4 Nepal China Tibet India Waar ligt Nepal? Nepal ligt ingeklemd tussen India in het zuiden en Tibet (China) in het noorden. De hoofdstad is Kathmandu Nederland Nepal Hemelsbreedte kilometer.. Hoe groot is Nepal? Nepal is ongeveer vier keer Nederland, er wonen meer dan 24 miljoen mensen. Nepal is van noord naar zuid verdeeld in de Hoge Himalaya, de Middenheuvels en de Terai, de laagvlakte van Nepal in het zuiden. Wat spreekt men in Nepal? De officiële en meest gesproken taal is het Nepalees. Er zijn verder door het gehele land een groot aantal andere talen en dialecten te vinden. Ook spreekt men goed Engels. Het Nepalees is verwant met het Hindi, komt oorspronkelijk voort uit het Sanskriet; die taal is weer is gerelateerd aan het Latijn - en dus met onze talen. Bijvoorbeeld: Maha Radja = (Lat.) Mega Rex; Deva = (Lat.) Dea. Wat betekent Himalaya? Himal-Alaya komt uit het Sanskriet en betekent zoiets als 'Verblijfplaats van de sneeuw'. De hoogste berg is de Mount Everest (8848 m), in 1953 voor het eerst beklommen door de Nepalees Tenzing Norgay en de Nieuw Zeelander Edmund Hillary. Wat voor religies zijn er? Hindoeïsme en Boeddhisme zijn de voornaamste religies. In het zuiden is men voornamelijk Hindoe, in het noorden Boeddhist. Wat is het tijdsverschil met Nepal? In Nepal is het later: 3 uur 45 minuten tijdens de zomertijd, 4 uur 45 minuten tijdens de wintertijd. Wat is de lokale munt? De Nepalese roepie (NRS), waarde is ongeveer 100 NRS in de Euro 4

6 Samenvatting van het werk van Stichting Hatemalo Nepal. Werkeloosheid Een van de meest bekende oorzaken van het jeugdprobleem in Nepal ( in Kathamndu alleen al leven meer dan duizend kinderen en jongeren op straat) is de armoede. Van alle 193 landen in de wereld staat Nepal op de twaalfde plaats op de ranglijst van werkeloosheid. Dat was 42 % van de beroepsbevolking in 2004 en 46 % in (bron: CIA World Factbook). Gezien de reacties van Nepalesen en de uittocht naar het buitenland is daar geen verbetering in gekomen Onderwijs Zie project Studenten Eerder was Hatemalo van plan zich te richten op de zwerfkinderen van Kathmandu onder supervisie van een Nepalese stichting Little World Nepal/France. Toen deze stichting zich meer ging bezighouden met de opvang en begeleiding van studenten afkomstig uit de bergdorpen heeft Hatemalo het studentenhuis financieel ondersteund. Deze studenten zijn na het behalen van hun diploma vetrokken naar hun dorpen. Sociaal werkers drongen toen aan om- hoe gering van omvang ook - te zoeken naar werkgelegenheid en ons bezig te houden met onderwijs. Onze projecten zijn daarop afgestemd. Intussen zijn twee projecten afgerond een project is het tweede jaar ingegaan: - een kippenfarm in Touchal - steun aan een jonge fotograaf voor aanschaf van een camera. - Twee studenten ontvangen gedurende drie jaar financiële ondersteuning in hun studiekosten. 7 Chairman of Hatemalo Nepal Hatemalo is a social organization especially for the low economic students. There are many projects running now with co-ordination with our organization. We have some pending projects as well. Currently our organization is busy with bachelor level IT students with their study. The students are using the provided opportunities as best as they can. The students we help, has a clear vision that they will also help the poor citizens after the completion of their degree and having a good job. Currently the other project our organization is busy with is a chicken farm for a poor family. The family is also taking benefit from the chance of economy we provide them. They have promised us that a small percentage of the profit will be donated to a local schools poor students as scholarship. We have some pending projects also. The computer and tuition center in Nala, a hostel house for the mentally disable students in Palanchok are our pending projects. During these projects I and my team have visited a lot of places. The place I remember most is Palanchok. With an invitation we were in the pace called Palanchok eastern part of Kavrepalanchok district Nepal. There was a special school for mentally challenged students ( Mentally Challenged Rehabilitation Center (MCRC) was the given name for that school. They have a small old house in rent as a hostel for those challenged students. A well discipline environment attracted me a lot. We spend a night there with those mentally ill students and what I feel is that they have no enough space for all the students. I wished I could do something for them. The following morning I talked with the chairman of that rehabilitation center. He requested me to help with some money to build a building for those students. Then he gave me some papers which explain all the history and the future of his center. Later I gave him a hope that I can help him a small with my Hatemalo Nepal organization. Every time when I visit a new place for help I feel our small contribution is being a big for the low economic people and students. I am also a student so sometimes I fell the disturbance in my study when involving in such projects but in