1 Programme outline WindDays 2018 Below you can find the outline for the programme of the conference of the WindDays All sessions have a title and description giving an indication of what will be the topic of the session. The WindDays team is currently working on filling in the details of each session by assigning session leaders and speakers to each session. For the latest updates regarding this process follow the information on our website When you re interested in speaking please contact us on conference@winddays.com giving a short outline on the subject you d like to give a presentation on, then we ll look into the options of fitting you into our program. 4 Details per session Plenary opening session During the plenary opening session astronaut André Kuipers will present his view on the earth, and will inspire the audience with his story on why it s worth to fight for this earth. Next to him the highest level of national and European policy makers have been invited to present their views on wind energy in our future energy system. Parallel sessions A1. Energy & Climate agreement 2.0 An update on the latest developments in the negotiations. How do the negotiations work, who are the important players and how is the renewable energy sector approaching them? And more specifically, what s in it for the wind energy industry? What s our proposal and what are those of other major players? How likely is it that we can grow further as a sector in the next decade? Are we going to get specific goals for renewable energy, for onshore and offshore wind? What are the challenges we have to face? A2. Internationaal Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen Building more wind turbines has consequences in all parts of the supply chain. Do we have all these effects in the picture? And where are your responsibilities as a company to mitigate the risk on negative impacts? A3. Market developments in wind energy in Europe An overview of the European wind energy policy and market developments, trends and analysis. A4. Stakeholders in offshore wind farms There are a lot of different activities in the North Sea. The offshore wind sector may occupy over 25% of the North Sea and therefor will have to communicate with many other stakeholders inf the sea. We have to work together to meet all targets. Is multiple space planning possible that satisfies all stakeholders? Do we see opportunities for social innovation? A5. Challenges for the energy transition I: Power supply & System integration in 2050 How will we produce and consume energy in 2050? What do we need to accomplish in the next decade to reach that goal? Do we need to start developing large scale storage options today or do these options only play an important role near the end of the energy transition? Is an energy island in the North Sea necessary for further offshore wind development? Are the needed gridimprovements possible with current technology or is radical development needed? What will be the role of wind energy? What incentives are needed to reform the market? B1. Hoe staat het met de realisatie van MW in 2020? Het Kernteam Wind op land (Ministeries, IPO, VNG, RVO en NWEA) geeft de laatste stand van zaken over windprojecten en de realisatie van provinciale doelen. Waar worden de komende jaren windprojecten gebouwd en wat zijn de uitdagingen? Ook wordt de link gelegd met het klimaatakkoord: wat kunnen we leren van de huidige stand van zaken van de MW en zijn er zaken die we in het klimaatakkoord anders moeten opschrijven/doen? B2. Werken in wind, het beroep van de toekomst In de komende 3 jaar verdubbelt het aantal banen in de windenergiesector in Nederland. En in de tien jaar daarna nog eens. Als we genoeg goed opgeleid personeel willen voorbereiden op de toekomst moeten we daar nu op voorsorteren. In deze werksessie wordt met u gekeken naar de personeelsvraag vanuit de sector, de functieeisen voor toekomstig personeel, en hoe we nu al jongeren kunnen interesseren voor de sector. 5 B3. Market opportunities for Dutch wind expertise The Dutch industry has an impressive track record in wind energy. What are the export opportunities? What are the opportunities for the Dutch wind sector in upcoming markets? What do small wind turbines have to offer? Where do we find these markets and what are interesting missions and exhibitions? How do we attract foreign investments (Winnovate)? B4. Offshore wind policy and tenders in 2018 and 2019 The offshore market developments in the Netherlands. The outcome of the Hollandse Kust Zuid I and II, Borssele V and future tenders. What about the tenders 2018 and 2019, can changes in the tender system be expected? And what are the expectations about the period from 2020 onwards? Is there already something to tell about the roadmap We have subsidy free tenders. But what is next? More focus on quality of bids, change to a CfD system or will we start with auctions in the Netherlands? B5. Challenges for the energy transition II: The demand side of the market In the next decade the industry is able to make huge steps in scaling up capacity. Our ambition in 2030 is an installed capacity of 18,5 GW offshore and 15 GW onshore. The big question is: can we consume the large amounts of electricity these wind farms will produce? Is there sufficient demand to support further growth. What are the prospects? To what extend can the industry electrify and at what speed? What can we expect of the growth of the electrical mobility market? And are powertoheat options able to supply sufficient demand for electricity use? C1. Windturbines, vleermuizen en vogels Experts op het gebied van ecologie en natuur geven de laatste stand van zaken voor wind op land m.b.t. wetgeving, effecten van windturbines op natuur, jurisprudentie, mitigerende maatregelen, uitdagingen en kansen. C2. Financiële aspecten van wind op land Tijdens deze workshop hoort u hoe de business case van een windpark in elkaar zit. Wat verandert er nu coöperaties een steeds grotere rol krijgen en de omgeving steeds meer vraagt om het lokaal delen van de opbrengsten? 