1 Machiel Hermans Kandidaatsnummer: 1 Beste medestudenten, Van 20 tot en met 23 april wordt de campus weer overspoeld met groene en blauwe vesten. In deze periode mogen jullie weer gebruik maken van jullie stemrecht! Echter, de aloude vraag van veel studenten blijft staan. Wat is nou precies het verschil tussen en Fractie SAM? Dit zal ik illustreren aan de hand van mijn eigen keuze voor. Mijn naam is Machiel Hermans, ik ben een 20-jarige betrokken bestuurskundestudent. Net als velen vrees ik de krappe arbeidsmarkt op dit moment. De tijd dat een diploma direct resulteerde in een baan is voorbij. De tijd om je te onderscheiden tussen honderden sollicitanten is aangebroken. Veel ontwikkelingen zijn echter gaande die zelfontplooiing dat juist nu nodig is onmogelijk lastig maken. De universiteit wordt een leerfabriek met veel verplichtingen, zodat de universiteit haar prestatieafspraken maar kan halen. Het gat tussen de universiteit en de arbeidsmarkt wordt alleen maar groter. zet zich al jaren in om dit gat te verkleinen onder het mom van de actieve student. Geen verplichte colleges, stages inruilen voor keuzevakken, 21th century skills integreren in het curriculum, Word Actief beleid, dat is Front! Studentenbelang boven financieel belang. Voor het collegejaar verwerf ik graag een zetel in de universiteitsraad om deze visie uit te dragen. De aloude vraag die in de inleiding geschetst is, zou echter geen vraag moeten zijn. Een orgaan dat de vertegenwoordiging is van alle studenten aan Tilburg University moet gekend zijn door de kiezers. Bij mijn stage bij de griffier van de provincie Noord-Brabant, voorzitter van de facultaire medezeggenschapsfractie Vrijspraak en lid van de kwaliteitskring van de TSPB heb ik gezien hoe op grote en kleine schaal belangen vertegenwoordigd worden en mensen bij de besluitvorming betrokken worden. Voor medezeggenschapsraden valt hier nog veel ruimte te winnen. De communicatie jegens studenten dient verbeterd te worden en studenten dienen uitgenodigd te worden om hun mening te geven, via enquêtes of gewoon op de campus tijdens zichtbaarheidsdagen. Niet alleen zichtbaar tijdens de verkiezingsweek, maar altijd! Jouw stem telt, niet alleen van 20 tot en met 23 april, maar altijd! Stem Front!

2 Machiel Hermans election list: 1 Dear fellow students, From the 20th of April until the 23rd of April you can vote for the university council! However, an old question of many students remains. What is the difference between student party Front and student party SAM? I will illustrate that with the reason why I have chosen for student party front! My name is Machiel Hermans and I am a 20 years old public administration student. Like many students I am scared for the labour market nowadays. With your degree you won t get a job directly anymore. Furthermore a few developments are going on that make selfdevelopment extremely hard in a time when it is the most needed. The university becomes a study factory in a way that performance measures can be achieved. The gap between the university and the labour market becomes bigger and bigger. For years student party Front is trying to lower that gap with active student as focus point. No mandatory attendance at lectures, trade elective courses for internships, integrating 21th century skills into the curriculum, be active policy, that is Front! Needs of the students above financial needs. I would like to implement this way of view during the academic year The remaining question at the beginning shouldn t be a question at all. A council that represents all the students of Tilburg University should be known by his voters. During my internship at the province Noord-Brabant, period of chairman of Vrijspraak and member of the kwaliteitskring of the TSPB I have seen how interests are represented and people were involved in the policy making on small scale as well as on a large scale. For the representing councils at the university there is a lot of space left. The communication towards students can be improved. Furthermore the students should be invited to give their opinion, not only with surveys, but also on the campus! Not only visible during the elections week, but always. Your vote counts, not only during the week of elections. But always! Vote Front!