the same moments my heart says to me that every living organism wish to survive a better life of themselves but we are human so we need to do some for other also. What I do for other is the best thing I have. So I am happy and proud to make a small contribution for other. And finally I want to give thank to Hatemalo Foundation Neitherlands-Nepal for giving me this post (chairman) and gave me a chance to serve people. Never waste a good crisis een goede crisis is nooit verspilde tijd Een zin die ik ergens las en me alsmaar niet loslaat. Een tijd van crisis kun je gebruiken om je bedrijf eens op te schudden. Of om andere nooit eerder bedachte paden in te slaan, dus om af te wijken van de traditionele paden. De crisis geeft je de kans om met een heldere en nieuwe blik naar de toekomst te kijken. Je stelt je de vraag hoe ik mij kan onderscheiden. Een van de manieren is te investeren in een nieuwe wereld, meewerken aan het ontwikkelen van een andere samenleving. Die samenleving is hier, maar ook over onze grenzen. En dan zit je dicht bij het werkwoord omdenken, een vondst van Berthold Gunster, theatermaker en regisseur. Zijn idee was om onder deze titel een interactief theater- annex trainingsprogramma te ontwikkelen. Het moest een mengeling worden van cabaret, theater, lezing en interactie met het publiek. Kern van de filosofie van Berthold Gunster is mensen te leren omdenken. Dat is een manier van denken waarbij je kijkt naar wat er is, en niet naar wat er zou móeten zijn. Hiermee maak je de omslag van ja-maar - gedrag naar jaen -gedrag. Wat heeft dat te maken met onze stichting Hatemalo en haar projecten in Nepal en met bedrijven? U investeert in een van de projecten, waarmee u duidelijk maakt aan uw personeel, relaties in uw pr dat investeren in een nieuwe wereld ook hoe dan ook vruchten zal afleveren in onze eigen samenleving. Daarbij stellen we geen ja-maar vragen maar ja-en opmerkingen. Vanuit deze grondhouding vraag ik u vriendelijk de hierna volgende projecten te lezen. Een eerste gesprek dat geen enkele belofte of verplichting van uw kant in hoeft te houden, kan nog meer verduidelijken. Behalve de projecten vindt u in dit informatieboekje alle direct van belangzijnde informatie over onze stichting Hatemalo. In een tijd van economische en sociale crises worden ook stichtingen innovatief, bezinnen zich op hun missie en zoeken nieuwe wegen. Wiel Palmen Sushant Sigdel 7

9 1 Computercentrum Nala Achtergrond De Nepalese overheid heeft noch het geld noch de middelen om veel geld te steken in onderwijs als ook niet in de opleiding van onderwijzers. Wie het kan betalen gaat naar het buitenland om te studeren. Voor kinderen uit de beter gesitueerde gezinnen bestaat nu de kans om te studeren aan de zogenaamde private schools, waar het onderwijs redelijk goed is. De ouders betalen de school. Het computeronderwijs neemt een hoge vlucht. Maar ook hier zijn het de particulieren die deze opleidingen geven. Ook hier geldt weer dat wie kan betalen een cursus/ opleiding kan volgen. Enige studenten hebben nu bij stichting Hatemalo het voorstel neergelegd om zelf een computercentrum te beginnen in een van de hoofddorpen, Nala. De initiatiefnemer, Sushant Sigdel, heeft een eerste voorstel geschreven dat we hebben opgestuurd naar financieel deskundige Joop Jurgens, verblijvend in Zuid-Frankrijk. Hieronder het uiteindelijke plan, dat gedetailleerd en naar de praktijk in maart 2014 zijn beslag krijgt. Wiel Palmen is dan enige maanden in Nepal. ( Zie verder motivatie voor dit project en verderop de briefwisseling tussen Joop Jurgens en Sushant Sigdel). Review of Computer Center and Tuition Center establishing plan in Nala Nepal is a developing country. Many parts of my country are still following the older lifestyle for living. The computer technology and its benefits are still a new chapter for many students. Nala, my village is just 30 K.M. far from the capital city Kathmandu but still we have the same problems with computer knowledge. Many of us don t know what can we do with computers, how they are helping the development of world. So I and a small group of my friends decided to open a new computer center in Nala For our successful project first of all we did survey among the local schools of my village. The main aim of that survey was to find out the students response of students towards our plan. The result of survey showed that more than 90% of students are interested towards the computer education and they will definitely join the course if they can afford it. During the same time we asked another question to the students, what they wish other thing for their study. Many of the government school students wished a tuition center for English, Mathematics and Science subjects. So finally we looked back to our plan and added a new word our project as Computer and Tuition Center. After, we give missions and visions to our plan. The missions of our projects are as follows: To keep the village alert with technologies and computer education! To give a right platform for all the intelligent and energetic