12 Institute for Aerospace Maintenance Maastricht Visie: Bedrijven MMB hebben kennis nodig om de groei van de laatste 5 jaar te bestendigen. Kennis wordt een belangrijke factor in de MRO keten voor MKB. Missie: Het verzamelen van toepasbare kennis voor de aerospace MRO sector in Zuid Nederland om de positie in de MRO supply chain en binnen nieuwe concepten te verbeteren: markt gerichte innovaties 12

15 1. Virtual Technology Application of Virtual Technology in Aerospace Industry : The potential role of ICT and virtual reality is explored. The objective is to reduce man hours and labour cost. Important subjects: A. Virtual training B. Paperless documentation C. Robot technology Technological, safety and certification aspects of these innovations are taken into account.

16 2. Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) Additive Manufacturing enables the aerospace industry to reduce weight of components drastically (up to 60%). Significant for new designs by OEM, but also the aftermarket (MRO) can benefit. Aspects of AM in the area of MRO: 1. Certification of the AM process as an alternative for classic manufacturing 2. Development of technologies and materials for AM are going fast but still in early stages 3. Many initiatives in surrounding countries (UK!), in NL initiative by NAG 4. IAMM could follow these initiatives to enable early adaption for MMB companies.

17 3. Cross sector learning Process industry Availability requirements, and to a certain extent safety, are equally important as in aerospace. Learning aspects are in the areas of: o Training aspects o Maintenance planning o Logistics of spare parts and materials Health Reliability and safety requirements are equally important as in aerospace. Learning aspects are in the areas of: o Training aspects o Supply chain Automotive (assembly process) Availability and reliability of the supply chain are equally important as in aircraft maintenance. Learning aspects are in the areas of: o Logistics of spare parts and materials