3 Fleur Groeneweg Kandidaatsnummer: 2 Ik ben Fleur Groeneweg, 23 jaar en ik studeer Bestuurskunde. Na een jaar thuis gewoond te hebben, ben ik in mijn tweede jaar op kamers gegaan. Ik wilde graag een actief studentenleven en ben daarom lid geworden van de studentenverenging T.S.C. St. Olof. Ik heb hier al verschillende commissies mogen bekleden en op dit moment ben ik voorzitster van het maandblad. Ik vind het belangrijk dat studenten serieus genomen worden, dat geluiden vanuit studenten worden opgevangen en dat er ook daadwerkelijk mee aan de slag wordt gegaan. Ik wil daarom graag een zetel in de Universiteitsraad voor om ervoor te zorgen dat de belangen van de studenten worden behartigd. Voornamelijk de actieve studenten. Het is vaak niet genoeg om alleen te studeren. Je studie biedt je de academische kennis, maar er is meer dan alleen colleges volgen en tentamens maken. Je moet je ook op andere vlakken ontwikkelen die je niet in de collegezalen leert. Actief zijn naast je studie zorgt ervoor dat je jezelf ontwikkelt op persoonlijk en academisch vlak. Daarnaast leer je veel nieuwe mensen kennen en uit ervaring weet ik dat het hebben van een groot netwerk veel voordelen oplevert. Ik vind het belangrijk dat studenten naast hun studie actief zijn én dit ook kunnen zijn. Vandaar dat ik een grote tegenstander ben van verplichte colleges als het alleen om kennisoverdracht gaat. Deze colleges beperken je in het actieve studentenleven en dus in je ontwikkeling. Ik heb altijd al interesse gehad in bestuur en het politieke spel daarom heen. Door mijn studie is deze interesse alleen maar groter geworden. Ik kijk er naar uit om mee te beslissen en initiatiefvoorstellen in te dienen over zaken die studenten graag zien veranderen op de universiteit. Stem op nummer 2, verplichte colleges weg er mee! 4 election list: 2 Fleur Groeneweg I am Fleur Groeneweg, 23 years old and I study public administration (Bestuurskunde). In my first academic year I lived with my parents. The second year I moved to Tilburg, I wanted an active studentlife and that's why I joined the student association T.S.C. St. Olof. I have participated in various committees and I am currently the chairman of the monthly magazine of our association. I think it is important that students are taken seriously. Tips and complaints from students must be taken serious. These have to be collected and put into work. Therefore, I would like to be a member of the University Council to make sure that the interest of students are represented. Especially the active students. Nowadays, it is often not enough to just study. Your study offers the academic knowledge, but there is more than just lectures and examination. You need to develop yourself in other areas which you won't learn in lectures or from study books. Being an active student, besides your study, ensures that you develop on a personal and academic level. In addition, you will learn a lot of new people and I have experienced that creating and having a large network will provide many benefits. It's important that students will be able to be active besides their study and will broaden their activities. That is why I am an opponent of mandatory lecture when it's intended solely as information transfer. These lectures limit you in the possibility to have an active student life and so in your development and network. I have always been interested in management and the political game around it. Through my studies, this interest has grown. I'm really looking forward to participate in decisions and initiative proposals on issues that students like to see changing on the university! 5 Lisanne Swager Kandidaatsnummer: 3 Beste mede-student, Mijn naam is Lisanne Swager en ik ben derdejaars studente Personeelwetenschappen. Ik ben sinds een aantal jaar lid van T.S.R. Vidar en actief bij damesdispuut Papillon. De afgelopen twee jaar ben ik lid geweest van Stimulus, de faculteitsraad van TSB. Hier heb ik mij ingezet voor de belangen van de studenten van deze faculteit. Volgend collegejaar wil ik niet alleen hun belangen behartigen, maar de belangen van alle studenten van Tilburg University. Studenten kunnen vanuit hun perspectief een frisse én kritische blik werpen op de gang van zaken bij onze universiteit. Daarom vind ik het belangrijk dat zij medezeggenschap hebben en dat hun stem meetelt bij de besluitvorming. Hoewel organisatorische aspecten van een universiteit erg belangrijk zijn, moeten we overigens niet vergeten waar het uiteindelijk om draait: onderwijs van hoge kwaliteit en de ontwikkeling van de student. Studeren is meer dan alleen naar college gaan en boeken lezen. Studeren is jezelf ontwikkelen, jezelf ontplooien. Je studententijd is een unieke kans om naast je studie actief te worden. Om binnen het onderwijsbeleid van Tilburg University voldoende ruimte te kunnen maken voor deze en andere ontplooiingsmogelijkheden, zouden colleges niet verplicht moeten zijn en videocolleges beschikbaar moeten zijn. Extra curriculaire activiteiten bieden studenten de mogelijkheid om zich voor te bereiden op situaties die ze later in hun werkveld ook tegen zouden kunnen komen. Iets wat mijns inziens in lijn licht met het motto van Tilburg University: Understanding Society. Daarnaast vind ik het belangrijk dat er helder naar de studenten gecommuniceerd wordt. Niet alleen met betrekking tot grote veranderingen, zoals wijzigingen in het curriculum, maar ook wanneer het gaat over verwachtingen vanuit de universiteit of eoordelingscriteria. Mijns inziens is de Universiteit het verplicht aan alle studenten om heldere, juiste en transparante informatie te verschaffen. Voor mij is dit vanzelfsprekend, maar in de praktijk is deze situatie nog mijlenver weg. Ik maak voor jou die afstand kleiner! Stem op Lisanne Swager #3!

