DEVELOPMENT Internationalisering betekent investeren in professionele ontwikkeling van docenten: Meer aandacht zijn voor: internationale kennis/ervaring van docenten > internationalisering van het curriculum taalvaardigheid (m.n. Engels) > international classroom, maar ook opereren in internationale netwerken en internationaal onderzoek interculturele vaardigheden > international classroom, maar ook opereren in internationale netwerken interculturele didactiek kennis van ontwikkelingen in het internationale HO

4 INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCES MATRIX International Competences Matrix: een HRM instrument ontwikkeld in antwoord op een vraag vanuit het management (opleidingen) samenwerking van internationalisering en P&O uitgangspunt: de docent bestaat niet competenties zijn gedefinieerd in relatie tot verschillende rollen beschrijft een breed scala aan competenties: niet alleen talige competenties

6 INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCES MATRIX Functie van de matrix Leidinggevenden en docenten erop attenderen dat het werken in een internationale werkomgeving zou kunnen betekenen dat training op zwakke punten noodzakelijk is; Leidinggevenden en docenten tot afspraken laten komen over de ontwikkeling van competenties in internationaal perspectief; Wederzijdse verantwoordelijkheid leidinggevende faciliteert > beschikbaarheid scholing docent committeert zich Basis voor de ontwikkeling van scholing, zoals een SKO traject dat leidt tot een Advanced Qualification for Internationalisation (AQI)

(AQI) Key characteristics: een nieuwe, innovatieve professional development track voor (onderwijzend) personeel in de internationale HO omgeving ontwikkeld door Marion Troia en Els van der Werf veel personeelsleden hebben een scala aan basic skills > AQI biedt de mogelijkheid om zich te specialiseren en/of competenties te verbreden in het kader van SKO voortbouwend op de ICM: de competenties die zijn gedefinieerd in de ICM vormden de basis voor een set van 6 leeruitkomsten (learning outcomes)

8 Advanced Qualification for Int. (AQI) Key characteristics (2): geen cursus > een professional development track geschikt en relevant voor medewerkers in Nederlands- en Engelstalige programma s realiseren van de leeruitkomsten door het uitvoeren van een afgewogen combinatie van 6 opdrachten opdrachten liggen in het verlengde van huidige of toekomstige taken (action learning) geeft deelnemers de mogelijkheid om aan te tonen dat ze over de benodigde competenties beschikken om een trekkersrol te vervullen in het internationaliseringsproces binnen een opleiding

LO B - is capable of adapting (his/her) teaching to accommodate culturally diverse student audiences or adapt professional communication to diverse international groups LO C - is familiar with the international context and literature of his/her subject(s); - is capable of applying these in the curriculum. LO D - has a basic knowledge of international and cultural differences in teaching and learning conventions and traditions, including the procedures and standards for assessing student performance. LO E - is aware that the status of and requirements for the professions/jobs for which students are trained (qualifications needed, professional recognition, professional roles) may differ from country to country and can use these insights when internationalising the curriculum. 10 AQI IN DE PRAKTIJK geschatte tijdsinvestering: ca. 50 uur in-take interview met mentor(en) > gezamenlijk worden 6 opdrachten gekozen (keuze uit ca. 30) opdrachten sluiten aan bij behoeftes van de deelnemer deelnemers werken onafhankelijk aan de opdrachten geregeld feedback van mentor(en) mogelijk ook intervisie met andere deelnemers exit interview op basis van een portfolio van producten

11 AQI VOORBEELDEN Voorbeeld 1 Main focus: International/intercultural dimensions in conceptual teaching The aim of this assignment is to allow you to be able to integrate an international/intercultural dimension in a conceptual input of a course. Type: with students Workload: 6 hours in total: 3 hours to prepare mini-lectures; 25/30 minutes to deliver each mini-lecture = 50/60 minutes; 20 to 30 minutes each for feedback from students = +/- 60 minutes; 2 hours to write a comparison of outcomes

12 AQI VOORBEELDEN (2) Step 1: Develop a mini-lecture or presentation of a major theory or model in two versions, one with no attention to international or intercultural aspects (thus totally Dutch) and one with attention to international models or theories or illustrative examples. Step 2: Give the two mini lectures to two different classes. Class A with only Dutch conceptual/cognitive content and class B with international/ intercultural content. If possible make a video recording of the two sessions including the students feedback on the mini-lectures. In any case, collect the students feedback. Submit in assignment slot on BB: 1. The slides of your powerpoints; 2. A comparison of the feedback of the two classes, if possible using examples from the video recording. In addition, summarise this experiment from your own perspective. Was it useful? Why or why not? Would you use both mini-lectures again? Why or why not? Will you adapt other input presentations in future to include international / intercultural content? Why or why not? (An essay type document of 3 to 5 A4, with in-text citations to at least two well known intercultural experts such as Leask, Hofstede, Bennett, Deardoff, Hoffman, Trompenaars etc., plus literature related to the content of the mini-lectures.

13 AQI VOROBEELDEN (3) Voorveeld 2 Main focus: Benchmarking with international partners The aim of this assignment is to systematically benchmark your programme with similar programmes of international partners on (an) particular aspect(s). Type: individual and with colleagues Workload: 8 hours in total: 2 hours desk research; 3 hours for discussion; 2 hours for the report

14 AQI VOORBEELDEN (4) Step 1: Identify a degree programme offered by an international partner institution which is comparable to your own degree programme and determine, preferably in consultation with the partner, which aspect of the programme you want to focus on for the benchmark. Step 2: Make a table in which you compare the situation in both programmes, on the basis of information from websites and study guides. Step 3: Organise a meeting with your partner, in which you discuss your findings and try to reach consensus on: is one programme better than the other in this particular aspect?; why is it better?; by how much? This could be done by Skype, or during a person-toperson meeting with your international colleagues. Step 4: Write an advisory report for your colleagues and school management on your findings and make recommendations on how you could use your new insights to improve your programme and/or school. Submit in assignment slot on BB: 1. The table in which you present your findings of the initial comparison (max 1 A4). 2. A report of the benchmarking session with your partner (max 2 A4). 3. The report to your colleagues and management with the advice on how to use the results of the benchmark.
