4 Jaarverslag Global Pump Investment 2010 Global Pump Investment Annual Report was voor Global Pump Investment B.V. (GPI) een tegenstrijdig jaar. Onze dochterondernemingen MarFlex B.V. (MarFlex) en Snijders Elektrotechniek B.V. (Snijders Elektrotechniek) bestonden respectievelijk 30 en 25 jaar. Als gevolg van de economische crisis hebben we deze jubilea sober gevierd. Zowel bij MarFlex als Snijders waren een reorganisatie en structuurwijziging noodzakelijk om de gevolgen van de crisis het hoofd te bieden. Beide organisaties zijn nu voorbereid op het aantrekken van de markt. MarFlex begon het jaar met grote vraagtekens. In december 2009 hadden we een lichte stijging van de aanvragen genoteerd. Gedurende het eerste kwartaal 2010 werd duidelijk dat de markt aan het aantrekken was. We tekenden nieuwe projecten in Rusland, Nederland en Turkije. Toch liep het marktherstel niet zo snel als we verwacht hadden. Om de traagheid in de markt op te vangen, hebben we in het tweede kwartaal een reorganisatie doorgevoerd. Het kostenpatroon sluit nu weer aan bij het omzetniveau. Parallel hieraan heeft binnen MarFlex een structuurwijziging plaats gevonden, waarbij de organisatie is aangepast aan de behoeften van de markt. Met als doel een product neer te zetten dat de verwachtingen van onze klanten in alle opzichten overtreft. Om dichter bij de klant te staan, hebben we in 2010 servicelocaties opgezet in Rusland en China. There were mixed signals for MarFlex at the start of the year. In December 2009 we saw a limited increase in order enquiries. It became clear during the first quarter of 2010 that the market was picking up. We signed contracts for new projects in Russia, the Netherlands, and Turkey. However, the market recovery did not proceed as quickly as we had expected. To compensate for the slow recovery, we carried out a reorganisation during the second quarter. The expenditure was brought back in line with turnover. In a parallel development, MarFlex implemented structural changes to align the organisation with current market demands. The aim was to deliver a product that exceeded the expectations of our customers in every regard. 5 2010 was a year of contrasts for Global Pump Investment B.V. (GPI). Our subsidiaries MarFlex B.V. (MarFlex) and Snijders Elektrotechniek B.V. (Snijders Elektrotechniek) celebrated their 30th and 25th anniversaries respectively. In light of the economic crisis, we celebrated these anniversaries in a sober fashion. Reorganisations and structural changes were necessary at both MarFlex and Snijders in order to meet the challenge of the economic downturn. We willen zaken doen met partners die openstaan voor communicatie en met wie we een lange termijn relatie kunnen opbouwen op basis van respect. In 2011 starten we een nieuwe trainingslocatie op in Wladiwostok. Een plaatselijk trainingscentrum voor zeevarenden gaat er in onze opdracht praktijktrainingen verzorgen. MarFlex bewaakt de kwaliteit door zelf het trainingsmateriaal aan te leveren en de trainers op te leiden. Ook in Mumbai en Shanghai worden in 2011 nieuwe trainingslocaties opgestart. Het netwerk van trainingslocaties wordt in 2012 verder uitgebreid. International training facilities At our headquarters in Oud-Beijerland we regularly provide practical training courses for our own staff and the staff of our customers. 16 NQZR: pompen en meten in één NQZR: pump and measurements in a single system Met de introductie van de elektrisch aangedreven deepwell pomp met oliegesmeerde as zorgde MarFlex twintig jaar geleden voor een revolutie in de tankvaart. Wat destijds een grote innovatie was, is vandaag de standaard. Anno 2010 gaat MarFlex een stap verder: NQZR combineert pompsysteem en meettechnologie in één pakket en komt daarmee tegemoet aan de behoeften van de markt. Met NQZR wordt de procesautomatisering in de pomp geïntegreerd. Sensoren voor het meten van de temperatuur, de druk en het level van de lading zijn aan de pomp gekoppeld. Ook sensoren om de pomp te monitoren (temperatuur, losdruk, lagers etc.) maken deel uit van het systeem. Alle data over pomp en lading worden gevisualiseerd op een 32 touch screen in de controle kamer van het schip. Van daaruit kan een signaal worden verzonden naar een PDA aan dek of een computer aan de wal. MarFlex kan ook, na toestemming van de klant, via een beveiligde internetbediening inloggen om een foutmelding te checken. With NQZR, process automation is integrated in the pump system. Sensors that measure the temperature, pressure, and the cargo level are linked to the pump. Sensors to monitor the pump (temperature, discharge pressure, bearings etc.) are also part of the system. 