6 Lisanne Swager election list: 3 Dear fellow student, My name is Lisanne Swager. I m a third year Human Resource Studies student. I m a member of Student Rowing Association Vidar for several years and of an active member of sorority Papillon. For the past two years I ve been active as a member of Stimulus, the faculty council of Tilburg Schoul of Social and Behavioral Sciences. In this position, I put effort looking after student s interests of this faculty. Upcoming year, I would like to represent the interests of all students of Tilburg University. Students can take a refreshing and critical look at the university s daily business from their unique point of view. Therefore I find it extremely important that they are represented and that their voices are heard during the decision-making process. Although the organizational aspects of the University are very important, we should not lose sight of the importance of the University s core business, which includes high quality education and the development of the student. Being a student involves more that going to lectures and reading books. Being a student is to develop yourself, to flourish yourself. Your student life is an unique opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities prepare students for a better connection between their education and the labour market. This is in line with Tilburg University s motto: Understanding Society. Therefore lectures should not be mandatory and video lectures should be provided. Communication is from Tilburg University on the address of the students is very important. Both big decisions like a change in the curriculum, as small decisions like expectations and evaluation criteria need to be communicated clearly. Student should know what to expect and how to anticipate. In my opinion, it is the obligation of Tilburg University to provide clear, true and transparent information. 7 Anne de Lange Kandidaatsnummer: 4 Beste medestudenten, Mijn naam is Anne de Lange, 21 jaar en ik ben vierdejaars Psychologie studente. Naast mijn studie ben ik sinds mijn tweede studiejaar actief lid van T.S.V. Plato waar ik me heb ingezet voor verschillende commissies binnen de vereniging en binnen mijn dispuut. Daarnaast hockey ik bij SHOT en heb ik afgelopen semester deelgenomen aan een exchange programma, waardoor ik 4 maanden in Canada heb gestudeerd. Al deze ervaringen hebben een enorme bijdrage geleverd aan mijn persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Door dit actieve studentenleven heb ik mogen ervaren dat je studententijd veel meer is dan boeken lezen, colleges bijwonen en hoge cijfers halen. Jezelf ontwikkelen buiten je studie is mijns inziens net zo belangrijk en misschien nog wel belangrijker dan je studie nominaal afronden. Het is erg belangrijk dat studenten zich kunnen ontplooien naast hun studie. Tilburg University moet hier studenten zo veel mogelijk de ruimte en mogelijkheid toe bieden en zich flexibel opstellen, wat ook past bij de missie Understanding Society. Studenten kunnen betrokken raken bij en bijdragen aan de maatschappij door extracurriculaire activiteiten. Daarbij worden door deze extra-curriculaire activiteiten, capaciteiten ontwikkeld die toepasbaar zijn in toekomstig werkveld. Ik ben van mening dat intensivering van het onderwijs niet mag leiden tot verschoolsing en dat de zelfstandigheid van de student gewaarborgd moet blijven. Verplichte vakken in het BSA en aanwezigheidsplicht bij colleges dragen hier naar mijn mening niet aan bij. Daarnaast moet internationalisering gesteund worden door onder andere voor alle faculteiten een exchange zonder studievertraging mogelijk te maken. Daarbij is goede communicatie tussen studenten en de universiteit van groot belang, deze zijn immers wederzijds van elkaar afhankelijk. Door duidelijke communicatie weten beiden wat er van hun verwacht wordt. Ik wil me komend jaar graag inzetten voor bovenstaande speerpunten en jullie vertegenwoordigen in de universiteitsraad. Ik ga graag de uitdaging aan en wil mijn enthousiasme inzetten om samen met the Extra Mile te gaan! Stem 20 t/m 23 april, nummer 4!

8 Anne de Lange election list: 4 Dear fellow students, My name is Anne de Lange, I am 21 years old and I m a fourth year Psychology student. Alongside my regular study program, I have been an active member of the student association T.S.V. Plato since my second study year, where I ve participated in several committees of the association itself and committees within my sorority. Besides that, I play field hockey at SHOT and I ve studied in Canada for four months, due to an exchange program I ve participated in past semester. All these experiences have contributed a great deal to my personal development. Because of this active student life, I ve had the chance to experience that your student days are a lot more than reading books, attending lectures and getting good grades. Developing yourself alongside your study program is, in my view, as important as and maybe even more important than getting your degree as fast as possible. It is very important that students have the opportunity to develop themselves beyond their study program. Tilburg University has to provide its students with the freedom to do so, and has to have a flexible attitude. This fits in with the university s mission: Understanding Society. Students can get involved with, and contribute to the society, by participating in extra-curricular activities. In addition, by participating in these activities, students will develop capacities which can be applied in the future work field. I believe that intensification of education may not result in a static study climate. Independency of the students must still be guaranteed. Mandatory courses in the BSA and mandatory presence in lectures do not contribute to that in my opinion. Besides that, internationalization should be supported by making it possible for all faculties to go on an exchange program without a study delay. Good communication between the students and the university is very important in this respect, because these two are mutually dependent on each other. By means of clear communication, both parties will know what is expected of them. I want to do my best this coming year to represent your interests in the points mentioned above and represent you in the University Council. 