students. To increase the practical life than a theoretical practice. Make the coaching education affordable for low economic students. After the clear ideas we asked some local administration to help for establishment. They response they ll help us with ideas and giving a right platform. They couldn t help us with economy because of crises. So we decided to collect fond for establishment with the foreign donors who are really interested toward our project. Now we want to say that we have constructed a new road of education for low economic and intelligent students we request you to provide some vehicles of chances and opportunities for them. 10 Te verwachten resultaten Wanneer dit centrum functioneert zal het een uitstraling hebben op de omgeving. Goed computeronderwijs en de studie van de Engelse taal en enige ondersteuning bij rekenen zal kinderen helpen betere resultaten te behalen en ook in staat zijn de ontwikkelingen in de wereld te volgen. Controle Er zal ter plaatse toezicht geregeld worden. Financiële verantwoording verloopt via de penningmeester van Hatemalo Nepal. Een duidelijk en inzichtelijk controlesysteem zal in maart 2014 ter plaatse besproken worden. Duurzaamheid Computercentra zoals deze voorzien in een behoefte, omdat de drempel vooral financieel laag is en zodoende open staan voor de allerarmsten. Het gaat hier om kinderen, die de nieuwe generatie zullen vormen en door beter onderwijs meer toegerust zijn Nepal vooruit te helpen. Begroting (zoals deze is ingediend door Sushant Sigdel). Financial The center has clear ideas in the financial part. We only like to ask economical help with sponsors for the establishment period later the regular expenditure will be controlled by the center itself. A motorbike is necessary as a means of transportation since there is not regular transportation facility. The detail of income and expenditure is mentioned below. Uitvoering Het plan staat in de steigers. Niet meer dan dat. In maart 2014 is Wiel Palmen in Nala en zal met deskundigen (onderwijs, financiën) en de studenten olv Sushant Sigdel een vertaling maken hoe de realisering tot stand kan komen. De vraag is of er sponsors of fondsen zijn die NADAT er een goed en inzichtelijk plan ligt willen meewerken aan de realisering. Nu wordt slechts gevraagd om een intentieverklaring en directe sponsoring vindt dan pas plaats als de sponsors /fondsen groen licht geven. We zal een klein bedrag gevraagd worden voor onderzoek ter plaatse ( oa vervoer en overnachting, ongeveer 250 euro) Verslaglegging en verantwoording De subsidieverstrekkers zullen zeer nauwgezet op de hoogte worden gehouden, via verslagen, beeldmateriaal en verslag door eigen waarneming. 10

12 BIJLAGEN: Proposal to open a new Computer Center and Tuition Institute Introduction Ugrachandi Nala V.D.C. is located at 30 K.M. east from the capital city Kathmandu but still this village is poor in technology systems and computer education. The difference between the high class family and the poor class family is causing the difference in education system also. The students from high class family use to go to the private English based boarding school where the rules and management systems are strict and so the level of education is very good. On the other hand there are Nepali language based public schools, mainly the junction of poor class family students, are not well managed and education level is very poor. The main problems from this type of public school are that they are very poor in the subjects like English, Science, Mathematics, etc. They don t even have the basic knowledge of computer. The computer and technology education are not in reach of these classes of students. The students, who want to learn the computer courses, go the nearby municipality after the completion of their secondary level. To keep the village updating with the technology and in order to serve good tuition to the students from the poor family, we are planning to open a new computer center and tuition institute. Basically the team is oriented for the social work and the team is ready to serve them with no profit business. The overview of the detail plan and the ideas are mentioned below. Why? Being the educated and technology oriented part of the village, it is our duty to create equality between any of the class and conditions. We aim a new locality with educated and technology based students. If we keep our concern to the result of private and public schools, the students from public schools seem to be very poor whereas the private students are good in level. It doesn t mean that the students from public schools are less intelligent than any others. They seem poor because lack of the well trained teachers and well equipped study hall. During our visit we were in a public school that has ten numbers of computers. We asked some questions to one of the teacher who was handling the computer lessons. He let us to know that the theory knowledge is given three hours a week and practical knowledge is just one hour a week. When we asked why is that, he