Stellingen behorende bij het proefschrift: Spinal cord ischemia in thoracoabdominal aneurysm surgery: monitoring and conditioning the spinal cord. In een model van ischémie van het ruggemerg bij het konijn laten myogene motor evoked potentials een kortere latentietijd zien tussen ontstaan en detectie van ischémie dan motor evoked potentials die afgeleid worden van de lumbale epidurale ruimte (dit proefschrift). De huidige literatuur over farmacologische neuroprotectie bij experimentele ischémie van het ruggemerg rechtvaardigt vooralsnog geen grote farmacologische trial bij TAAA chirurgie (dit proefschrift). Myogene motor evoked potentials na transcraniële electrische stimulatie laten binnen enkele minuten een onderbreking van de bloedvoorziening naar het ruggemerg zien bij patiënten die TAAA chirurgie ondergaan (dit proefschrift). Drie tot vier graden temperatuur daling geeft reeds een sterke bescherming tegen de gevolgen van ruggemergs-ischemie bij het konijn (dit proefschrift). Bij een afname van de perfusiedruk van het ruggemerg bij het varken wordt de bloedvoorziening van het ruggemerg afhankelijk van segmentaal arteriën die in eerste instantie niet kritisch leken voor een adequate perfusie (dit proefschrift). Bewaking van het ruggemerg is alleen zinvol als beschermende technieken direct ter beschikking staan. Dwarslaesies na TAAA chirurgie zullen nooit helemaal te voorkomen zijn. Bij volwassenen met ongecompliceerde falciparum malaria wordt de glucose productie niet maximaal gestimuleerd, maar actief gereguleerd op een lager niveau (Evelien Dekker, proefschrift UVA 1996). Oddity is in the mind of the receiver. De enige reden om een PC in plaats van een Apple computer aan te schaffen is de grotere beschikbaarheid van spelletjes.