9 Nikki Verheijen Kandidaatsnummer: 5 Ik ben Nikki Verheijen, 23 jaar en studente Psychologie. Naast mijn studie ben ik actief binnen stichting Word Actief Tilburg en T.S.T.V. Lacoste. Daarnaast hoop ik jullie volgend jaar te mogen vertegenwoordigen in de universiteitsraad. Naar mijn mening draait je studententijd niet alleen maar om het feit dat je keurig netjes je punten behaald. Studeren is zoveel meer, en het mooie aan Tilburg is dat het talrijke mogelijkheden bezit en er zodoende voor elke student iets bij zit. Actief zijn naast je studie levert je niet alleen een hele hoop nieuwe en leuke contacten op, het is ook dé ultieme manier om jezelf te ontwikkelen. Soft skills, die je voornamelijk tijdens je actieve studententijd ontwikkeld, maken naar mijn mening deel uit van je totale academische ontwikkeling en zal je in je professionele leven dagelijks nodig hebben. Tilburg University moet studenten daarom de ruimte bieden om zichzelf te ontplooien en verder te kijken dan hun eigen studie. Daarnaast acht ik de betrokkenheid van de universiteit bij studenten en visa versa van groot belang. Wanneer studenten zich betrokken en gehoord voelen komt dit de universiteit alleen maar ten goede. Ik denk, dat dit een wisselwerking moet zijn waar goed op ingespeeld kan én moet worden. Communicatie en informatievoorzieningen spelen hierbij een grote rol. Studenten moeten helder en tijdig op de hoogte worden gehouden van de veranderingen op de universiteit, of deze verandering nu op facultair of universitair niveau is. Ook moeten studenten duidelijk weten waar zij terecht kunnen bij het ondervinden van problemen. Tot slot wil ik nog vermelden dat de campus van Tilburg University iets is om trots op te zijn als universiteit en dat deze zeker gewaarborgd moet worden. De langere openingstijden van de universiteitsbibliotheek waar voorheen voor heeft gestreden dragen bij aan het campusgevoel en ik denk dat er nog meer zaken zijn waar winst bij te betalen valt. 10 Nikki Verheijen candidate list: 5 My name is Nikki Verheijen, 23 years old and I am a student psychology. Besides my study I am actively involved in foundation Word Actief Tilburg and tennis association TSTV Lacoste. Next year I hope to represent you in the university council at Tilburg University! In my opinion, being a student isn t all about getting good grades. Studying is so much more than that. Tilburg has so many possibilities for every student to choose from. Actively participating in activities besides your study does not only get you in touch with other people, but is also the perfect way to develop yourself. Soft skills, which are mostly developed during your active studentship, are in my opinion part of your total academic development and you will need these in your future professional life. For this reason Tilburg University should offer students possibilities for self-development, and look further than just their own study. Furthermore, I believe that the involvement of the university with its students and vice-versa is of great importance. When students feel heard and are involved it is the university that benefits from this. I think that this interaction should and has to be anticipated. Communication and information both have a crucial role in this. Students have to be clearly and timely informed to changes at the university, on both faculty and university levels. Additionally, it has to be clear to the students where they have to go when they are encountering problems. Last but not least I would like to mention that the campus of Tilburg University is something we all can be proud of and that it should be cherished. The longer hours of the university library that fractie Front accomplished is just one of the points that contribute to the campus feeling, and tackling more of these points will strengthen it even more. 11 Ruben Mulder Kandidaatsnummer: 6 Beste medestudent, We leven in moeilijke tijden. De concurrentie om arbeidsplaatsen na de studie wordt steeds groter. Bedrijven zijn steeds meer op zoek naar studenten die the extra mile zijn gegaan. Het is daarom van essentieel belang om jezelf naast je studie te ontwikkelen om jezelf daarna te kunnen onderscheiden. Tilburg University erkent dat deze vorm van zelfontplooiing belangrijk is voor jou als persoon en voor je potentiële carrière, hier ben ik het volkomen mee eens. Optimale ondersteuning en betere faciliteiten tijdens je studententijd zijn voor die ontwikkeling van essentieel belang. Meer colleges opnemen om flexibel te kunnen studeren. Meer studieplekken realiseren. Betere communicatie tussen student en universiteit. Het kunnen deelnemen aan meer carrièregerichte activiteiten. Commissies om jezelf in te ontwikkelen en netwerkborrels om je kenniskring te vergroten. Dat biedt onze partij,. Wij nemen de verantwoordelijkheid en zijn jouw aanspreekpunt zodat je alles uit jezelf en je studententijd kan halen. Wij willen je hierbij ondersteunen en optimaal faciliteren. Tilburg University is een van de weinige universiteiten waar de student in de universiteitsraad echt iets te zeggen heeft. Daarom kunnen we samen onze doelen ook daadwerkelijk nastreven en realiseren. Het werk dat Front de laatste jaren heeft verricht, begint nu zijn vruchten af te werpen. De studiefaciliteiten worden steeds beter. Tijdens deze mooie lentedagen begint de campus zelfs te stralen. Met zicht op economische groei hebben we ook zicht op een gunstige arbeidsmarkt om fantastische doelen te realiseren. Maar we zijn er nog niet. We moeten nu doorzetten. Dat is waar deze verkiezingen over gaan. Wij zijn vastberaden jou optimaal te ondersteunen in jouw ontwikkeling om samen in de toekomst iets voor de medemens te kunnen betekenen. 12 Ruben Mulder election list: 6 Dear fellow student, We live in hard times. The competition between students for future jobs is increasingly getting fiercer. Most companies are looking for students who have gone the extra mile in their student years. Therefore it is essential to develop yourself beside your study to distinguish yourself afterwards. Tilburg University acknowledges that this form of self-development is essential for you as a person and for your potential career. I totally agree on that point. Optimal support and better facilities during your student time are key for this type of development. More video lectures to make our study more flexible. Realizing more study places. Better communication between student and university. Participate in career oriented activities. Committees to develop yourself and networking drinks to make friends, meet new people and build a network. That is what offers. We take responsibility and are your point of contact so you can get the best out of yourself en out of your student time. We will fully support and optimally facilitate you on this journey. Tilburg University is one of the few universities where students have real influence and can actively participate in making policy. This results in the ability to achieve the goals we have in mind. The work performed in the past years is now really paying off. Student facilities are getting better and better. During these beautiful spring days the campus is even starting to shine. With economic growth dawning again, a favorable labour market is developing for those who have gone that extra mile! But we are not there yet. We have to persist. 