17 Cost of ownership omlaag Ten opzichte van conventionele pompsystemen met losse meetsensoren biedt NQZR tal van voordelen. De installatie verloopt sneller, omdat men niet voor alle sensoren aparte gaten hoeft te maken. Er is minder bekabeling aan boord, waardoor de kans op falen afneemt. Alle procesgegevens zijn op één centraal scherm af te lezen. Door de remote bediening kan men snel op signalen reageren en problemen oplossen. Het systeem geeft ook inzage in noodzakelijk onderhoud. Alle data over lading en pompen worden opgeslagen in één database. Trends zijn hierdoor sneller herkenbaar en het proces kan tijdig worden bijgestuurd. Dit alles verhoogt de veiligheid en efficiency aan boord, waardoor de cost of ownership omlaag gaat. De eerste reacties op NQZR zijn positief. Installation takes less time because separate holes do not have to be made for all the different sensors. There is less cabling onboard, which reduces the risk of failure. All process data can be monitored on a single screen. Alerts and problems can be dealt with quickly by remote control. The system also generates data for essential maintenance. All the data about the cargo and pumps is stored in a central database. This means trends can be identified more quickly and adjustments can be made to the process in time. All this helps to improve safety and efficiency onboard, and thus reduce the total cost of ownership. The initial response to NQZR has been overwhelmingly positive. NQZR is being offered as a modular system, which means customers can choose the modules they want. Marflex in the spotlight MarFlex profiled itself in 2010 at various maritime trade fairs as a professional partner in the field of electric-drive deepwell pumps. At the Posidonia in Athens we were represented at the stand of our regional agent. At the inland shipping Construction & Shipping Industry (C&SI) trade fair in the Netherlands we organised a seminar about the future of inland shipping. In September 2010 we were in attendance with our own stand at the SMM in Hamburg. That is where we launched our innovative pump system with integrated measurement technology: NQZR. 18 Kwaliteitsverbetering als permanent proces Quality improvement as a permanent process MarFlex wil de verwachtingen van klanten in alle opzichten overtreffen. Dat kan alleen als de kwaliteit van onze producten en dienstverlening niet ter discussie staat. We zijn continu bezig met kwaliteitsverbetering, zegt Frans Capelle, QHSE Manager (QHSE - Quality, Health, Safety en Environment). Daarnaast zijn we uiterst alert op klant tevredenheid. ISO-certificatie Als ISO-gecertificeerd bedrijf hebben we onze werkwijze vastgelegd in procedures en instructies. We oefenen permanent controle uit op de naleving hiervan. Twee keer per jaar worden we door het kwalificatiebureau Lloyds geaudit. De resultaten van de audits die in 2010 hebben plaatsgevonden waren positief. In 2011 ligt de nadruk op onze leveranciers: de afdelingen Inkoop en QHSE gaan er samen voor zorgen dat leveranciers hetzelfde kwaliteitscontroleniveau handhaven als MarFlex. Kwaliteit op de werkvloer Door het opstellen van checklisten die worden doorlopen zodra een project klaar is, heeft de afdeling QHSE kwaliteit dichter bij de productiemedewerkers gebracht. Er is bewustzijn gecreëerd voor het feit dat iedereen verantwoordelijk is voor de kwaliteit van zijn eigen werk. Onder meer hierdoor is het aantal klachten in 2010 met 35% gedaald ten opzichte van Door het neerleggen van kwaliteit op de werkvloer heeft de afdeling QHSE meer ruimte voor het afhandelen van garantieclaims, die de basis vormen voor het verbeteren van onze producten. Maandelijks komen de afdelingen QHSE en Services bij elkaar om garantiegevallen te bespreken, oorzaken te analyseren en naar oplossingen te zoeken. Zo maken we optimaal gebruik van de ervaringen uit de markt om de kwaliteit van onze pompsystemen verder te perfectioneren. Veiligheid heeft prioriteit MarFlex heeft de veiligheid van medewerkers hoog in het vaandel. We vinden het belangrijk dat iedereen aan het einde van de werkdag gezond naar huis terugkeert. De afgelopen jaren hebben we fors geïnvesteerd in een veilige en gezonde werkomgeving voor het personeel. Ook in 2010 was veiligheid een speerpunt. Alle medewerkers met een risico op lasrook- of gehoorschade hebben deelgenomen aan een periodiek medisch onderzoek. De resultaten waren zeer gunstig. Quality on the shop floor By introducing checklists that have to be gone through when projects are completed, the QHSE department has increased the awareness about quality on the shop floor. Employees are reminded that everybody is responsible for the quality of their own work. This has helped to reduce the number of complaints in 2010 by 35% compared to By shifting the responsibility for quality to the work floor, the QHSE department has freed up time for the processing of guarantee claims, which form the basis for the improvement of our products. Each month the QHSE and Services departments meet to discuss, analyse, and find solutions for guarantee incidents. In this way we make maximum use of the experience of the market to further perfect the quality of our systems. Safety priority number one MarFlex has made the safety of its employees its number one priority. We think it is important everyone goes home at the end of the work day healthy. We have made considerable investment in recent years to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our