1 INTRODUCING Albert Abraham Den Haag / The Hague, 2008 Albert Abraham, 40 jaar oud Op negentienjarige leeftijd ging hij op reis. Een reis die hij zijn geloofsmissie noemt. Albert Abraham, 40 years old. He set at the age of 19 years on a journey known to him as faith mission. INTRODUCING Albert Abraham Albert Abraham is predikant van de internationale Global Harvest Church in Den Haag. Daarnaast is hij een belangrijke kracht bij tal van initiatieven om het menselijk lijden te verlichten. Apart from his parochial duty of Reverend AB, senior pastor of the international Global Harvest Church in The Hague, Albert Abraham is committed to play his part in reliefing human suffering.

2 De Soepbus The Soup Kitchen I In 1999 kocht Abraham zijn eigen missiebus om de behoeftigen die hij wilde helpen te bereiken. Hij reed met de bus Nederland door, langs steden als Amsterdam, Den Haag, Leiden en Den Bosch. Vanuit de bus deelde hij soep uit, zodat de bus al snel `Soepbus gedoopt werd. I In 1999 bought Abraham his own missionary van to reach the destitute. He drove in his van through the Netherlands, to cities like Amsterdam, The Hague, Leiden and Den Bosch. In his van he distributed soup. That is the reason the van became known as the `Soepbus` (the Soup Van). Albert sloot zich aan bij de voedselbank, een initiatief dat zich later in korte tijd over het hele land verspreidde. En hij zette een systeem op voor de bezorging van voedsel aan huis voor de lage inkomens. Ook de levering aan diverse sociale organisaties kwam op gang. Albert also joined the new foodbank effort in the Netherlands which later on swept across the whole country. And he initiated house to house feeding support tot the less incomes and supplied social organizations as well. 3 Vrijwilligers Volunteers D De activiteiten breidden zich uit. Naast de soepbus kwam er een steunpunt en een opvanghuis voor daklozen. Iedere avond, vijf keer per week, was men aanwezig op het Haagse centraal station; steeds werden zo n 35 tot 100 mensen geholpen. Naarmate het werk groeide, kwamen er steeds meer vrijwilligers. T The activities were extending more and more. Opvanghuis (shelter for the homeless), steunpunt (support centre) and the soepbus side by side started to take shape and progressed. Every evening, five times a week, we reached 35 to 100 homeless at the central station of The Hague. As the work started growing, it attracted an increase of volunteers day after day. Hier zien we vrijwilligers in actie in Wassenaar, één van de rijkste gemeentes van Nederland. Here we see some volunteers in action in Wassenaar, one of the richest municipalities of The Netherlands. Stukje bij beetje kregen ook de media belangstelling. Bit by bit, the work attracted the media. 4 5

4 D S Fondswerving Fund raising Diverse ideële fondsen gingen de initiatieven financieel ondersteunen. Several fund agencies started to support the work financially. Vrijwilligers: scholing en programma s / Volunteers: instructions and programs Hier zien we de Wassenaarse jeugd in actie. De jongeren presenteren kerstgeschenken en laten voorbeelden zien van artikelen over hun activiteiten in de lokale pers. Here we see the local youth club of Wassenaar, presenting Christmas gifts and showing examples of local newspaper reports. Samenkomst van kerken op Hemelvaartsdag. Collecte als fondswerving. Albert licht toe waar het geld voor bestemd is. Cultureel uitwisselingsprogramma / Culture exchange program. Gathering of churches on Ascension Day. Met / with the former general governor of Canada. Met / with Ruud Lubbers, former prime minister Op de EO-jongerendag waren de migrantenkerken onderdeel van het zogeheten relatieprogramma. On a yearly mass meeting for the youth of the Evangelische Omroep (EO), a christian broadcasting organization in The Netherlands. The immigrant churches participated as part of the so called relatieprogramma. Op een jaartraining van de Protestantse Kerk van Nederland (PKN)/ On a annual training of the Protestantse Kerk van Nederland (PKN - a recent fusion of the main protestant denominations in The Netherlands) 8 9

6 Samen met / together with Arnold van Heusden, worker of the Evangelische Alliantie (Dutch member of the World Evangelical Alliance). Samen met / together with ds. Arie van der Veer, a reverend who is very popular thanks to his religious music program on the Dutch TV. Samen met / together with André Rouvoet, vice-premier of the Netherlands. D De migrantenkerken in Den Haag hebben een groot tekort aan gebedsruimte. Albert Abraham is samen met plaatselijke politici betrokken bij de oprichting van een Gebedsverzamelgebouw dat in de nabije toekomst meerdere geloofsgemeenschappen onderdak zal bieden. T The immigrant churches in The Hague need much more accommodation for their services. Albert Abraham is together with local politicians involved in a succesfull action for the foundation of a so called Gebedsverzamelgebouw.