13 Basten Cobelens Kandidaatsnummer: 7 Beste studenten, "Je studententijd is de mooiste tijd van je leven", wordt vaak gezegd. Het studentenleven houdt daarom meer in dan slechts colleges volgen en studiepunten halen. Het is voor studenten belangrijk dat zij op exchange kunnen gaan, een stage kunnen volgen of actief kunnen worden bij een vereniging. Zo zorg je als student ervoor dat je studententijd de mooiste tijd van je leven wordt, maar ook de tijd waarin je wordt klaargestoomd voor de arbeidsmarkt. Het motto van onze universiteit, Understanding Society, sluit hier goed bij aan. De universiteit heeft de taak om zelfontplooiing te stimuleren bij studenten. Dit begint door middel van het aannemen van een flexibele houding. Door meer werkplekken te creëren, colleges op te nemen en niet meer verplicht te stellen, krijgt de student juist meer ruimte om het maximale uit zijn of haar tijd te halen. Daarnaast is een goede communicatie tussen studenten en de universiteit essentieel. Als studenten bijvoorbeeld in het buitenland willen gaan studeren of een pre-masterprogramma willen gaan volgen, dan moeten zij hierin ondersteund worden met behulp van een adequate informatievoorziening. Ik zal mezelf even voorstellen. Mijn naam is Basten Cobelens, derdejaars bachelor student Bestuurskunde. Naast mijn studie ben ik lid van D66 en T.S.V. Plato, waar ik me met veel plezier voor inzet. Hiernaast vertegenwoordig ik, lid zijnde van de faculteitsraad, met veel passie de studenten van Tilburg Law School. Ik heb hierbij gemerkt dat de mening van de student echt telt en het is ook in het belang van studenten dat zij goed vertegenwoordigd worden. Met dezelfde passie wil ik mij volgend jaar inzetten voor de belangen van alle studenten. Ik streef naar meer videocolleges, meer studieplekken en een betere communicatie naar studenten toe. 14 Basten Cobelens election list: 7 Dear Students, Being a student is the best time of your life is a well-known statement. Being a student goes beyond just studying and following lectures. It is important for students that they have the possibilities to be active within a student association, to study abroad or to complete an internship. This way, you will make the best out your student life and in the meanwhile, you are getting prepared for your future career. The slogan of our university, Understanding Society, connects well to this perspective. The university aims to stimulate personal development of students as much as possible. This starts with developing and maintaining a flexible attitude towards students. By providing more study areas, recording lectures and reducing the amount of obliged lectures, the university will create opportunities for students to get the most out of their time. Next to that, good communication is essential. Whether someone is considering a study abroad or a suitable pre-master, students need to get a complete insight in all adequate information. It is important that they are fully supported in such considerations. Let me introduce myself. My name is Basten Cobelens, currently a third year Public Administration student. Besides my study, I am a member of D66 and student association Plato. With much pleasure, I am actively involved in both. Also, I represent with great passion the students of Tilburg Law School. While doing so, I have noticed that every single opinion is meaningful. Therefore, it is of great importance that students are represented in a distinctive and visible way. With the same passion, I want to participate next year to represent the student s needs. I strive to record more lectures, create more workplaces and promote a better communication towards students. 15 Jan-Willem van Wouw Kandidaatsnummer: 8 Mijn naam is Jan-Willem van Wouw en ik ben een derdejaars student bedrijfseconomie. Op dit moment ben ik vicevoorzitter van debatvereniging Cicero en keeper van H1 van hockeyvereniging SHOT. Ik ben daarnaast erg trots om op de lijst van te staan. Een aantal zaken zou ik graag willen veranderen. Wij hebben als student een bepaalde verantwoordelijkheid: We moeten ons werk op tijd af hebben en we worden geacht correct Engels te spreken en schrijven. Dit geldt echter ook voor de docenten van Tilburg University en dit wordt helaas nog niet altijd nagekomen. Ik wil me sterk gaan maken om iedereen zijn verantwoordelijkheid na te laten komen. Het Prisma gebouw gaat binnenkort tegen de grond. Omdat op dit moment vaak een tekort is aan werkplekken in de bibliotheek is het essentieel dat er extra plekken beschikbaar worden gemaakt in het nieuwe gebouw dat in de plaats van Prisma komt. Ik probeer actief te zijn buiten mijn studie en daar heb ik tot nu toe geen spijt van gekregen. De beslissing van het huidige kabinet om het leenstelsel in te voeren zorgt er echter voor dat dit moeilijker zal worden voor toekomstige studenten. Ik hoop er tijdens mijn Front jaar voor te kunnen zorgen dat Tilburg University een plek is waar dit mogelijk blijft. Tilburg University is een goede universiteit met een mooie campus, om daar aan te blijven werken is input van de studenten essentieel. Ik kan niet wachten om een jaar van mijn studententijd te besteden aan het vormen van een brug tussen student en bestuur.

16 Jan-Willem van Wouw election list: 8 My name is Jan-Willem van Wouw and I am in my third year of the bachelor Business Economics. Currently I am the vice-president of debating society Cicero and goalkeeper at hockey club SHOT. I am proud to occupy the 8 th seat at. There are a number of things I personally find important. Students have a certain responsibility: We are supposed to deliver our work on time and we must have an acceptable grasp of the English language. This responsibility is shared by the teachers at Tilburg University, however they do not always uphold it. I stand for a university where everybody honors their responsibilities. The Prisma building will soon be demolished. At this moment there is sporadically a drastic shortage of workspace for students. It is of the essence that the building that will replace Prisma will contain substantial amounts of workspace in order to fulfill the requirements we currently have. Tilburg University has always been very open to international students and I believe they are an essential addition to what makes our university great. I hope to emphasize this during my time in the university council so Dutch students can continue to learn from international students and vice versa. Tilburg University is a good university with a beautiful campus. In order to keep improving this it is essential that we receive your input. I am excited to give it my very best to function as a bridge between students and management.

