Its increasing importance creates a strong demand for highly educated professionals with a thorough understanding of the technical, behavioural and contextual aspects of project management. The Master of Project program prepares upcoming project managers for this demanding task. The program is an essential contribution to the development of project management as a profession. Its focus on sustainability in project management, offers a unique opportunity for project managers to develop themselves as highly qualified readyfor-the-future professionals and as thought leaders in the innovation of organizing change. The 2-year part-time program is open to professionals holding a Bachelor s or Master s degree, whose career ambitions and motivation lie in the area of managing projects and organizational change. It is essential that you have at least 2 years of relevant project-related work experience and still work in a relevant project-related environment. The Master of Project program has been developed in close cooperation with leading services companies in the project management field, such as Sogeti, Getronics, Van Aetsveld, Logica, Yacht and Expecto. These companies recognize the need and potential for this Master program and acknowledge its surplus value compared to other project management trainings. In the program, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences Utrecht cooperates with leading international universities in the field of project management in the PMUni network. 4 Program information Opleidingsinformatie The Master of Project answers the present and future demands of the project management professional. The main orientation of the program is on organizational projects, aimed at implementing business processes, new services, organizational change, ICT systems, and etcetera. The program combines academic knowledge, practical application and personal skills in order to obtain professional project management competences. Competences The curriculum of the Master of Project is developed with the IPMA International Competence Baseline 3 (ICB3) in mind, with addition of reflective and innovative aspects. The program highlights both the inside-out and the outside-in perspectives on projects and project management. The program therefore covers both technical and contextual project management competences. The third group of competences, the behavioural competences, is covered in the organizational change and personal skills courses. The innovative aspect of the program is shown by the addition of academic competences and research skills. After completion of the program, the student is not just a more complete project manager. He or she is also a mature professional; capable of reflec ting on the everyday practice and having a (positive) critical attitude towards assumed best practices. These professionals are capable of conceptual thinking and can add evidence based knowledge to the knowledge-base of project management. Sustainable Project A third innovative aspect of the program is its focus on sustainable project manage ment. This central theme of the program was born out of the notion that projects have their context. Projects are processes of change within organizations. Change that aims at realizing organizational strategies or goals. But also change that effects the behaviour of people inside or outside the organization. Project managers are responsible to keep the balance between the result of a project and its internal and external aspects and effects. De Master of Project opleiding richt zich op de eisen die aan projectmanagement professionals gesteld worden, nu en in de toekomst. De studie is gericht op bedrijfskundige projecten, bijvoorbeeld de invoering van bedrijfsprocessen, nieuwe producten of diensten, organisatieveranderingen of informatiesystemen. Het programma combineert academische kennis, praktische toepassing en persoonlijke vaardigheden om hoogwaardige projectmanagement competenties te ontwikkelen. Competenties Het curriculum van de Master of Project is ontwikkeld op basis van de IPMA International Competence Baseline 3 (ICB3), waaraan de aspecten reflectie, onderzoek en innovatie zijn toegevoegd. De opleiding belicht zowel de inside-out als de outside-in zienswijze van projecten en projectmanagement. In het programma is dit vormgegeven door naast de technische competenties van de projectmanager, ook de contextuele competenties op te nemen. De derde competentiegroep, de gedragscompeten ties, komt aan de orde in de verander kundige en persoonlijke vaardigheden modules van de opleiding. Het innovatieve karakter van de opleiding komt onder andere naar voren in de toevoeging van onderzoekscompetenties en academische vaardigheden. Na afronding van de master is de student niet alleen een completere projectmanager. Hij of zij is ook in staat te reflecteren op ontwikkelingen in de praktijk en nieuwe evidence-based kennis toe te voegen aan de bestaande body-of-knowledge van het vakgebied. Duurzaam projectmanagement Een derde innovatief aspect van de opleiding is de aandacht voor duurzaamheid in het centrale thema: Sustainable Project. Dit thema is geboren vanuit de visie dat projecten niet op zich staan. Projecten zijn veranderingen in of tussen organisaties. Veranderingen die bijdragen aan de strategie of doelen van een organisatie. Maar ook veranderingen die effect hebben op personen, middelen en bronnen, binnen én buiten de organi satie. De projectmanager dient oog te hebben voor deze effecten van het project én het projectresultaat. Duurzaamheid is hierbij het leidende criterium. Duurzaamheid in de betekenis van evenwicht tussen