25% weggeven aan de lokale samenleving lijkt de nieuwe standaard. Hoe beïnvloedt dit de business case? Een spoedcursus voor lokale overheden en beginnende en gevorderde initiatiefnemersontwikkelaars. C3. The long term wind energy agenda, alternative offshore energy & wind turbine technology The next generation of wind turbines & blades. The successor of wind turbines and alternatives like kites and planes. The developments in wind turbine technology. What are the most outstanding innovations? And what are the medium and long term innovation challenges when wind energy is to provide more than 30% of the total energy demand? Take a look into the future, together with the PHD@Sea program. C4. Balance of plant & integration of wind turbine and support structures The newest insights on balance of plant and cables. Subjects that will be covered in this session are: floating foundations, integration of wind turbines & support structures and scour protection. C5. Challenges for the energy transition III: The grid Wind (and Solar) Energy are frequently dubbed local energy sources, which sometimes gives the idea that less power transport is needed. The reality however is that the grid has been designed for regional (large scale) powerplants that distribute power relatively close by. In our future energy system (wind) power is likely going to be produced on a vast number of locations that lie geographically further away from is users (e.g. off and close to shore, while users are more inland), can the grid be adapted fast enough to keep up with this change? How do we keep the grid affordable? How do manage the intermittency of weather dependent power? And will the grid be able to uptake all of the electricity generated offshore? 6 D1. Welke rol neemt de gemeente? Een gemeente kan kiezen uit verschillende rollen en verantwoordelijkheden bij de ontwikkeling van een windproject. In deze workshop bespreken wethouders en deskundigen vragen als: Hoeveel initiatief en leiderschap kan de gemeente nemen? Welke rol speelt de lokale coöperatie? Wat zijn de voor en nadelen van verschillende rollen voor de gemeente en haar bewoners? D2. Lokale betrokkenheid en coöperaties Buren en omwonenden staan niet altijd te juichen bij plannen voor een nieuw windproject. Hoe voer je een constructieve dialoog met alle betrokkenen? Hoe voorkom je escalatie? Welke ervaringen zijn er in de loop der jaren opgedaan? Wat betekent participatie voor de acceptatie van wind? Nederland kent meer dan 350 duurzame energiecoöperaties. Welke rol spelen zij bij de lokale klimaatplannen? Enkele coöperaties delen hun ervaringen, gevolgd door een dialoog met gemeenten, ontwikkelaars en andere coöperaties. D3. Operations and maintenance We have to develop an alternative Operations & Maintenance philosophy. We will explore selfrepairing turbines, robotics, condition monitoring, remote inspection with drones and/or sensors and predictive maintenance D4. Offshore wind resource Information on offshore wind resources is important. Get more insight in DOWA, wake effects, measurement infrastructure of wind resource and the Dutch offshore wind atlas. D5. Innovation: Demonstrating and testing The outcome of the Borssele V tender. The ECN test field and other pilot and demonstration fields. And will there be an Hollandse Kust site V with demonstration opportunities? E1. Regionale energie en klimaatstrategieën Regio s en gemeenten krijgen in de visie van NWEA een sleutelrol bij de realisatie van de nationale klimaatdoelen. Windenergie is één van de goedkoopste technieken om veel CO2 te besparen. Maar hoe ga je om met de nadelen van windenergie, met de ruimtelijke dilemma s, met effecten voor de omgeving? Hoe komen regionale plannen tot stand? Op welke manier moet de samenwerking ingericht worden? En hoe worden de plannen uitgevoerd? E2. Omgevingswet: Hoe werkt de planologische procedure? Hoe kan een windenergieproject voldoen aan de eisen uit de nieuwe omgevingswet? Hoe kies je de juiste procedure en hoe komt optimale samenwerking tussen omgeving, overheid en initiatiefnemer tot stand. Juristen en planologen gaan in op casestudies en beantwoorden vragen uit het publiek. E3. Decommissioning/ reuse parts of turbines, life time extension Can support structures or cables be reused? What to do with all the blades? Can parts of wind turbines be reused after decommissioning? What can the wind energy sector learn from other industries e.g. the automotive industry. E4. Ports, vessels and installation What infrastructure and vessels are needed to build offshore wind farms? What is the best way to do so? And what is the expected role of the Dutch ports in this? E5. Market models and models for financing Subsidy schemes of several countries will be compared. Furthermore The options for Corporate PPAs etc. PPA s, project finance, cost reduction LCoE, total system costs, insurance, risk based asset management. 7 F1. Hoe ziet ons (energie)landschap er straks uit? Hoe ziet Nederland er in 2030 of 2050 uit? Wat betekent de energietransitie voor onze ruimtelijke ordening, stedenbouw en onze landschappen? Wat zijn de maatschappelijke en economische gevolgen daarvan? Landschapsarchitecten, energiedeskundigen en beleidsmakers nemen u mee naar de toekomst. F2. Technische verbeteringen en kostprijsreductie Fabrikanten, ontwikkelaars en onderzoekers tonen de laatste trends en recente ontwikkelingen van windturbines. Welke kansen zijn er voor wind op land turbines op het gebied van aerodynamica, bladontwerp, generator, geluidsreductie, kostprijsverlaging, logistiek en funderingen? F3. Suppliers to the wind sector Innovative parts for wind energy. Sometimes the biggest innovations are done in the smallest parts. Time to meet the innovative suppliers in the wind sector in the innovation challenge! F4. Offshore ecology and nature Building offshore wind farms has a large effect on the surroundings. For example the underwater sound during the construction of offshore wind farms, the creation of breeding grounds for fish and seaweed around the foundations. And there are also rules to keep in mind such as the guideline bird habitat. Gain more insights on all these subjects during this session. F5. Which session are you missing?