17 Nikki van der Meijs Kandidaatsnummer: 9 Beste medestudenten, Mijn naam is Nikki van der Meijs, 21 jaar en pre-master student Organization Studies. Afgelopen collegejaar heb ik mijn hbo-bachelor afgerond, tijdens deze studie heb ik al de belangen van studenten mogen behartigen op opleidings- en instituutsniveau. Hierin heb ik gemerkt hoe belangrijk de stem van de student is, maar daarnaast ook hoe interessant en leerzaam het is om actief te zijn naast je studie. Momenteel ben ik als student-panellid actief bij de NVAO om onafhankelijk te zorgen voor de kwaliteit van het hoger onderwijs. Ik vind het belangrijk dat de kwaliteit van onderwijs goed is en dat studenten de mogelijkheid krijgen om zich te onderscheiden door hun studie. Te onderscheiden door actief te zijn naast je studie, in verenigingen en commissies, maar ook door stage te lopen en op exchange te gaan. Voor mij is studeren het actief zijn op bestuurlijk niveau. Het meedenken, meepraten en meebeslissen binnen de universiteit, om zo de belangen van studenten te behartigen. Daarnaast ben ik voor het gebruik van videocolleges. Door het gebruik van videocolleges kunnen studenten, die actief zijn naast hun studie en niet aanwezig kunnen zijn tijdens het college, het college op een later moment volgen. Daarnaast kunnen de video s gebruikt worden tijdens het studeren voor tentamens. Doordat het belangrijk is om naast je studie actief te zijn, vind ik dat de universiteit geen verplichte colleges moet bieden. Deze zouden voor belemmeringen kunnen zorgen voor de actieve student. Communicatie tussen de universiteit en de student is een essentieel punt. Ik vind het belangrijk dat studenten zonder taalbarrières kunnen starten aan een studie. Tilburg University biedt veel pre-masters en masters aan in Engels, zodat ook internationale studenten deze kunnen volgen. Taalcursussen, aan het begin van het collegejaar, zitten echter vaak gelijk vol bij het moment van inschrijven, terwijl nieuwe studenten dan nog geen mogelijkheid hebben tot inschrijven. Ook vind ik dat docenten Engels op een goed niveau moeten beheersen, zodat dit geen belemmering kan zijn voor de student. Ik ga the extra mile, jij ook? Stem dan nummer 9 tussen 20 en 23 april!

18 Nikki van der Meijs election list 9 Dear fellow students, My name is Nikki van der Meijs, 21 years old and pre-master student Organization Studies. In the previous academic year, I graduated for the bachelor of the University of Applied science. During this study I participated in the departmental committee and the institute s council. I have noticed that the opinion of students certainly counts, but also how interesting and instructive an active student life is. Currently I participate by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlanders and Flanders to provide quality of higher education, at an independent position. In my opinion, it is important that the education is of high quality, but also that students have the opportunity to distinguish themselves. Students can distinguish themselves through being an active student, in associations and committees, but also through internships and by studying abroad. For me, as an active student, I would like to represent the students of Tilburg University in the university council. Besides that, I would like to see the use of video lectures by the university. Students who participate in associations or committees cannot always being present during lectures. Through the use of video lectures, students can watch the lectures at a later moment and students can also use the videos to study for exams. Active students will be able to study without barriers, through the use of video lecture and fewer mandatory lectures. Good functioning communication between the university and the student is essential. In my opinion it is important that students can study without language barriers. Tilburg University offers many pre-masters and master s degrees in English, so also international students can study at the university. Language courses at the beginning of the academic year are often immediately full at time of enrollment, while new students cannot enroll at that moment. Besides that, I also think that lecturers should speak English at a good level, so this cannot be an obstacle for students. I m going the extra mile, you too? Ik ben Bart Ruigrok, 22 jaar, momenteel derdejaars Econometrie studenten en voorzitter van Stichting Word Actief Tilburg (WAT). Mijn jaren als actieve student heb ik als enorm waardevol ervaren! WAT wil studenten laten inzien hoe belangrijk het is om actief te zijn en laten zien welke mogelijkheden daarvoor zijn. De kansen zijn er. Ons doel is om het je lastig te maken ze niet te benutten. My name is Bart Ruigrok, 22 years old, I currently am a third year student of Econometrics and the chairman of the Word Actief Tilburg Foundation (WAT). My years as an active student have been extremely valuable. WAT s goal is to make students aware of the importance of becoming active and show them all possibilities Tilburg has to offer. 21 Stijn van Heck Kandidaatsnummer: 11 Beste medestudenten, Mijn naam is Stijn van Heck, 20 jaar en ik zit in het derde jaar van de bachelor Organisatiewetenschappen. Op dit moment ben ik voorzitter van studievereniging POLIS, de studieverenigingen voor en door studenten Organisatiewetenschappen. Daarnaast neem ik namens de studieverenigingen van de TSB plaats in het bestuur van TiGeAk, de overkoepelende organisatie voor (studie)verenigingen aan Tilburg University. Vanuit TiGeAk coördineer ik stichting Word Actief Tilburg, een gezamenlijk initiatief van TiGeAk, SOTS en. Stichting Word Actief Tilburg (WAT) probeert studenten bewust te maken van de mogelijkheden om naast je studie actief te worden in een commissie of bestuur van een van de vele studentenverenigingen die Tilburg rijk is. Het ontwikkelen van competenties zoals: organiseren, netwerken, plannen, verantwoordelijkheid, onderhandelen en een kritische houding krijg je namelijk pas echt als je zelf activiteiten gaat aanpakken. Het actief deelnemen in een commissie of bestuur is dan ook essentieel voor de ontwikkeling van deze competenties. De afgelopen jaren heeft fractie Front zich al volop voor de actieve student ingezet. Mede dankzij fractie Front biedt Tilburg University actieve studenten steeds meer mogelijkheden om zich naast zijn of haar studie te ontwikkelen in een commissie of bestuur. 