informed that the courses are not authorized and are not usable in the daily life. The no. of computers is not enough for the students. In the process of survey we were to a private school. We had an appointment with the principal and were general conversations between him. We asked him some general questions as follow: Why you started a private school of your own? The aim of establishing private school is to give the quality education to the students and as we know the private schools are based on English medium education which is the international language also. Does it mean that the public schools are not in their work? No, we cannot say that the public schools are not in work. They are serving the poor students with free education but the problem is the management system and the corrupted teachers. Why you are not giving the scholarships to the poor students? The private schools are opened with limited source and small benefits so the scholarship schemes are not in actions. Is there problem in public schools students or the teachers? I think whole the management systems of public schools are in problem. The teachers are not qualified; they are not regularly updated with the course to be taught. There are some problems within students also those are they don t complain about the problems and are not well concerned to their study. 12

13 At last would you like to say something about the education system of Nepal?The education system of Nepal is not satisfactory. The government needs to bring some good laws in action. The public schools need to be wemanaged with no corruption. They should give the first priority to the English language system to be familiar with modern world. Now we can conclude that many students of public schools are intelligent and qualified and they can achieve progress if a right chance is given at right time. So our team is trying to give a right platform to those students who really need it. Tips and Tricks We are supported by different local social workers and administrations with their ideas. The public schools form the village are ready to collaborate with us. Team is working hard for the collaboration with many other organizations who can certify our teaching methods and trainings. The main aim is to give the students a good training with verified certificate.although the plans and the tips are very beneficial for the poor students the center cannot have the establishment due to lack of budget. We want some financial help from the donors. Currently Hatemalo Neitherlands-Nepal is supporting us but we want some more help from you to have this plan in action. The tricks for running the center are mentioned below: Hatamalo and other donors will help for the establishment. The income from the cyber and the net amount of small money collected from students will be used for running institute and salary of co-workers. The institute will have good coordination with local administration and public schools. The certificate given from the institute will be the valid one. The center will be based in social work rather than benefit. The center aims to establish within October Reaction to the question araised after sending Proposal to open a new Computer Centre and Tuition Institute in Ugrachandi Nala Nepal sent by Mr. Joop Jurgens via . 8 th of July 2013 Dear Mr. Joop Jurgens I am glad that you understand our proposal correctly and feeling very nice that you have such serious queries. It was not so hard to reply your queries because our team had the clear visions already but some of them made us think. Our computer center aspect the help for establishment period and we have plans for the running period. I conform you that we will make it updated depending upon the demand of students. Many new trainings will be added during the running period depending upon the necessary. I have given the responce for your queries below. Please check it out and don t hesitate to send more queries if you find it not exact what you want. The queries you sent and their response are as follows: 1. Is the project mend for a limited period? No it is for a longer period. We will have no problem to run it after establishment. 2. How many students do you estimate for each of the trainings? We estimate about 40 students for tuition every month and 100 students a year for computer. 3. How will the lag of knowledge of American/English language be catched up? The English language will be international English provided via coaching by the well experienced teachers. 4. How long will their complete training take? There are two types of computer trainings one is course wise training which can take several months depending upon how much the students 13

