1 Fuji Oil Europe celebrates 25 th anniversary -Investment in a new warehouse and packaging line for the Belgian plant- 25 years ago, in 1992, Fuji Oil and Vandemoortele started a joint-venture as Vamo-Fuji Specialities to produce specialty fats for chocolates, confectionery and more to the European and Russian markets. This marriage between top class know how and a European production base resulted in the launch of a whole range of new products on the European market. Later the scope of the company widened as it was renamed Vamo Fuji. New segments of the food market where now covered, like babyfood and the dairy sector. During this period as joint-venture, the company made important investments and was growing quite fast in turnover and employment. In 2001 Vandemoortele decided to sell its 50% shares to Fuji Oil and the company changed its name to Fuji Oil Europe. From then on the company got a very strong focus on innovation and sustainable production. Focus on innovation meant that the company invested in an own R&D center, where no less than 10% of our personnel is currently employed. In 2001 Fuji Oil Europe filed its first patent application for a confectionery fat with low content of trans fatty acids. Today our company is owner of more than 20 patents, the large majority about healthy fats. With our major innovation Redusat, we realized a breakthrough in saturated fat reduction and won 2 awards. Sustainability became a strong focus in 2004, when Fuji Oil Europe became one of the first members of RSPO, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. Our company is also member of GSA Sustainability Partners. GSA is the Global Shea Alliance, supporting the development of the shea business in West- Africa. Also in our factory important efforts were made towards a more sustainable production, with major investments in energy recuperation, resulting in a 30% decrease in consumption since The next big milestone was our investment in 2006 in a new activity: Flanders Fillings and Compounds. Although new in this sector, we were strongly convinced that we could offer unique products in this area with high added value, based on our strong oils and fats knowledge. Today Flanders Fillings and Compounds is a well known supplier of specialty chocolates, fillings and compounds with unique functional and nutritional properties. In 2013 our company again entered a completely new business, being the fractionation of shea butter, with the acquisition of IOF in Ghana. Since then, our company is active in the purchasing process of shea nuts from local communities mainly in Ghana and Burkina Faso. We process shea butter in a high-tech solvent fractionation plant, thus creating added value for local people. The most recent milestone is our investment in a new warehouse and packaging line for our Belgian plant. Since 2001, when this company became a 100% Fuji Oil subsidiary, a total amount of more than 65 Mio has been invested in this plant, to modernize and automate it, to make it safer and more energy-efficient. As a result, the growth in turnover and employment continued. How about the next 25 years? The development and production of delicious and healthy food products is the mission of our company, like it is for the whole Fuji Oil Group. It s a challenge as well as a privilege to be active in the European market, since Europe often is the trendsetter. We will continue developing new products, sustaining our partnerships and building our future.

2 Fuji Oil Europe viert 25 ste verjaardag -Investering in een nieuw magazijn en inpaklijn voor de site te Gent - 25 jaar geleden, in 1992, stapten Fuji Oil en Vandemoortele in een joint venture als Vamo-Fuji Specialities om gespecialiseerde vetten voor onder meer chocolade en snoepgoed te produceren voor de Europese en Russische markt. Dit huwelijk tussen top klasse knowhow en een Europese productiebasis resulteerde in de lancering van een heel nieuw gamma aan producten op de Europese markt. Later verbreedde de visie van de firma, nu onder de naam Vamo Fuji. Nieuwe segmenten van de voedingsmarkt werden aangeboord, zoals de babyvoeding- en zuivelsector. Tijdens de periode als joint venture werden belangrijke investeringen gedaan en kende ons bedrijf een belangrijke groei in zowel omzet als werkgelegenheid. In 2001 besloot Vandemoortele om zijn 50% aandelen te verkopen aan Fuji Oil en de onderneming kreeg de naam Fuji Oil Europe. Sindsdien is er een sterke focus op innovatie en duurzame productie. Focus op innovatie uitte zich in de investering in een eigen R&D afdeling, waar momenteel niet minder dan 10% van onze werknemers tewerkgesteld zijn. In 2001 diende Fuji Oil Europe zijn eerste patentaanvraag in voor een speciaal vet met een laag gehalte aan transvetzuren. Op vandaag zijn we eigenaar van meer dan 20 patenten, waarvan de meerderheid voor gezonde vetten. Met onze innovatie Redusat realiseerden we ook een belangrijke doorbraak op vlak van verzadigd vet en wonnen we twee trofeeën. Duurzaamheid werd een sterk focuspunt in 2004, wanneer Fuji Oil Europe een van de eerste leden werd van RSPO, de Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. Onze firma is ook een GSA duurzaamheidspartner. De GSA of Global Shea Alliance ondersteunt de ontwikkeling van de shea-industrie in West-Afrika. Ook in onze fabriek werden er belangrijke inspanningen geleverd om de productie duurzamer te maken. Zo werden er op vlak van energierecuperatie grote investeringen gedaan, resulterend in een daling in verbruik van 30% in De volgende mijlpaal was onze investering in een nieuwe activiteit in 2006: Flanders Fillings and Compounds. Hoewel deze sector voor ons compleet nieuw was, waren we door onze uitgebreide kennis van olie en vetten overtuigd dat we unieke producten met hoge toegevoegde waarde konden bieden. Vandaag is Flanders Fillings and Compounds een bekende leverancier van gespecialiseerde chocolade, vullingen en samenstellingen met unieke functionele en nutritionele kenmerken. In 2013 waagden we ons met de overname van IOF in Ghana alweer op nieuw terrein, namelijk de fractionering van shea boter. Sindsdien is onze onderneming actief in de aankoop van shea noten, afkomstig van lokale gemeenschappen in voornamelijk Ghana en Burkina Faso. We verwerken de shea boter in een hoogtechnologische fractioneringsinstallatie en creëren zo ook meerwaarde voor de lokale bevolking. De meest recente ontwikkeling is onze investering in een nieuw magazijn en inpaklijn voor onze Belgische business unit. Sinds 2001, het jaar waarin onze firma volledig onder Fuji Oil kwam, werd er in totaal voor ruim 65 miljoen euro geïnvesteerd om te moderniseren en automatiseren, om onze plant veiliger en energie-efficiënter te maken. Als gevolg daarvan bleven de omzet en werkgelegenheid verder groeien. Wat brengen de volgende 25 jaar? De ontwikkeling en productie van lekkere en gezonde voeding is de missie van onze firma alsook van de ganse Fuji Oil Group. Het is zowel een uitdaging als een privilege om actief te zijn op de Europese markt aangezien Europe vaak de trend zet. We gaan verder met de ontwikkeling van nieuwe producten, we onderhouden onze partnerships en bouwen aan onze toekomst.
