10 Exercise 5: Questions Toosje asks for advice Read the text. Lieve Lita Ik heb vorige week een feestje bij mij thuis gegeven. Mijn ouders gingen naar mijn tante. Ik mocht twintig mensen uitnodigen. Mijn moeder heeft eten en drinken ingeslagen. Dat vond ik zo aardig van haar, maar we mochten geen alcohol drinken en geen rommel achterlaten. We moesten opruimen. Twee regels is toch niet veel? Het feest was oergezellig. Iedereen dronk fris en ik dacht dat er niets meer mis kon gaan. Maar toen ging iedereen naar huis zonder te helpen met opruimen. Mijn ouders waren erg boos toen ze de rommel zagen. Ik vroeg mijn beste vriendin arla waarom ze niet geholpen had. Zij zei dat ze geen zin had want opruimen was mijn probleem. Wat een stom antwoord! 12 Exercise 6: Questions Pinkpop Read the text. Het is de moeite waard om de lange reis naar Pinkpop te maken, de muziek is er geweldig. Je moet wel met het openbaar vervoer gaan, anders zit je maar vast in het verkeer. Ik kampeer altijd op de Pinkpop-camping. Ik weet dat de wc s vies zijn en dat de douches niet schoon zijn, maar je moet op het Pinkpop-kampeerterrein zijn om de sfeer te proeven. Het weer was dit jaar super, hoewel er een paar onweersbuien waren waardoor iedereen verschrikkelijk nat werd. Door de vier podiums is er een redelijke variatie aan muziek. Zo kan iedereen van zijn eigen stijl muziek genieten. Dit jaar was mijn favoriete zanger iemand van wie ik de muziek eigenlijk niet goed kende, die man had een stem! Iedereen werd ook enthousiast over zijn meeslepende gitaarsolo. Drie dagen muziek en met mensen leven die net zo n plezier hebben als jij is fantastisch. Er werd gedanst, gezongen, kortom, Pinkpop is een superleuke ervaring. Na een mooie vuurwerkshow ging iedereen qelukkig naar huis. omplete the statements by ticking the correct box. 14 Exercise 7: Questions VOLUNTEERING Read the text. Gisteren ben ik, Sarah, aangekomen in het warme Suriname. Ik werd opgehaald door iemand van het vrijwilligershuis waar ik deze twee maanden woon. De mensen in het huis zijn allemaal van mijn leeftijd en werken allemaal voor een korte periode in weeshuizen of internaten net als ik. In de hoofdstad Paramaribo spreekt iedereen Nederlands. In het internaat waar ik werk, komen veel meisjes uit het binnenland, meestal uit de bergen en daar spreken ze andere talen. De meiden zijn allemaal zo tussen de 10 en 21. Het lijkt me moeilijk voor die kinderen van tien om helemaal alleen naar de hoofdstad te komen voor de middelbare school. De meiden zijn heel arm. Ik maak het hier zo gezellig en huiselijk mogelijk met een paar andere jongeren. We organiseren filmavondjes en doen sport, alles om de meiden positief bezig te houden zodat ze geen heimwee hebben. Het is ook erg belangrijk om goed te kijken of er niemand verdrietig is. Dan moet ik ze troosten. Dus dan probeer ik ze te laten lachen. Ik denk dat ik me wel anders voel als ik weer in Nederland ben want nu weet ik pas hoe verwend wij zijn. Write brief answers IN ENGLISH. 16 Exercise 8: Questions White noise Read the text and the statements. Kun je s nachts niet slapen door schreeuwende buurkinderen of omdat je boven een nachtclub woont? Droom je van een huis in het bos, ver weg van al het lawaai? Je bent niet de enige. Maar moet je naar het platteland verhuizen om goed te kunnen slapen? Slimme mensen hebben uitgevonden dat het niet meer nodig is. ls er veel mensen zachtjes met elkaar praten, bijvoorbeeld in een theater voordat de voorstelling begint, dan hoor je een monotoon geluid. Dit geluid wordt witte ruis genoemd. Nu blijkt dat andere geluiden door deze witte ruis worden opgenomen. Dit is eenvoudig uit te leggen: als twee mensen samen kletsen in een kamer, hoor je beide stemmen, maar op een receptie waar veel mensen tegelijk praten is het onmogelijk om te horen wat iedereen zegt. Je krijgt dan een geluid zonder betekenis: witte ruis. Dat geluid is nu te koop. Je kunt een appje downloaden of een machine krijgen die de hele nacht witte ruis maakt. Daardoor kun je genieten van een goede nachtrust, ook al staan er mensen onder je raam te zingen. Deze uitvinding zorgt ervoor dat je het irritante lawaai van mensen die vergeten dat jij over een paar uur weer uitgerust naar school moet gaan, niet meer hoort. Door de witte ruis is verhuizen niet meer nodig! OR 2018