14 demand and another one is short time trainings for about 3 months. Such trainings can be graphic designing, web page designing, hardware and software maintenance and etc al. 5. Will there be a sufficient number of followers over several training periods? Yes it is sure that there is no any other institute in the village who can meet the students demand is the cheapest price. We wish to serve not the benefit. 6. Do you expect interim resignations? Our team has a good synchronization and understanding so there is less possibility of it. In case if we have such problems it is not hard to fix cause you know when there is will there is way! 7. What will be the level of Knowing How after completing the full training? After completion of the training an annual test of students will be taken which will include all the points that should be learned in the training period. The performance in this test exam will grade the student and the certificate will be provided. 8. What connection to a paid employment will there be? The paid employee will be the teachers to train and considered as our consoler. We will try our best to keep a strong bond with them. And with regard to your budget planning: 9. Will a salary of 7,000 Nrs. monthly guarantee the availability of qualified teachers over a longer period? Yes because that is a margin for a tuition teacher in our locality. And for your information we cannot grade teachers with the money we pay it is also possible that we pay more because for his big reputation so it doesn t matter how much salary we pay. We do have many friends who are really talented in the subjects we want to train, they can help us for working in cheap salary. 10. What exactly are the incomes from Cyber? The cyber will provide the facility of internet, VOIP, skype, internet calls. We cant be sure that how much people will visit us every day but depending upon the demand we can be quite sure that it will cover our expanses every month. If the cyber will be in profit more than we assume the savings will be provided as scholarship to the poor students in public schools. 11. How realistic it is it to expect a fee of, all together 35,000 NRs monthly from the students? From tuition 40 students * 400 NRs. tuition fee = 16,000 NRs. And remaining is from average of computer students yearly. 12. From where will these Extras come? The computer center can get more works as printings, typings, making photocopy, lamination, the internet call charge and later we plan to deal with website deigning these are the sources of extra income. 14

Vierentwintig kinderen in het nauw Achtergrond Het was ergens in april 2013 dat Rajin, Sushant en Wiel een bezoek brachten aan een huis voor vierentwintig kinderen met een ernstige verstandelijke beperking in Palanchok,Dhulikhel Kavre district. Dhulikhel ligt twee dagreizen van de hoofdstad Kathmandu. Vanaf de weg was het een kwartiertje lopen naar het huis. De ligging was grandioos, de huisvesting, ook naar Nepalese normen, bar en boos. Een toilet en een douche voor deze vierentwintig kinderen, een primitieve keuken waar ook gegeten werd, terwijl de rook de kinderen naar buiten deed vluchten. De slaapzaal was te klein. Overdag gaan de kinderen naar een leegstand klaslokaal een kwartier lopen: kaarsen maken en enveloppen plakken. Op verschillende plekken in Nepal wordt op particulier initiatief kinderen met een dergelijke beperking opgevangen. Van de overheid is geen heil te verwachten. Deze kinderen zijn afkomstig uit een paar dorpen rond het centrumdorp Nala, ongeveer 30 kilometer van Kathmandu. De meeste kinderen die in het huis verblijven kunnen niet in de dorpen blijven wonen, (agressief, naakt rondlopen enzovoort).de begeleiding is weliswaar minimaal maar van een grote toewijding, zoals we konden zien. Tien minuten lopen van het kinderhuis ligt een groot stuk land, geschonken door een vermogende Australiër. Op deze grond moet de nieuwbouw komen. Controle Jaarlijks bezoek, controle op rekeningen, foto rapportage, eigen waarneming van Nepalese medewerkers van stichting Hatemalo Duurzaamheid Nepal kent stichtingen die zich het lot van kinderen met een verstandelijke beperking aantrekken. Deze kinderen hebben het zeer moeilijk in de dorpen waar ze wonen. Ze komen vaak tot agressief en buitensporig gedrag. De kwaliteit van leven is in het geding. Er zal een klimaat geschapen moeten worden dat de overheid in ziet zorg te dragen voor deze kinderen. Verrassend is dat de kinderen in het hierboven vermelde huis tot aardige resultaten komen, wanneer ze daartoe gestimuleerd worden in hun toch zeer schamel ingerichte werkplaats. It lies 70 KM far from the capital Kathmandu. The organization was established in 2001 A.D. Being an educated part of country it is our duty to create the equality between all the peoples in our society. There are many peoples who are mentally disable. The society thinks them as the third class man. The rights of these mentally disable people are not in act. So our organization help specially to the children who have this problem. 16

17 The picture above includes some of our students and teachers. The old house in background is the hostel for these students. The hostel is too old and is not sufficient for all to manage. So hereby we have decided to build a new hostel house for these students in our own land presented by an Australian citizen. The map architect is designed for the new building.
