van de biomassa; betrouwbaar en efficiënte productie- en procestechnologie die zorgt voor het behoud of verbetering van de kwalitatieve eigenschappen van het product

12 Conclusie: Dedicated en Biomass Balance aanpak complementeren elkaar Beide benaderingen dragen bij aan duurzaamheid door besparing van fossiele grondstoffen en vermindering van broeikasgas emissies. Ze dragen beiden bij aan de bio-based economy door het gebruik van hernieuwbare grondstoffen in de chemische industrie mogelijk te maken en te verbreden. NRK en BASF zijn toegetreden tot de Green Deal Groencertificaten om de Biomass Balance benadering te promoten. Deelname leidt tot positieve exposure en kan invulling geven aan uw duurzaamheidsstrategie Wij zoeken nog afnemers die deel willen nemen aan de Green Deal Groencertificaten en ook een bijdrage willen leveren aan de biobased economy