staff. We are continually focused on quality improvement, says Frans Capelle, Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment Manager (QHSE Manager). Om de machineveiligheid te verhogen zijn onder meer beschermkappen aangeschaft. Ook hebben we besloten zuurstof- en gasmeters voor onze servicemedewerkers aan te schaffen. Verschillende medewerkers volgden een cursus over veiligheid op de werkvloer. We verwachten dat de genomen maatregelen zullen bijdragen aan een verdere daling van het aantal ongevallen. Aandacht voor duurzaamheid MarFlex scoort van oudsher goed op milieugebied. We hebben een schoon en milieuvriendelijk productieproces, waarbij geen schadelijke stoffen vrijkomen. Onze elektrisch aangedreven deepwell pompen zijn ten opzichte van hydraulische pompsystemen vriendelijk voor het milieu. Ze maken weinig lawaai, lekken geen olie en halen een maximale hoeveelheid product uit de ladingtanks. Niettegenstaande het groene karakter van ons productieproces en producten maken we continu werk van een verdere verduurzaming van onze activiteiten. In 2011 gaan we de voorbereidingen treffen voor het behalen van het ISO certificaat. Daarnaast gaan we de komende jaren onderzoeken hoe we het energieverbruik bij het testen van onze pompsystemen kunnen reduceren All employees with a risk of welding fume or hearing damage were given regular medical check-ups. The results were very encouraging. The emissions of welding fumes are within the applicable norms. Measures were introduced during the year to reduce noise pollution on the shop floor. In addition, we invested in the safety of our machines. A machine Risk Assessment and Evaluation procedure was drawn up. Amongst other things, additional protective covers were acquired to improve machine safety. We also decided to acquire oxygen and gas measuring gauges for our service employees. Numerous employees also followed a course about safety on the shop floor. We expect these measures will help to further reduce the number of accidents. Concern for sustainability MarFlex has always had an excellent environmental record. We have a clean and environmentally-friendly production process, with no emissions of harmful substances. Our electric-drive deepwell pumps have less impact on the envi ronment than hydraulic pump systems. They make less noise, do not leak oil, and extract the most product from the cargo tanks. Despite the green nature of our production process and products, we are continually working to further improve the sustainability of our activities. In 2011 preparations will be undertaken for ISO certification. Furthermore, we will be carrying out studies to see if we can reduce energy consumption during the testing of our pump systems. 20 Procesverbetering in een stroomversnelling Fast-track process improvement In 2010 veranderde MarFlex de samenstelling van het ROKADEteam. Dit verbeterteam heeft als taak het optimaliseren van de interne processen. De focus lag op procesverbetering bij Sales, Projects, Finance & Control en Human Resources. Het ROKADE-team bestaat uit drie medewerkers van MarFlex die elkaar qua kennis en vaardigheden goed aanvullen. ICT Manager Vincent Snels is specialist op het gebied van auto matisering. Operations Manager Niels Ellenbroek kent alle ins en outs van het ERP-pakket waar MarFlex mee werkt. Director-COO Michael Smits draagt de eindverantwoording. In het verleden had iedere afdeling haar eigen lijstje Vincent Snels, met verbeterprojecten, aldus de ICT Manager teamleden. Het duurde zeer lang voor proces verbeteringen zichtbaar werden. Als verbeterteam hebben we de juiste bevoegdheden, daadkracht en kennis om verbeterprojecten snel te realiseren. Prioritaire projecten De procesverbeteringen hebben tot doel efficiënter te kunnen werken, sneller te kunnen rapporteren en betere stuurinformatie ter beschikking te hebben. Processen die voor de hele organisatie belangrijk zijn, worden prioritair behandeld. In 2010 lag de focus op het verkoop- en klantmanagement en het financieel en HRMproces. Een overzicht van de gerealiseerde projecten: Salesconfigurator In 2009 nam de afdeling Sales een nieuwe softwareapplicatie in gebruik voor het opstellen van offertes is gebruikt voor verdere optimalisatie hiervan zodat alle offertes met deze nieuwe software gemaakt kunnen worden. It took ages before any tangible process improvements were achieved. The improvement team has the authority, capability, and expertise necessary to implement improvement projects more quickly. Priority projects The aim of process improvement is to introduce more efficient operational methods, shorter reporting lines, and better management information. Processes critical for the whole organisation are given priority. In 2010, the focus was on sales and customer relationship management, financial administration, and the HRM process. The following projects were completed: Sales configurator In 2009, the Sales department introduced a new software application to draw up quotations was used to refine this software so that all quotations can be made with it.