22 Stijn van Heck election list: 11 Dear fellow students, My name is Stijn van Heck, 20 years old and third year student Organizations Studies. At the moment I am chairman of study association POLIS, the study association for students Organization studies. As representative of the study-associations connected to the TSB I take place in the board of TiGeAk, the overarching organization for (study) associations connected to Tilburg University. As board member of TiGeAk I coordinate the Become Active Tilburg (WAT) foundation, a joint initiative of TiGeAk, SOTS and Front. Become Active Tilburg tries to raise awareness among students of the possibilities to develop yourself next to your study by joining a committee or a board at one of the numerous student associations located in Tilburg. The development of skills like: planning, networking, responsibility, negotiating, organizing and the creation of a critical attitude is a small selection of the skills learned when participating in a committee of board. In the last years Front strongly represented the interests of the active students in Tilburg. Partly due to Front the university offers students more and more opportunities to actively participate in a committee of board. By doing this students get the chance to develop themselves on organization and social level. Like Front, I am also great supporter of the opportunity to follow your minor courses abroad or on another faculty or university in the Netherlands. All those possibilities make it possible for students to personalize their study. As an active student I think it is important that the university highlights the advantages of becoming active and supports the students in their extra-curricular activities. 23 Pieter Winnemuller Kandidaatsnummer: 12 Beste medestudenten, Mijn naam is Pieter Winnemuller, op dit moment een vierdejaarsstudent Communicatieen Informatiewetenschappen. Al sinds het prille begin van mijn tijd in het gezellige Tilburg ben ik het belang en de voordelen in gaan zien van actief zijn naast je studie. Zo ben ik sinds 2012 actief binnen meerdere commissies van mijn studievereniging, Flow, en heb ik daar tevens de taak van vicevoorzitter vervuld gedurende het collegejaar Extra-curriculaire activiteiten zoals deze worden steeds belangrijker, zeker met het oog op het betreden van de arbeidsmarkt. Het is immers je cv waarmee jij jezelf onderscheidt ten opzichte van jouw medestudent! Daarnaast is het de perfecte manier om je niet alleen op academisch, maar ook op persoonlijk vlak te ontwikkelen. Het is daarom van groot belang dat de universiteit de kansen en mogelijkheden biedt om dit zo goed mogelijk te kunnen doen. Het tegengaan van verplichte colleges en de Word Actief Tilburgcommissie zijn voorbeelden waarop Front hieraan bijdraagt. Gedurende mijn bestuursjaar bij mijn studievereniging is ook de toestroom van internationale studenten me opgevallen. De visie van Tilburg University is de laatste jaren steeds internationaler geworden, iets dat behalve de uitwisselingsstudenten op de campus ook terug te zien is in het groeiende aantal Engelstalige opleidingen en cursussen. Een fatsoenlijk gebruik van de Engelse taal in de communicatie van de universiteit en door docenten moet daarom vanzelfsprekend worden om zowel de Nederlandse als de internationale student bij te kunnen staan! 24 Pieter Winnemuller election list: 12 Dear fellow students, My name is Pieter Winnemuller and at the moment I am a fourth year student Communication- and Information Sciences. Ever since I came to Tilburg, I began to see the importance of being an active student both on and off campus. Because of this, I have been a part of multiple committees within my study association, Flow, besides having fulfilled the position of vice chairman during Engaging in extra-curricular activities like this have become more and more important, especially with entering the job market is kept in mind. After all, the only thing that distinguishes you from your fellow students is your C.V.! 25 Martin Slaats Kandidaatsnummer: 13 Een stem op helpt de groenen niet alleen aan meer zetels, het helpt jou als student! Mijn naam is Martin Slaats en ben op dit moment mijn masters International and European Law en Rechtsgeleerdheid aan het afronden. Gedurende mijn studie ben ik actief geweest bij studievereniging Magister JFT, eerst als fractielid van Vrijspraak en later als voorzitter van de vereniging. Op dit moment ben ik studentadviseur van het Faculteitsbestuur van TLS, wat inhoudt dat ik de schakel vorm tussen de studenten en het bestuur van de faculteit. Iedere beslissing die gemaakt wordt op onze faculteit wordt ook tegen het licht gehouden vanuit het perspectief van de student via mijzelf of via de studentvertegenwoordiging van Vrijspraak. Wat ik gedurende mijn werk als studentadviseur gemerkt heb is dat de universitei zich teveel focust op procedures, de reguliere student en zij vergeet daarmee de belangen van specifiekere groepen, zoals internationale studenten of de actieve student. signaleert gelukkig deze problemen en stelt ze aan de kaak om voor verbetering te zorgen. Een concreet voorbeeld van het afgelopen jaar heeft betrekking op de behoeften van de internationale student. Tijdens een international lunch die we op TLS georganiseerd hadden gaven internationale studenten aan dat ze bij aankomst veel moeite hadden om betaalbare en goede woningen te vinden. Deze informatie hebben we onder andere naar Front doorgestuurd die deze problemen vervolgens aangekaart heeft en zelfs heeft opgenomen in het verkiezingsprogramma! Afgaande op mijn ervaringen met kan ik jullie verzekeren dat een stem op Front een stem is voor beter onderwijs, een bruisender studentenleven en aandacht voor iedere student. 