1 Persbericht 19 februari 2013 Cft, SBTNO en DCAA organiseren seminar: Checks and Balances in Corporate Governance on Het College financieel toezicht (Cft), de Stichting Bureau Toezicht en Normering Overheidsentiteiten (SBTNO) en de Dutch Caribbean Accountants Association (DCAA) organiseren op donderdagmiddag 21 februari in Kurá Hulanda een seminar getiteld: Checks and Balances in Corporate Governance op. Het doel van het seminar is om de bewustwording van de Code Corporate Governance te vergroten en de verplichtingen van de overheidsvennootschappen en stichtingen te belichten. Tevens wordt ingegaan op de controlerende rol van de externe accountant. Sprekers Tijdens het seminar zullen verschillende sprekers van de respectievelijke organisaties ingaan op onderwerpen rond het thema. Namens het Cft zullen Erik van Engelen en Marloes Kempes een presentatie geven over de rol van de financiële toezichthouder ten aanzien van Corporate Governance. Donald de Palm (SBTNO) zal ingaan op de taken en werkzaamheden van de SBTNO en de verplichtingen van de regering en de entiteiten in deze. André Delger (DCAA) zal de rol van de externe accountant toelichten, de wettelijke taak die voor hem voortvloeit uit de Code en het belang van een uniforme aanpak en rapportage door de verschillende accountantskantoren. Gastspreker Karel Frielink zal ter afsluiting een lezing verzorgen over de actualiteit en de toekomst van de Code. Belang Het Cft, SBTNO en DCAA hebben een gemeenschappelijk belang in het stimuleren van de naleving van de wetgeving en de Code en beogen met de organisatie van het seminar ook een spin-off. Voor het Cft heeft dit betrekking op de verbetering van de naleving van de Corporate Governance wet- en regelgeving; voor de SBTNO het vergroten van de kennis en bewustwording van bestuurders en commissarissen op het gebied van de Corporate Governance wet- en regelgeving in het algemeen en de controlerende rol van de accountant in het bijzonder; en voor de DCAA betreft dit de uniformiteit in de toepassing van de wet- en regelgeving en het gebruiken van best practices en standaardteksten voor rapportages en verklaringen door haar leden. Rol van organisatoren Elk van de drie organisaties heeft een verschillende rol met betrekking tot Corporate Governance. Het Cft heeft een signalerende en adviserende rol met betrekking tot de vaststelling en de uitvoering van begrotingen, de verbetering van het financieel beheer en op de beheersing van het totaal van de geldleningen. Het SBTNO is een onafhankelijke organisatie die gevraagd of Pagina 1 van 2

2 ongevraagd advies geeft aan de Raad van Ministers van Curacao en de overheidsentiteiten in verband met de naleving van Corporate Governance op. De DCAA is een vereniging die onder andere een goede beroepsuitoefening bij haar leden (accountants) stimuleert, gemeenschappelijke belangen van haar leden behartigt en belangstelling voor het uitoefenen van het accountancy vakgebied bevordert, terwijl zij streeft naar goede dienstverlening op het gebied van financiële verslaggeving. Registreren Het seminar vindt op donderdag 21 februari 2013 plaats in Kurá Hulanda van 13:30 17:30 uur. Toegang is gratis en de voertaal is Nederlands. 5 Press Release February 20 th, 2013 Cft, SBTNO and DCAA organize seminar: Checks and Balances in Corporate Governance on The Board of financial supervision (College financieel toezicht - Cft), the Foundation Bureau for Supervision and Standardization Government Entities (Stichting Bureau Toezicht en Normering Overheidsentiteiten - SBTNO) and the Dutch Caribbean Accountants Association (DCAA) are organizing a seminar on Thursday afternoon February 21 st 2013 at the Kurá Hulanda, titled: Checks and Balances in Corporate Governance op. The objective of the seminar is to enhance the awareness concerning the Corporate Governance Code and to shed light on the obligations of governmental corporations and foundations. The controller function of the external accountant will also be discussed. Speakers During the seminar various speakers from the respective organizations will be discussing topics concerning the theme. On behalf of the Cft, Erik van Engelen and Marloes Kempes will be giving a presentation about the role of the financial supervisor with regard to Corporate Governance. Donald de Palm (SBTNO) will be discussing the tasks and activities of the SBTNO and the obligations of the government and the entities in this. André Delger (DCAA) will explain the role of the external accountant, the legal task resulting from the Code and the importance of a uniformity approach and reporting by the different accounting offices. Guest speaker Karel Frielink will conclude with a speech concerning the present and future of the Code. Interest Cft, SBTNO and DCAA have common interests for stimulating compliance with the regulation and the Code and also achieve a spin-off with the organizing of this seminar. For Cft this concerns the improvement of the compliance with the Corporate Governance rules and regulations; SBTNO focuses on the enhancement of the knowledge and awareness for directors and commissioners in the area of Corporate Governance rules and regulations in general and specifically for the controller function of the accountant; and for DCAA this means uniformity in the application of the rules and regulations and the usage of best practices and standardized text for reporting and declarations by its members. Role of the organizers Each of the three organizations has a different role concerning Corporate Governance. Cft has the role to identify and advise on the determination and execution of the budgets, the improvements of the financial management and the control over the total money loans. 6 independent organization which by request or on own initiative gives advice to the Council of Ministers of concerning the compliance with Corporate Governance on. DCAA is an association which amongst other things stimulates its (accountant) members to execute their profession properly, safeguards the common interests of its members and promotes an interest in executing the accountancy profession, while it strives for good service in the area of financial reporting.
