De student heeft geen kennis van Songahm Taekwondo en begint met een schone lei. Puurheid wordt vaak weergegeven door de kleur wit. Poomsae Songahm Il-Jahng Bewegingen: 18 Segmenten: Kihaps: 7 en 16 Oranje Band De zon komt op. Net als bij het ochtendgloren wordt alleen de pracht van de zonsopkomst gezien en niet zijn kracht. De beginnende student ziet de pracht van de kunst van Songahm Taekwondo maar heeft diens kracht nog niet ervaren. Oranje is een van de vele kleuren van de zonsopkomst Poomsae Songahm Ee-Jahng Bewegingen: 23 Segmenten: Kihaps: 10 en 21 Gele Band Het zaadje begint het zonlicht te zien. 2 Camouflage (Camo) Band Het jonge boompje is verscholen onder de grotere bomen en moet nu zijn weg naar boven vechten. De student begint zijn/haar plaats in de grootste martial art ter wereld te begrijpen. De student moet nu gaan sparren om te promoveren. Camouflage wordt gebruikt om zich in het bos tussen de bomen te verstoppen. Poomsae Songahm Sah-Jahng Bewegingen: 31 Segmenten: Kihaps: 7 en 24 Groene Band De spar begint zicht te ontwikkelen en groeit in kracht. De techniek van de student begint kracht te ontwikkelen. De verschillende onderdelen van de basis technieken beginnen in eenheid te werken. Naarmate de spar zich ontwikkelt, groeien er groene naalden aan. 3 Paarse Band Aankomst bij de berg. De boom is nu in het midden van zijn groeifase en nu wordt het pad steiler. De student is overgestapt naar een hoger niveau van Songahm Taekwondo. De technieken, poom-sae en niveau van sparren worden moeilijker, wat een berg creëert die overwonnen moet worden. Bergen worden van oudsher vaak weergegeven met de kleur paars. Poomsae In Wha Ill-Jahng (an unbroken Glory) Bewegingen: 44 Segmenten: Kihaps: Blauwe Band De boom reikt naar de lucht, naar nieuwe hoogten. Voorbij het middelpunt van de groeicyclus richt de student zijn/haar energy naar boven, richting Zwarte Band De lucht wordt ervaren als blauw Poomsae In Wha Ee-Jahng Bewegingen: 42 Segmenten: Kihaps: Bruine Band De boom is stevig geworteld in de aarde. 4 Rode Band De zon gaat onder, de eerste groeifase is voltooid. De eerste dag (de periode van witte tot rode band) komt ten einde. De fysieke vaardigheden zijn ontwikkeld maar missen controle. Nu moeten fysieke en mentale discipline worden bereikt. Variaties van rood komen terug in de zonsondergang. Poomsae Choong Jung Ee-Jahng Bewegingen: 46 Segmenten: Kihaps: Rood Zwarte Band Het ochtendgloren van een nieuwe dag. De zon verbreekt de duisternis. De vorige dag is ten einde, een nieuw ochtendgloren dient zich aan. De student begint aan een nieuwe fase van training: die van de Zwarte Band, Het rood symboliseert de zon (bij een zonsopkomst) die de nacht verdrijft. Zwarte Band De boom is volwassen en heeft de duisternis overwonnen...hij moet nu zaaien voor de toekomst. De kleur zwart komt tot stand als alle kleuren van het lichtspectrum zijn geabsorbeerd in een object. Dat "object" heeft de kleuren nu onder controle en houdt ze vast. Als één van de kleuren zou "ontsnappen" zou het object niet langer zwart zijn maar de ontsnapte kleur. De student beheerst de negen graden van Taekwondo. Hij/zij heeft alle kennis van de gekleurde banden "geabsorbeerd" en is dat niveau van training ontgroeid. De kleuren van het spectrum zijn samengebonden en worden niet langer gereflecteerd, wat resulteert in de afwezigheid van kleur, wat wij als zwart ervaren.