5 Just keeping track of time, cost and quality therefore doesn t cut it anymore. The project manager of tomorrow should also take responsibility for the result he or she realizes. And sustainability is an important criterion for this result. Sustainability in the meaning of the balance between economical, environmental and social aspects of the result. But also sustainability in the meaning of having created real change. Organisation and course load The Master Project is a 2 years part-time program. Each year consists of 4 blocks of 9 weeks. One block contains 2 courses on professional competences. One course in the afternoon (14.30 h h.) and one course in the evening (18.15 h h.). Lectures take place each Wednesday. The first 7 weeks of each block are filled with lectures. Week 8 and 9 are for The complexity of project management today requires a master project manager to handle. De projectmanager van de toekomst is (mede-) verantwoordelijk voor het resultaat dat het project realiseert. Organisatie en studielast De Master of Project kent een 2-jarig parttime programma. Een studiejaar bestaat uit vier blokken van 9 weken. In ieder blok volgt de student twee modules. Iedere module bestaat uit 7 colleges, die op de woensdagmiddag en -avond gevolgd worden. Eén module van u. tot u. en één module van u. tot u. De weken 7 en 8 van ieder blok worden gebruikt voor de afronding van opdrachten en examens. Naast deze colleges op woensdag, volgt de student per blok één cursusdag in de Project Skills module die gedurende de gehele opleiding gevolgd wordt. De studielast van de opleiding bedraagt circa 20 uur per week, inclusief het volgen van de colleges, lesvoorbereiding, opdrachten en de thesis. Thesis De opleiding wordt afgesloten met een thesis. Deze thesis vormt de masterproef van de opleiding, waarin de student demonstreert dat hij de beoogde kennis en competentie heeft verworven. De thesis rapporteert een onderzoeksproject, dat bij voorkeur binnen de eigen werkomgeving kan worden uitgevoerd. Taal Alle literatuur en studiematerialen zijn in de Engelse taal. De colleges zijn in beginsel in het Engels, tenzij alle studenten Nederlandstalige zijn. Docententeam Het docententeam van de master is samengesteld als een mix van academici en ervaren praktijkmensen. De docenten zijn thought leader op hun specifieke deelgebied van projectmanagement en publiceren regelmatig vakartikelen en boeken. Supervisie en begeleiding Iedere student krijgt tijdens de studie een coach toegewezen voor het reflecteren op het eigen leerproces, de toepassing hiervan en studiegerelateerde persoonlijke zaken. De algehele studievoortgang wordt bewaakt door de opleidingsmanager. Digitale leeromgeving De Master of Project is ontwikkeld als een blended programma van groepsgewijs onderwijs, persoonlijke coaching en collegiaaal leren. Studenten kunnen beschikken over een digitale

Next to the lectures, students have one full day of the Project Skills course, which runs through the entire course, per block. A global indication of the total course load is 20 hours per week, including attending classes, private study, practical assignments, participating in project groups and the thesis. Thesis During the final half-year of the program you will be expected to write a thesis, the contents of which prove that you have mastered the skills and abilities covered. The thesis is based on a research and development project, preferably in your own work environment. Language All literature, study materials and lectures in the master are provided in the English language. Faculty Lecturers in the master come from an academic or a practitioner background. They are thought-leaders in their distinctive field and publish regularly in academic or professional media. Supervision Students get a personal coach on work related matters, as well as personal study related coaching. A special supervisor is appointed for the thesis. Overall supervision is in the hands of the program manager and the teaching staff. Learning environment The master offers a blended model of classroom teaching, individual coaching and peer supervision. A supportive digital learning environment is provided for sharing course information and materials, literature, discussion platforms et cetera. ICT facilities as well as social activities of students and staff support and stimulate community building within the master program. Quality The quality of the program is monitored by the quality standards and systems of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. For the Master of Project an independent Advisory Board is installed which advises on the content and organization of the program. 7 Application and admission Aanmelding en toelating Admission to this master course is subject to the following prerequisites: you hold a bachelor s degree; you have at least two years of projectrelated work experience; you work in an environment appropriate to the degree profile; you have a prerequisite knowledge of project management on the level of Prince2 foundation or IPMA D; you have a good command of English, both written and spoken. After application you will follow an intake procedure, during which also your motivation and personal ambition will be discussed. Qualification On successful completion of this course, you are awarded the title of Master of Project (MPM). The Master of Project is a Professional Master. The program has an orientation on the profession and has a clear relationship with the current professional practice. The program is scientific, since by including research competences, it meets the requirements of the academic master level. Tuition fee The tuition fee for the two-year program is per year. This includes enrolment and teaching costs, course materials, software licenses, catering, and the use of college facilities. Costs for the International week are not included. Behalve beroepsgericht, is de studie ook wetenschappelijk van aard omdat in de eindtermen van de studie, de voor het masterniveau benodigde wetenschappelijke competenties zijn opgenomen. Collegegeld Het collegegeld voor het 2-jarige programma bedraagt per jaar. Hierin zijn de kosten van boeken, hand-outs, catering en het gebruik van de Hogeschool Utrecht faciliteiten inbegrepen.
