2 WHAT IS A PRESCHOOL? The preschool is a place where toddlers are learning by playing and where parents can meet. At preschool toddlers from 2,5 to 4 years old are playfully obtaining the skills that they need to make a good start at primary school. The preschool is often situated in the same building as the primary school. We cooperate with the primary school and use the same methods. In this way your child will have a greater chance to complete the school successfully. When you opt for a preschool, you are actually also opting for a primary school. When your child has a VVE-indication, he or she goes to preschool for four mornings or afternoons per week. Without a VVE-indication your child will go two mornings or afternoons. At most 16 toddlers are coming to play per group under the supervision of two teachers (educational workers). WHY GO TO PRESCHOOL? By going to preschool your toddler is getting used to the daily regularity of going to school. At preschool your toddler will get pleasure in playing and learning together. The development of your toddler is well monitored. It may be that your toddler needs more attention. We always discuss this with you. The preschool pays a lot of attention to learning and understanding the Dutch language. This is especially good for toddlers whose native language is not Dutch. In this way we are preparing your child very well for primary school.

3 The teachers are always open to have a chat on the development of my child. WHAT DO WE DO AT PRESCHOOL? Young children learn by playing. The preschool is totally equipped for this. There are toys and the teachers do fun things with the children. They read to them, sing songs and play games. By playing your child is learning the Dutch language, to count, to colour but also to deal with rules. Your child is learning to work together by playing with other children. The activities are not only taking place inside, but also regularly outside. It is very important to play outside for toddlers. In this way they are getting enough fresh air and exercise and there is a lot to learn and discover outside as well. Each day we are working according to a fixed schedule of programmes that stimulate your child s development. Children and parents are brought into contact with each other. I think that it is great that it s for free! Lots of love for children in this neighbourhood in the form of education. They take children to a higher level.

4 PARENTS ARE PART OF THE PRESCHOOL When your child goes to preschool, you as a parent are joining in as well. Your toddler not only develops him-/herself at preschool, but also at home. You can occasionally join the group of your child. Then you can see what your child is working on and you will be able to play the games they play at school at home as well. We will regularly discuss with you how your child is doing at school. There are parent contact workers working at the pre- and primary school who can tell you which activities there are for parents at the school and in the neighbourhood. There are meetings and courses for parents in the parents room. Here you can exchange experiences with other parents and get advice about raising your child. I learned from the theme meetings that you can do something with language in many ways. It is cosy and fun with the other parents.