26 Martin Slaats election list: 13 My name is Martin Slaats and I am currently finishing my masters in International and European Law and Dutch Law. Throughout my studies I became active in study association Magister JFT, first as member of party Vrijspraak and later as chairman of the daily board. Currently I am the student advisor of the faculty board of TLS. As student advisor of Tilburg Law School I am part of the board of the Law School where I am the bridge between the students and the Faculty Board. Every decision made at the faculty has been consulted with students, via myself or via party Vrijspraak, which represents the students of TLS. What I've seen in my work at the faculty is that the university focuses too much on the procedures, the regular student and sometimes even forgets groups of students, like international students or the active student. Fractie Front signals those problems and addresses them at a university-wide level. A concrete example from last year are the housing problems that international students still encounter when coming to the Netherlands. Together with Vrijspraak I organised an international lunch in which we asked the international student which problems they encounter when studying in the Netherlands. The housing problems were number 1 on the list and we communicated these problems towards party Front, who picked up the signal and made real progress on this matter. At the moment several initiatives throughout the campus are being set up to address these problems and the party programme entails a specific point on this matter! Based on my experiences with Front I can assure you that a vote on this party is a vote for a better student life, inclusion of every student and better education for all students. 27 Tim van Bavel Kandidaatsnummer: 14 Beste medestudenten, Mijn naam is Tim van Bavel, 22 jaar en studeer Psychologie. Dit jaar ben ik voorzitter van studentenvereniging I*ESN Tilburg en hiervoor ben ik op exchange geweest naar Zuid-Korea. Ik heb zelf mogen ervaren wat internationalisering met je leven kan doen en deze ervaring kan ik aan alle studenten aanraden. Mocht je de mogelijkheid krijgen op welke manier dan ook internationale ervaring op te doen dan pak die kans! Vanaf het moment dat ik ben gaan studeren wist ik dat actief zijn naast je studie belangrijk is voor zowel nu als later. Het maakt je studententijd niet alleen vele malen leuker, maar je leert er ook veel van. Daarnaast heeft het ook een grote invloed op de kans een baan te vinden. Ik steun, omdat ze staan voor datgene wat ik belangrijk vind voor studenten.

This year I m president of student association I*ESN Tilburg and I ve been on exchange to South Korea. I m experiencing what internationalization can do with your life and I can advise this for every student. From the moment I ve started studying I knew being active next to your study is of great importance for now and later as well. It doesn t only make your student time a lot more fun, but you also learn from it greatly. Next to that, it will also increase your chance of finding a job later on. 29 Loes van Bommel Kandidaatsnummer: 15 Mijn naam is Loes van Bommel en ik ben een derdejaars psychologiestudente. Vorig jaar was ik penningmeester bij studievereniging Complex. Tijdens mijn eerste jaar ben ik direct actief geworden bij de studiereiscommissie van Complex. Hier heb ik ontzettend veel mensen leren kennen. Na een jaar de studiereiscommissie te hebben gedaan, besloot ik om me een vol jaar in te zetten voor Complex. Dit jaar ben ik nog steeds erg actief binnen Complex. Ik ben er, door zowel persoonlijke ervaring als door verhalen van anderen, van overtuigd dat actief zijn binnen een vereniging een enorme toevoeging is op je studentenleven. zet zich veel in voor een actief studentenleven. Door mij in te zetten als lijstduwer voor hoop ik dat er in de toekomst veel meer studenten zullen kiezen voor een actief studentenleven.

During my first year I became active in the study trip committee at Complex, where I met a lot of people. Gedurende mijn gehele studententijd ben ik actief betrokken geweest in het Tilburgse studentenleven. Momenteel ben ik fractielid van Student Party ECCO, de studentenfractie in de faculteitsraad van de Tilburg School of Economics and Management en voorheen heb ik deel uit mogen maken van het bestuur van studievereniging Asset Accounting & Finance. Ik kan daarom uit ervaring spreken dat actief zijn naast je studie van enorm toegevoegde waarde is voor je persoonlijke ontwikkeling en je studententijd in zijn algemeen. Actieve studenten verbeteren continu de beleving van het Tilburgse studentenleven. Hierbij speel een grote rol en belangrijke rol. 33 Yannick van Moorsel Kandidaatsnummer: 17 Beste medestudenten, Ik zal mezelf voorstellen. Mijn naam is Yannick van Moorsel, 20 jaar oud en op dit moment ben ik tweedejaars student Personeelwetenschappen. Momenteel ben ik penningmeester bij studievereniging INPUT, waar ik vorig jaar ik ook actief was. Een bekende uitspraak is dat je studentijd de mooiste tijd van je leven is. Hier ben ik het volkomen mee eens. Door actief te zijn naast je studie ontplooi je jezelf, vergroot je je netwerk en doe je vaardigheden op die later bij je werk van pas komen. 34 Yannick van Moorsel election list: 17 Dear fellow students, Let me introduce myself. My name is Yannick van Moorsel, 20 years old and I am currently a second year Human resource studies student. At the moment I m treasurer at Study association INPUT. In my first year I decided to become active at INPUT and it was the best decision I ever made. 35 Giedrius Drulla election list: 18 Hey Students, Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Giedrius Drulia and I am a second year Liberal Arts and Sciences Student from Lithuania. Currently, I am a board member of ELSA (European Law Student Association) Tilburg responsible for student trainee exchange programme. The number of international students is growing every year and it makes our university even more open-minded and unusual. During past few years I have noticed how much Tilburg University has accomplished in creating international friendly environment. In my opinion it should not stop here as even more could be achieved during next academic year.
